Ok, lately I've been playing the awesomeness that is broodstar runner. Although I don't have all the pieces of power to use in it, I HAVE been able to solidify the mana base quite well in the meantime. I've also made some cosmetic changes to the deck that I will explain in some other thread (perhaps a different thread or something since I don't want to "ressurect" the months old BSR thread). I've been playing it for almost a month now and am quite happy with most of the deck. However, I'm running a full complement of strip effects (1 strip, 4 waste) and have been noticing that BSR can't really handle playing the mana denial game. Against a deck like fish, where they are completely mana denial, I can't even hope to try and go for a slight bit of mana denial until I'm winning, and at that point mana denial is useless.  I also noticed that even against decks that don't have a major committment to mana denial (FCG, and EBA) still seem like matchups where mana denial is useless. So my question is, how useful are wastelands in BSR? I usually need the mana in the early game to get developed, and in the late game it seems like I either win or I lose, mana denial doesn't matter. Mid-game is where I see mana denial being situational at best.
I apologize if this seems like I'm being ignorant, and if I'm playing the deck incorrectly, please let me know.

Thanks,
Aaron

EDIT: In order to try and keep this post worthwhile, I'm adding in links to BSR deck discussions so that people can see the strip counts in action.

I wouldn't go down to less than 2.  4 does seem a bit large when your wanting to win asap.  Against decks like 4c Control, tog, and gat, where their mana is so important, then wasting their red source, green source, or even black source, is that important to swing the game in your way, maybe stopping a game breaking play like yawgmoth's will.

I think that 5 strips are necessary. While you are beating down, your goal is to disrupt the opponent with Wire and Strip. Against many control decks, the disruption is first priority, and beats second. If you can distroy their manabase, than the longlasting effect will be much more than "play jug, swing".

Wasteland and Strip Mine boost the effectiveness of Tangle Wire.  Without them control players are often able to weedle their way out from under the wire too early allowing them enough time to gain control of the match.  Unfortunately, against most aggro decks the strips are often dead, but this is OK.  Most aggro decks lack instant speed spells such as brainstorm which means their turns are almost as unproductive as they can get.
