I’d like to congratulate GoblinBoy and Erdrick as the eventual winners of 3CB Tournament #38
Hope the delay didn’t cause people too many headaches
We have, for the first time, a winner of the mise-prize in a normal 3CB – congratulations Lhyrrus! As a result, his deck will be banned from future 3CB tournaments – no deck will be allowed to win more than 1 mise-prize.

GoblinBoy came up with a fantastic deck for this tournament, one of the new decks to beat from now on, I expect. I don’t think it’s bannable as vineyard and anything with either artifact or land destruction beat it easily. Other special-case scenario decks can beat it, too, or 3-3 with it (e.g. MoreFling’s deck).

We also have, as mentioned above, our first ever mise-prize winner with the T1 card pool. I have decided, to try and reduce the number of mise-prizes won in future, to ban each deck that successfully wins a mise-prize. If this seems unfair, then please let me know either on this thread, the 3CB thread in the community forum, or by PM. I don’t think that anything would need banning on sheer power level – not at the moment, at any rate.

Again, I apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay. I have no idea when I’ll be able to post the results for the next 3CB tournament (#39), as I need to collect the entries, calculate etc and I am not going to have very much computer access in the near future. Things can become far less hectic after this tournament, however. Hope this is OK with everyone.

Please post any corrections/discussion.

Hold on.  I know I put in Sapprazzan COVE, not Skerry, into my submission.  That's going to be a bit of work to recalculate everything.  I know Skerry doesn't work because of the depletion couters.  However, Storage lands do work.

Here are my matchups:
Wonkey (0-6)-I lose because of pox
Combo Dude (6-0)-He has nothing on Energy Field (Cove gets around Trinisphere)
Kasuras (6-0) - See above
R_X (0-6) - Stupid life loss getting around Energy Field
Bluejay (0-6)- Discard! Gah I hate discard XP.
Lyrrhus (2-2) - Mize
Lotushead (2-2) - He can't get past Energy Field, I can't get past commander
Zelc (6-0) - Processor not fast enough to get past Energy Field
Morefling (0-6)- Silly energy field only stopping opponent's sources
GoblinBoy (0-6) - Beats me fair and square
Nibble (0-6) - Have I ever mentioned how much LD is unfair XD.
Erdric (6-0) - Too slow for energy field
Virtual (2-2) - His Scalding Tongs do 0 damage, and my escape artist can't attack
Wonkey2 (2-2) - I don't play Artist, just leave Field there
Combo2 (0-6) - I hate discard, I hate discard
Nibble2 (2-2) - Mize
Lotus2 (2-2) - I can't deal with platinum angel, he can't deal with Energy Field

My total:
36... bah... all that work for an increase of like 10 points?

Tom,
Thank you for running these fun tournaments, but I have a couple corrections for my results.

First,
Trinisphere only means my Mana Vault costs 3 to cast, but I can still cast Leveler the next Turn! So, I should have beaten Combo_dude and Kasuras each 6-0.

Second,
Leveler is colorless, what do I care about Addle.  So, I also should have beaten BlueJay 6-0.

Well,
If Lockdown uses the Skerry, he drops the Energy Field on his turn 2 and I lose to him 0-6 as shown. But if he used the Cove, like he meant to, he can't drop the Energy Field until his turn 4.  Since I can kill him on my Turn 3, whether he goes first or not, I would beat him 6-0.

So I should have had 64 points, or 70 if Lockdown's deck is changed.  That would put me in 4th or a tie for 1st.

Thank you again for running these fun tournaments.

crap... you're right.   Leveler is 10/10.  silly me.  so it's 0-6.  and even if it was skerry, I'd have to drop artist first to have a shot at winning.  So it's be 4-1.  But it's not.  It's 0-6.  crap... down to 30 points.

Yay! the winner.

I must admit, though; I didn't come up with the deck on my own. I run 3CB over at mtgnews, and stole it from one of the participants over there. He'll never be the wiser  Twisted Evil

Does the mana crypt trick actually work? Surely it should be random effects you OWN that go in your opponent's favour.

Once you have been donated a Mana Crypt, you OWN it.  So at the beginning of your upkeep, you flip a coin, lose the flip, and Mana Crypt deals 3 damage to you.

Not really. If the Mana Crypt is donated by player A to player B, player A stays the owner. Player B becomes the controller, which is different.

I think the donate --> crypt trick should stay. Mainly because that is what the card says.. (Controller.)

We've always played the mana crypt thing as working - why change it now? It's good for the environment - it creates a deck that can function as a definite clock (i.e. you'd better have something good by turn 8).

By the way, I don't know if he's posted anything separately yet, but wonkey_donkey and I are going to Spain for a week tomorrow - so no #39 results for a while either.

Have fixed the results now, and the first post has been changed to reflect the change in winners. Congratulations Erdrick!

Leveler marches on...
