Well, this is my First Report in a long time, Since My T8 at Gamers Haven With Long.Dec

The Story Begins the day before with "will I make my Rent?" worries. I am a Dealer for the Kirby Home Care System (TM), and if I don’t sell, I don't eat. I can use to not eat for a few days, but I need a place to keep my Cards, so I go out and do demos from 7am till 9pm. The last demo takes until 11:30 to sell the system, and I am 2 hours from home. So as you can tell, I don't get much sleep when I have to get up at 6:30 the next day to pick up Mark (FCGFAN) to head to Newington. We get there with about an hour to Spare and Meet the Remaining Members of New Team Batman and our other BBRI associates. All in all about 15 players from my Store.
This is the pile I Piloted--

U/G Madness, Batman Redux

ManaBase (AKA Teh Cards That Crucible Tries to Eat)

1x Mox Emerald (Proxy)
1x Mox Sapphire (Proxy)
1x Black Lotus (Proxy)
1x Strip Mine
4x Wasteland
4x Polluted Delta
4x Tropical Island
4x Island
4x Forest

Critters (AKA I beat Fishies)

4x Aquamoeba
4x Basking Rootwalla
4x Wild Mongrel
4x Arrogant Wurm

Control/Draw
3x Null Rod
1x Ancestral Recall (Proxy)
1x Deep Analysis (shoulda been Time Walk, Brain Fart)
3x Annul (MVP, absolute Bomb)
4x Brainstorm
4x Circular Logic
4x Force of Will (All Italian, Oh Yeah)

Sideboard
2x Wonder
3x Stupefying Touch (I Knew at least 2 togs would be there)
3x Ground Seal (Mighta Been better as Tormods)
3x Oxidize
4x Blue Elemental Blast (will Prob. go down to 3 next time)

I Stood By andystok's table right before the event and heard about
12 separate ppl ask for crucible of worlds. I decided that there must be enough artifacts (and thanks to fish variants) enchantments to warrant main deck Annuls. I looked and only saw 1 or 2 aggro decks and decided Wonders had to go. I also cut a deep Analysis because, well, I don't like them very much in this deck. They make you too Vulnerable to amazing topdecks and slow your advance by tying up yer mana.

Well here are the matches

Round 1 Dragon
This Guy Beat me Pretty Bad With a weirdo Arcbound Crusher deck at Disposable Heroes awhile back, so I have no idea What he was playing at first.

He Wins the Roll
Game 1-No Mulligans
He goes off through Null Rod, Annul and a Force of Will.

Sideboard
Out- Deep Analysis, Brainstorm, 4 circular logic, 1 Arrogant Wurm
In- 4 BEB, 3 Ground Seal (woulda been better as tormods)

Game 2 He Keeps, I mull to 6
I see none of the cards I sided and he goes off with sliver queen on turn 5 after duressing me Twice.

So here I am off to a terrible Start. I get a big pick me up when I go to My Girlfriends Match to see how she is doing. She is beating up badly on a fish Player; he has a Mancer and a cloud in play, but not for long, as She uses Hidden Herd Equipped With Sword of Fire/Ice to annihilate his meager board.

On to Match 2
U/r Fish
Same Kid My G/F beat 2-0!
We talk before the match and the kid thinks I am playing Stacks, Because I Say I have a great fish matchup. He may have kept a different kind of hand because of it.
He wins the roll

Game 1
He Mulls to 6. I keep.
He plays turn 1 Ancestral. I force it.
I then lay a first turn Mongrel and being to smash with a 2nd turn walla/wurm after an ancestral of my own.

Sideboard- No Changes, Why mess with Success?

Game 2
We both Keep. My Hand consists of 5 lands and the Mongrel/Walla Pair.
He Goes Turn 1 Mox Sapphire, Island, Faeries. I play out a Rootwalla and pass. He Drops Turn 2 Crucible with a wasteland! I relax, knowing that I have 8 basic lands and nothing to worry about. I drop an Island and play Mongrel. He drops another cloud and says go. I drop another island and swing. He takes it and sees a wurm come out. He has no counter for it.
Now he draws Strip mine. He Eats my land every turn but cannot stop the beats. He showed me a hand with 3 REBs.

Match 3
Control Slavery (Gen-con Build)
This is a player who I believe T16’d at Waterbury last time. He was the fellow I split the Syrup chugging championship with. Friendly guy.
He wins the die roll.

Game 1
He gets some welder beats in while I strip/waste his lands. Then I drop null rod. It resolves. The only land he got afterwards I had a wasteland for.

Sideboarding- Out 4 Circular logic, brainstorm, deep anal, 1 arrogant wurm
In- 4 BEB, 3 Ground Seal

Game 2
I play an early ground seal and then followed it up with a null rod.

Games- 4-2-0, matches 2-1-0

This match was very quick, so I went to see how my buddy Mark was doing. He was beating up on a FCG player who he got paired up to. He pounded the guy with a morphling for game.

Match 4
FCG player Mark Beat
I win the roll

Game 1
He runs over me in FCG fashion. I cannot wait for wonders out of the side.

