I sent in my first Featured column in June 2001.

Has it really been so long?

The column meter is now at 140, and this annual retreat into a written fortress of solitude has become very valuable. Though perhaps I find myself in the mood for something more mellow in 2004.

I still think it wouldn't cost Wizards much to give Type I more store-level support like maybe as an FHM alternative.

At this point, perhaps the most beautiful thing I can say about Type I's development is that it probably doesn't need Oscar Tan anymore.

This sounds like a retirement speech. Is rakso leaving us for good?

Anyway, I think this is one of his best articles yet. Though he may not have been the best writer at times, we should all be thankful to him for introducing us and many others to Type 1, causing it to go from a dying format to one that is growing faster than ever.

EDIT

By the way, I'm 16, does that mean you'll loan me 2 moxen?

EDIT: Deleted quote from previous Rasko bashing.

If you really take the time to read what Rasko actually wrote, you will gain a much better appreciation for what he has done.  For years, he has tried to open up the vintage metagame by inviting players to understand more subtle points that took him years to learn.  He also did this without starting the players off on suicide black, he taught them with the most complex and challenging deck of all time: 'The Deck.'

I will call out everyone who writes a 2 line quip ripping Rasko.  If you don't write articles, you have no idea how hard it is.  Rasko has been writing about T1 longer than many of you have been playing, and to rip him without some credential on your own writing skill is really weak.

To Rasko: I do think you have accomplished the goal you set out to achieve.  T1 is bigger now that ever before, and a good deal of the credit should go to you.  Nobody is perfect, but the effort you have given is much appreciated by most of the people in the community, even if a few loud-mouths on this forum don't see the big picture.

EDIT: Thanks Marton, didn't know the reference.  Most of my commentary still applies to other Rasko article postings, but does not apply to this one as much.

What could be more needed?

Type 1 needs its legends, its historians, those people who remember playing serra angel in "the Deck". I do hope that rakso is not retiring, but I understand that there are more important things in life than type 1.

FHM (for him magasine) is a soft porn magasine/man's magasine, in contrast to the (probable) typo FNM.

I dont care what anyone else says about Rasko, I personally am grateful for what he did.

He introduced me to type one, and in turn introduced me to the ManaDrain. With out him many of my friends and I would not be on these boards today.

Don't forget also that we would be without Dromar's Charm tech if it wasnt for Rakso. God bless you.

I've never talked to him, and I don't think I'm even halfway through his asshole high list of articles yet, but if he is retiring he will be missed. We all owe a lot to him, more than most of us can articulate into words.

How do you explain that games are an undeniable part of one's life, and as you grow older, are one of the things that hold open a door to a younger part of you that you can always come back to?

This is a wonderfull point beautifully said.

If this is a goodbye from rakso - it is a triumphant one, he has helped in so many ways to make the Type one world what it is.

If he is leaving, as it seems that he is, I will miss that familiar style and humor that always shone through everything he wrote. I never had any personal contact with Rakso at all, but to me there was always a palpable friendliness and effort in all the things he created, and I will miss that too.

@xrizzo -

WTF? Are you talking to me? Because it seems that, since you have quoted me in your post, that you have made a fool of yourself by assuming you understood what I wrote. Redirect your criticism not just to someone to whom it applies, but even better, to someone who's on the same subject.

Man, Beyond Dominia was so great right back when JP and Matt signed on....

Truth be told, we have been often imitated and never duplicated. Good times and good memories. I miss liking to play sometimes, but what I really miss is the community we had there. TMD is pretty good too, certainly, but anyone who's been around as long as we have knows the difference.

Kids today, eh?

Rakso is the whole reason I started playing T1, that and the format is cooler.

We should try to vote him into the invitational. that would be wicked cool
