Remember when you first noticed the baby fetus in the Living Wall picture?  Sweet!! (there is also a guy inside the Maze of Ith if you look close, not to mention Cyclopean Tomb which is one of the coolest pics ever, all three by Anson Maddocks)

Remember when people actually played Levitation, Lord of the Pit?
Remember when the tech was giant growth + scryb sprite (or maybe it was only my tech)?
Remember the first time counterspelled something you played?
Remember when counterspell was THE ONLY counterspell?
Remember THE burn deck (4x fireball, 4x mana flare 4x lightning bolt, ball lightning etc).
Remember using ALL basic lands?
Remember playing MONO COLORED DECKS?
Remember wondering why Lord of Atlantis didn't power itself up?
Remember when red/green weenie Keldon Warlord was good?  (Once again probably only my tech)

I would also like to say that this is probably my favorite post of all time.  For myself Magic is a game.  I like to play decks that win but I still remember the first game I ever won (with double giant growthed scryb sprites)  and I still like playing bad decks.  I gotta start going to the local $5 tourney with horrible_my_tech.dec and getting whipped by manadrain.dec.  I think that is the ultimate remember when....

Remember when you went to a tourney with a deck you built and got beat by someone else who built there own deck that was just better than yours?

Great post!

Remember when you thought that Dark Ritual produced BBB every turn since the card type was 'Mana Source'?

Nah, that was just you.

Remember trading a bunch of shitty looking non-blue producing revised dual lands for a mint Workshop? OH WAIT that was last week.

Hm, really? Perhaps it was because we just started playing then (during Mirage), but I remember reading similar questions in a rule thread or two.

The most common question I've seen at other, much much lesser Magic sites has been: "Does [X card that lets you add mana to your mana pool] mean I can search my deck for land and put them into play?"

I wonder how one do to missunderstand its quite simple text. Have you, as your role as a judge, encountered such a being?

Yes.  And also people who don't understand how non-basic lands work.

I blame the removal of text from basic lands.

I take it that the first part (lack of non-basic knowledge) is not happening during sanctioned games, but when you teach someone the basics of games?

Its a possibility, but what can the "Dark Ritual"-missunderstandings come from?

Most often, the misunderstanding either stems from the "mana source" card type printed on the cards, or a lack of knowledge between the difference of land and mana.

Now, Im all confused - As a newbie I fully understood what the cardtype "Land" and what the game effect of "mana" ment and can't ever imagine where the hickup could come from not distinguishing these two from each other. I blame bad magic-teachers Smile

Ok, case in point.

I noticed a player tap their Secluded Steppe, pick up their library, find a plains card, and put it into play.

Because, they thought that's what {W} was.  A plains.  Why?  Because there is a huge freaking {W} symbol in the textbox.

He had never even seen a Pre-Masques/Portal Basic land.  I showed him one of my Saga Swamps and he was amazed.

Oh  Sad

Well, anyway we both agree that the text on lands should come back so that newer players better understand what you're supposed to do with them. I can't remember the logic behind the simplified lands, but I remembered it as a very logic thing, Im going to do some research over @ wizards.com and see if I can find the piece.

Remember the Magic Comic Books (I still have the Fallen Empires ones)?
Remember when people actually used fallen empire cards? (PUMP KNIGHTS!)
Remember when you DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH LAND? (And cardshops used to bend you over the table to get more)
Remember not using sleaves for your cards?
Remember Magic being the ONLY CCG?
Remember telling someone you were going to "play Magic" and then having to explain what you were going to do? (Oh wait I STILL have to do that)
Remember when there wern't foils?
Remember when players were actually against foils?
Remember the old card face? (It seems like a long time ago now)
Remember when Illusions/Donate dominate extended forever?

Thats all I can think of for now.  Anyway lets get this back on track at somepoint.  Flamewars on PM please

Remember Weissman saying he wouldn't play Type 1 until they banned Mind Twist?

Remember the "reminder text" on the Revised Stasis causing fights about when you get your untap?

Remember when you could bring theme decks to a tournament and win?

Remember Chip Hogan?

Remember the 5-from-every-expansion rule?