Sideboarding- Out-1x Deep Anal, 1x Annul, 4x circular logic,
In- 4x BEB, 2x Wonder

Game 2
I Get the nuts draw and counter both 2nd and 3rd turn food chains. As expected I win.
Game 3
This Game was pretty tight, and it came down to a final 2 turns. He played a recruiter and stacked his deck. He then passed the turn with 3 lands and a mox ruby in play. He did not have a prospector in play so I dropped the null rod in my hand onto the table and put him at 7 with me having 8 damage in creatures and a wonder in the G/Y. when he realized he could not go off due to the missing mox mana, he scooped.

Games 8-3-0, matches 4-1-0

Match 5
Draw7 or TPS?
Friend of AndyStok / Samite Healer.
This guy was nice before the tourney, but not so much during the match. Maybe because of the winner getting a sure in into T8 he was kind of stressed.

I win the roll

Game 1
I lay Island, go and he lays a first turn Bargain. I Respond with Annul. It goes downhill from there with my null rod and such.

Game 2
This Game is tight and he has to go off twice because he ran out of spells.

Game 3
It comes down to a crucial turn where he has 4 spells in hand, storm count of 6, 5 life and a blue floating with only an emerald untapped. He plays a chromatic sphere and I hardcast force of will. He was pretty pissed about that and scoops.

Match 6
Well, guess what. 3rd in the standings after 5 rounds, it is time to consider an ID. My Opponent is Alden Earle (another BBRI guy) playing Draw 7. He knows I can beat him between my hate filled maindeck and sideboard. With MY Tie Breakers there was no way I could not Top 8, and with his 1 match had to go his way for him to come in 8th. We ID and I get in as 7th seed.

TOP 8
Trinistax

Game 1
He walks into an annul with a turn 1 crucible. This stalls him awhile, but he manages to go aggro pentavus and win.

I don’t remember my Sideboarding out, but BEB and Ground Seal come in.

Game 2
Null Rod and Ground Seal win this Game, as well as all 4 wastelands as early as turn 6 (I kept an opening with 2).

Game 3
Really tight game, comes down to me needing a 3rd mana source within 9 draws. This I do not get. I die holding art. destruction and multiple ground seals.

What is my Prize after 5 rounds and 6 hours? A 6X9 Black lotus. I pay $15, Drive Nearly 2 Hours, play for 6, Top 8 with a 63 player Tourney, what do I get? A FUCKING 6X9 LOTUS! HA    HA        HA. WTF is that?

I have played at tournaments for $5 with a higher prize pool than that. Not only was I the only U/G madness player, but I was also the Only BBRI player to T8. we had 9th, 10th, 12th, 14th, and 16th though. Overall a good day.

Props-
My G/F Jess for Almost making Top 8 with R/G  Beatz.
Samite Healer, For Savage Deck Finishing Collection Possession Skills.
Annul, for owning every deck I played.
Hadley, for not showing up.
Hometown Buffet, for putting out 4 consecutive Pizzas just for ME!!!!

Slops-
Tourneys Prize Pool- why dost thou Suckest Thine Biggest one?
Deep Analysis, for not being Time Walk all day
Map quest, for being map quest and costing me 35 minutes in crack infested Hartford.
And Hometown Buffet, for kicking me out at 9:30, when I had not had all that I could eat.

You sell vacuum cleaners? I don't wanna get off topic but where can I get a replacement part for a Kirby G55. My carpet shampooer thing, the tank that holds the soapy liquid stuff is broken and I need a new one.  Very Happy

Uhhh back on topic. I watched some of those matchups your g/f played. She did get to smash quite alot of fish. I was also playing a R/G Beat variant (and got 15th) but I never got to play against fish. I was jealous of her deck, she had black bordered monkeys and mine were white.  Crying or Very sad

I was one of the fish decks she smashed.  But I can't help but think that if I played more Crucibles I would have won easily enough.  I didn't own Crucibles and I didn't get them in time to put them in my deck, so I had one maindeck and none sideboarded.  I would have liked to play two maindeck and a third sideboard.  What that basically meant against her hidden enchantments was that I had to wait to break them until I could deal with the 5/3, 4/4 or 3/3 creature.  I went 1-2 against her, and the game I won was solely because of Crucible.  I just kept playing and chumping with Factories, and pumping them to kill her creatures, and then I took my time with the win.

In short, the deck was a good surprise deck to take to the tournament, but fish shouldn't have too hard a time if they play Crucibles and figure out how to deal with creatures.

First off, the tourney was great. I picked up "Ben I don't have a car Kowal" and we had a great time.

Second there were 54 players in attendance. The entry fee was $15. Now if you consider the prize structure:

Black lotus
Mox ruby?
6x 6x9 lotus's

Black lotus in EX- condition is $700, mox's are $350-400.
54 people paying $15 is $810
Let's just say for a moment that I'm wrong.
63 players paying $15 is $945.

He is losing money either way. It was a great tourney and stok gets a few notches in my book.

Great report otherwise and congrats on the T8

Yeah... I have to give Andy credit for the tourney. On the announcement page it said admission was $20, you know how happy I was when they told me it was $15?

Jacob Orlove, one of my buddies (Jollysaintj) offered me his for $10. Ask him about it.

I made top 8 with a workshop aggro deck, very similiar to the one that placed Second at Gencon. I was 4-0 and IDed into Top 8 and won then lost 2 close games to control slaver. The tournament was well run and a lot of fun.

Also the oversized Lotus I won is awesome, it may not be worth too much but it is definetly a unique prize and looks cool pinned to my wall.
