I would like to start out by saying it was a really good event a total of 36 showed including The lord atog, Jacob orlove and samite healer.  Heres the decklist of what I played:

wtf/r
mana 24
1 black lotus
1 mox sapphire
1 mox ruby
4 volcanic island
4 tropical island
4 polluted delta
4 mishra's factory
4 wastelands
1 stip mine

huge dudes 16
4 spiketail hatchling
4 river boa
4 cloud of faerie
4 grim lavamancer

drawing 9
4 standstill
4 curiosity
1 ancestral recall

disruption 9
4 force of will
2 daze
3 null rod

randomness 2
1 time walk
1 cruible of worlds

Sideboard
3 pyroblast
2 stifle
2 fire/ice
2 blue elemental blast
1 rack and ruin
2 artifact mutation
3 energy flux

I get to the wizards duel about 30 minutes before it started and my friends where telling me how wtf/r is crap.  As far as I know now there were like 5 or 6 fish decks and only 2 of them were 2 wtf/r (me and Jacob orlove).

Anways the first round is announced and I almost wanted to drop dead right there when I heard mike burns (me) vs rich (the atog lord)

Round 1 the atog lord play what else Control Slaver (like we didn’t see that coming)
I won the die roll and I look at my hand it was for the most part crap besides I could go lotus triple lavamancer with no red source. That’s what I end up doing never found the red source and I die with a platuim on the board.

Game 2 I really don’t remember a lot about this game but I do remember that he made a lot of mountains for me with blood moon and old man in the sea sealed the deal and my doom.
0-1   but I had no problem losing first round to rich.

Round 2 chris playing belcher
Game 1 I waste his land on turn 1! And I was told later he was only running 1 land. He scoops when I counter yawg will.
Game 2 I went turn 2 null rod turn 3 energy flux and he scooped. On a good note I was lucky he didn’t notice how he probably could of beatran my turn 2 before I got null rod out.
1-1

Round 3 aaron playing gay/r
Game 1 he wins the die roll and plays the first turn lavamancer.  After the lavamancer resolved it really didn’t matter but I managed to get him down to like 4 or 5.
Game 2 it was time for me  to go first turn lavamancer. He also goes turn 1 lavamancer and gets he active before mine but is quickly fired along with a cloud of faeries. We trade a lot of creatures for awhile while my boa goes the distance.
Game 3 I really shouldn’t of won this game. He goes land lavamancer. I go fetch fetch for volcanic lavamancer (not sure what is with these draws). He go land spiketail. I go land time walk in witch he says ok. I go to my next turn and burn his lavamancer. At this time he says can we go back I made a mistake I want to counter your time walk. I know he wanted to counter it with spiketail but I can’t let someone do that into a mox tourney especially when it was the big of a mistake because I needed the 2 card in grave and to burn his lavamancer before he got his turn and did it to mine. He got another mancer and shot mine before I got to shot his. At this point I play cruible and he plays his own on his turn.  At this point the game was just stupid but I got rid of his lavamancer and he couldn’t find anymore threats besides conclaves what I kept wastelanding and he would just replay them and I won with 2 boas.  If he had spiketailed my time walk he would of burned my lavamancer and looking at what I had he would have been able to stop my from doing anything for like 4 turns when I drew the fire.ice for his second mancer
2-1

Round 4 guy playing gay/r
Game 1 he goes land go. I go land lavamancer. He go land cloud fly men.  I stared at the fly men because hes so cool for a whil than I took my turn of cloud spiketail hatchling. He swung and our teams traded.  Next turn I played a factory and a boa. A couple turns later while I have the whole board and standstill he breaks it for his own standstill! I still don’t understand the point of breaking my standstill for my to draw 3 for his standstill when I have the board.
Game 2 turn 1 I went lotus volcanic sac lotus for blue play spiketail us e the other blue for recall on myself than play a lavamancer.  I get early threats while firing his. Than cruicible looks like game but he gets and island and mountain out.  I start getting bao factory beats going and he plays standstill while I have board again. I win the turn after he breaks his own standstill.
3-1
At this point John trys saying 5th will be the last before top 8 wihle he has been saying 6 rounds all before.

