Alright boys, it's on-
Saturday, August 14th, at Gems, in La Mirada, we're gonna be holding the next major LA type1 tourney. Just like all the previous, it's going to be a 5 proxy, Mox Jet tourney, with a NM Signed unl Mox Jet for first prize, and additional prizes down to 8th place depending on attendance (usually somewhere in the range of $200 cash distributed).
It's the same Jet as last time, cause, despite my best efforts, I couldn't find anybody else who was good enough to win it- I ended up having to beat the crap outta everybody and take it myself. C'est la vie.
The info-
$15 entry fee, with $14 going back to the prize pool, standard T1 rules with 5 proxies, 1pm start time, at Gems, 11525 La Mirada Bvld, La Mirada, CA.
The phone number for Gems is (562) 946-5894.
I hope to see you all there, and of course, beat the crap outta you in a good ol' game of Magic.

With all the talk about West Coast T1 in the other threads, I'm hoping nobody forgot that this bad boy is coming up a week from Saturday.
Nose count- Who's coming?

Dave Hernandez and Tony Soto.
Also, I've been in contact with UnstableCornbread and there is a chance some of the C&J's players will make it down.
Dave.

out of 23 players and 5 rounds, top 8 were:
Pat Pearce (TracerBullet) - 4cc Brent Peterson (UnstableCornbread) - B2B Tog Derek - Crucible-TurboLand Ken Johnson (KiL0) - TriniStax Christiaan Royer (Zhalfirin) - Crucible Stax Sugrim - Sugrim Sligh Joe - TnT David Hernandez (DavidHernandez) - Crucible Stax
Derek > David Hernandez Pat > Ken Brent > Sugrim Joe > Christiaan
Top 4:
Pat > Derek Brent > Joe
Finals:
Pat and Brent split the prize.
Prizes were:
1st: Signed Unlimited Mox Jet 2nd: $43 3rd: $30 4th: $20
it was a lot of fun.
to anyone in top 8: Please correct me on the items I wasn't sure of. Also check for name-spelling errors. Sorry I don't know some of the last names. Also, to KiL0, I'm not sure if you were running Crucible Stax or a variant.
Note that 4 of the top 8, 2 of the top 4, and one of the finalists were C&J's crew. Not a bad showing...
Dave.
Edited: Corrected KiL0's deck type and updated the top-4 matches. Thanks to Zhalfirin for the updated info.

Notes: 1) In the quarters - Pat beat Ken Joe beat Christiaan 2) Ken was running TriniStax/CrucibleStax 3) A DCI banned player (Derek) made Top 4 with Turboland! Edit: IMO, TriniStax = CrucibleStax. I think every good stax deck should run at least 2 Crucible main.

A few more quick notes-
San Diego didn't come. Bastards.
Overall, it was a great tournement. 23 people, fewer than previous tournies, but it's summer, and as previously noted, San Diego didn't come as usual. Summer in Southern California just has so many alluring prospects...
The cream does rise to the top. I would like to point out that once again, I left with a Mox that I'm trying so damned hard to get rid of...
I should give props to Ken though, cause if he had drawn ANYTHING over like a 15 turn timespan, he would have won our first game and consequently our match. He had me in a near total Crucible lock, and just didn't manage to find anything good for seroiusly 15 turns. I managed to beat down with Monkey and Soldier tokens for the win.
I really do seem to draw well with Keeeper. The deck just likes me.
[Aside]- I think it's purely assinine that people on this site are trying to remove the name Keeeper from the Type One lexicon. It's not exactly a descriptive name, but then again, neither are Boston, Patrick, or Magic, the Gathering. So long as a name conjures a clearly recognizable image to most people who have an interest, it should be kept, and Keeeper has to be the most recognizable T1 deck. What's worse, you don't give people the opportunity to decide if they should call it Keeeper, The Deck, 4c Control or whatever. I feel like I should be calling 4c Control Double-Plus good instead of great.
To put it simply, you're removing some of the flavor of the last flavorful format in competitive magic. I think that's bullshit.
[/aside]
Thanks to everybody who made it out, and I really do hope that everybody makes it up to the major tournement coming up at Worlds in San Fransisco. That's gonna be a beating.
Pat

Congratulations on a nice event. Glad to here the fellas did well. Looking forward to meeting you guys here in San Francisco. Jacob wrote: Yeah, they have great players there. [/aside] Actually, it's not being auto-replaced anymore. You can say Keeper as often as you like.

Pat's not talking about the auto-replace feature; he's talking about people calling Keeper the appropriately named 4 Color Control. The problem is, the name '4 Color Control' has no style. Sure, Keeper was partly called 'Keeper' just because it used Elemental Augury to control the gamestate, but that doesn't mean the name should necessarily change just because the kill condition or controlling elements changes (or because Morphling was way better than Elemental Augury, or because Exalted is at least as good as Morphling). As Brian Weissman said (I'm paraphrasing here, as I can't find the exact quote), 'any thing that is the best deck will continue to be known as 'The Deck,' or 'Keeper.'
