For reference, here's the article just as proof: http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/expandevent.php?Article=7647Since I am not a full member I obviously can't post in defense of JP meyer in the T1 forum so here goes... First, Suicide Black is sub-optimal and yes if you splashed green for berserk, blue for draw and tog, red for shamans and some hate and shaved off black (I believe Toad stated that in the Sui-Black Forums), you have JPs deck with them big nice Togs. But hell even if that deck is sub-optimal it still has possibilities to win games, hell, it might even sweet a Tog deck. Second, JP and his Tog didn't quite have the greatest hands and maybe a few playing errors (couldn't name any, except MAYBE that Hymn that was in the report). But his opponent DID make play errors with the wretch and the AKs in JPs grave. So was it all luck? Probably not completely, but I'm giving JP the benefit of the doubt that since I consider him among the top 25 or 30 players on the site (don't know any of them in real life, but the way they all talk about magic, just seems like that) that he was ' Homosexual slur deleted' for lack of a better word. How often does Tog lose to Sui? seriously... But it was kinda funny to see the Sui come out on top, must have had some secret tech in that deck -? EDIT: Better word(s) may be Racist slur deleted... ' Antisemetic slur deleted'... ' Profanity deleted ' take your pick - Sorry it had to happen JP, just wish I woulda been playing the Sui Offensive language removed--consider this a verbal warning, and don't do it again. -Jacob

Its not really the fact that he failed to beat sui, and ended up being beaten by sui. Its the more that of all the TMD people that went there, he lost to sui.
Since he hasn't been quite nice to the sui players in the past. And that's and understatement.

What's worse having one person lose on one given day, or having a deck that loses regularly?
The other thing is that JP probably doesn't target people. He targets decks. And that is a fair criticism. If you take it personally I think you have larger problems in life than choosing deck to play in Magic.

Why are we [card]Chastise[/card]ing JP? The answer is clearly that most of the online community is jealous of his high poweredness. They just happened to take advantage of his latest attack to both remove him and to take all that wonderful power to prolong their own lives. For shame. . .

Cause its funny. The biggest and loudest person to denounce Suicide, loses to it twice and drops from a high profile tournament. Like ultimate Karmic Retribution. It has nothing to do with how good or bad JP or Sui is. Just the circumstances are hilarious.

What's worse having one person lose on one given day, or having a deck that loses regularly? Apparently JP is the perfect person to ask this, considering all. Isn't it true that we only roast the ones we love??

Antisemetic slur deleted' ?ISuck@MTG?, you're officially on my shitlist. Also, we are chastising JP simply because he was one of the main supporters of the Sui Black forum, and one of the most outspoken people regarding Sui's badness. He even wrote an article about it. I'm not saying I havn't partaken in the savage sui hate, but when you do that and then lose to it, you can't expect people NOT to make fun of you.

He dropped after losing to the Fringe's Burninator.
Burninator fears no togs, titans, or angels.
Unfortunately it cowers in fear of first turn trinisphere.

i doubt the hymn response was a mistake without knowing the exact cards in his hand, i can't comment for sure, but if you only have 1 key blue card and a force, i'd rather take my chances that the hymn will knock out something that doesn't matter
i'm wondering why jp firestormed for 3 instead of 2 that intuition might have turned up something useful, say, 3 togs? that'll have finished the negator or held it off long enough to finish the game just a thought

Simple: because everyone loves seeing those on high brought low. It's one of the fundamental things that comedy is based upon. Wrong whenever a good player loses to something hilarious (as tends to happen in this game) they get the shit talked out of them. Phelon didn't live down losing to hatred for 6+ months. It's funny you got beat by SUI. You've also said a lot of things with questionable credibility, so I see what some are saying about this putting some light on that. I'd disagree, sui is terrible, you were right to say so. Criticizing sui (something many have done) was NOT one of the questionable things you've done. The spin you came up with works for trying to reinflate your ego JP, but it still doesn't stop negator from trampling in for the win.

He even wrote an article about it. I'm not saying I havn't partaken in the savage sui hate, but when you do that and then lose to it, you can't expect people NOT to make fun of you. Yea, even the Yankees sometimes lose a couple games to the Devil Rays, Blue Jays, etc. (pretty much everyone but the Orioles ), but that doesn't mean those other teams are competitive over the course of the season. That said, when you subtitle the afore mentioned article More Excuses to Make Fun of Suicide Black, people are going to find humor in your defeat.

In all Honesty when I heard that JP lost to sui in the feature I laughed really hard and then was pretty psyched I wouldn't have to play him. I'm sure we will all see JP sitting at the top tables at major tournaments in the future but for now it's good to get our laughs in. I would expect nothing less from any group of my friends if the same happened to me.
Serious Props to JP for taking it so well though.

And then I won a beta mox that day, and thus I got to make fun of the fun-makers :p

Whatever... I think it was funny to here in all it's irony, but its not like everyone else never loses to bad decks. Some playful ribbing is ok, but the fact of the matter is JP knows his shit and I'm sure rarities like this will be forgotten.

I agree with Zherbus. Getting swept by Sui doesn't make one a bad player. It happens to everybody. I too got swept by Sui that day with 4cc...I don't know how it happened, but it did.
Just so you know, the kid who swept JP with Sui was on my team, and Round 1 he swept Food Chain with Sui...how does one manage that?

Sure thing, here's the list Justin ran:
4 shade 4 hippie 4 negators
4 duress 4 hymn 4 nights wisper 4 null rod 3 smother
1 yawg will 1 demonic tutor 1 necro
4 ritual 5 strips 1 lotus 1 jet 15 swamps
SB: 4 withered wretch 4 engineered plague 2 chainer's edict 1 diabolic edict 4 kegs
This did pretty good for him that day, but after going 3-0 after his first 3 rounds he just stopped wanting to play and lost some rounds and ended with a record of 5-3.

Well, at LEAST it's not a completely horrible list. It's 'fully' powered and runs Necro as an anti-control element. It doesn't run any Sinkholes and it has some maindeck answers for Tog. It's not a horrible shame to lose to this. Given some avberage to bad draws and a competent player on the other side of the board, this could provide some problems.
If I were to fall down a flight of stairs, crack my skull and decide to play Sui, I would probably play a list similar to this.

Goddamnit, I'm not eight!!!
You Hadley people should know me. kl0wn and myself have been driving out there a lot lately to try and take down your damned power tourneys. Unfortunatly, my car hates Hadley and decides to break down everytime up there which causes me to play even crappier then normal.
<3 Guerrilla Tactics. And to clarify what happened, JP twisted my hand, so in response I PoP. He Drains it, I PoP again, and he scoops. Even though it wasn't lethal. So I showed him the single tactics in my hand which would of been lethal.
