Congrats, but you had lotus first or second turn both games and was playing a combo deck vs. sligh. You have to win in those situations...

Playing Revenge of '97 against kl0wn: Land, Ancestral. Sapphire, Jet, Time Walk. Untap, Land, Sol Ring Mind Twist for 4. I then Strip Mined and Vindicated away all of his permanents. I've done a bunch of wacky shit with that deck... Soooo good

Just to add to that: Caleb was playing 7/10 and kept a slow hand because it had a fistful of land.

He also picked up a game loss in that round because his deck had two ancestrals in it (an accident). It was fixed with the game loss enforced.

He: **smiles bigger**, draw, play Pyroblast on the battle Me: **smiles biggest**, Pitch Time Walk to Misdirection, you Pyroblast your pup... Eh? Maybe it's just that I have a hangover, but that pup can't be dead as a result.

It's your hangover, the purpose was to prevent the Battle from being destroyed, not to eliminate the pup. This is the prime example of why REB > Pyroblast.

I don't have specifics, but I 2-0ed Loren at a Hadley tournament with my n00b beatar (an affinity deck made of only commons and uncommons I picked up off my floor). Then Kowal gave me a match loss because I was supposed to be playing Slaver. Bastard. So what if I decide to change decks in round 4?

It's your hangover, the purpose was to prevent the Battle from being destroyed, not to eliminate the pup. Well, I understood THAT, but then it isn't in any way superior to plain ol' countering the Pyroblast (nor a very interesting play at that). This is the prime example of why REB > Pyroblast ....except in various Tendrils-type decks where you can always up the spell count with a Blast whereas REB needs to have a legal target.

The main reason is that you can't get Beta Pyroblasts.
Anyway I remember getting to the semi-final of a local Type II tournament using an Orcish Artillery/Cannoneer deck just for fun.
I used to own that area with my RGb SEDGE TROLL deck!! BoP, Kird Ape, Erg Raider, Sedge Troll, lotsa bolts, Mind Twist and Regrowth. Looking back it is hard to explain BoP but they used to keep The Abyss busy and drew early creature kill. I think at that time anyone running lots of Strips and early damage had a chance against anything. Moats sucked but I always seemed to avoid those players. I think I has a Dragon Whelp and a Xira Arian in the SB at one stage.
Most decks were really really bad back then.

You can't counter a Pyroblast targeting a permanent with Misdirection. Pyroblast is modal, and once the mode is set, Misdirection can only Misdirect it to a legal target appropriate to that mode. -- Chris

That's what I was saying in the first place, but Methuselahn said I was wrong. What I meant in my second post was that (regardless of the fact if the play was legal or not), the play BWM mentioned is about as interesting as simply FoW'ing the blast.

Yes, but your original post questioned whether the pup would be dead as a result, not if the play was interesting or boring. And to further nitpick, I don't think I said you were wrong. I was just pointing out intention. ....except in various Tendrils-type decks where you can always up the spell count with a Blast whereas REB needs to have a legal target. Ok, show me a tendrils deck with Jackal Pup. I was assuming this logic was a given for this particular archetype.

There is nothing wrong with Misdirecting a Pyroblast from one permanent to another.

OK, but to nitpick even further: to make your original point (the one which I commented on) you quoted my 'second' post, in which I DID make a normative statement about the play This topic is getting stupid. I think I might clean up some posts. Not to hide my own stupidity which is here for everyone to see (for I now think Jebus is actually right); but to get back on topic.