Round 5 vs 4 cc
Game 1 I get him to 2 and he gets the angel and swings put him at 6. he time walks and puts himself at 10. I get enough creatures out a couple turns later and put him at 3 and im at like 6.  Its his turn and he rips a blance and I force but he forces back and we go to game 2 because after he swung he was at 7 and I could do that with 1 creature 2 land.
Game 2 I get the lavamancer start. For the next turn turns I play spiketails and he plays nothing. He dies without enough mana for be able to cast anything because of wasteland/spiketail/daze is so good.
Game 3 I should of played this differently but I didn’t know this until I found out what he had in his hand.  I play a Volcanic and sit on a pyro blast instead of playing lavamancer. I play a spiketail next turn and I sac it and use daze to stop a morph.  This is when I played boa and still kept pryoblast back up instead of playing mancer not expecting his next play to be an morphed angel again. I tried waste of white source lavamancer go but he had the second white source and I cant cop wit ha turn 4-5 unmorphed angel and he wills for the other one back 2 turns later.
3-2 and John reannouces that there is a round 6 and I am very relieved because I still have a spot (because of a rule I don’t agree with that no IDs.)

Round 6 vs Samite Healer playing 4cc (I didn’t like playing samite when it was do or die for top 8 for both of us.)
I don’t realy remember any of these games but I do remember that for the most part samite draws abolsute crap and I get lucky and win 2-0 and I know I really didn’t deserve it.
4-2

The top 8 is announced and the breakdown looks something like this
4 control slaver
2 wtf/r (me and Jacob the only ones playing it at the tourney)
1 agrro workshop that was r/g with skullclamp for drawing
1 4 cc (the one that beat me round 5

At this point I like where Im at because before this mox tournament the best ive done at a mox tourney is 9th place and that sucks when you go to a top 8.

Top 8 vs My friend Corey play Slaver
Game 1 I believe he goes first and I have Lavamancer! I believe his turn 3 he makes his fatal mistake of not playing a land for the turn and taps out for tinker and I have the daze.  He was mad for being that stupid and he would of won but mistakes happen. After that he really didn’t play anything else while I get my beats on
Game 2 he mulls to 5 and the game was really one sided.

I luck out and im in top 4.

Its now just me, Rich, Meddling mage, and Jacob Orlove.  WE try to spilt 4 ways but couldn’t do it fairy and make a pretty good agreement and go off to play our top 4 matches. I want to note that at this point its 2 wtf/r and 2 salvers left. (and from what my friends said before I guess bad decks do good in tourneys since wtf/r is such a bad deck.)

Top 4 vs Meddling mage playing salver
Game 1 I suck at remember but I do remember it being all my until he solves a salver and slavers me and I top deck recall and he had 0 cards in hand. I recall him because I love making bad plays under slaver and he wins at 3 with angel on board. His mana crypt was on the board for like 5 turns and I only won once. This isn’t cool because it cost me the match.
Game 2 I go turn one land mox cloud lavamancer. I follow up next turn with cloud null rod and I win rather easy but I got really luck with I think 2 Pyros in hand just in case.
Game 3 was very one sided as he plays the slaver game I hate so much and I really never was in this game.

At this point its Meddline mage vs The Atog Lord for the finals and me and Jacob for 3rd 4th. Both games decide to play. I knew I wasn’t going to be Jacob but I wanted the experience because Jacob is a better player overall and wtf/r is his deck and ive only been playing it a week.

Game 1
He gets out a lavamancer and than the baos start coming out and the unblockable boas are fast than mine and I lose.

Game 2
He mulls to 4 and we know its over but we play it out and we had fun with this game playing really bad play mistakes because we were board.

Game 3
It was fairly even until he played call of the heard. I find this ironic because I was telling Jacob earlier how I didn’t like call in wtf/r.  I could deal with the tec call token than another comes out when he flashbacks and it makes it worse. But for kicks I decided to waste to voalnic in response so boa would be blockable even though I had no blockers and jocob responses with he own waste on my volcanic and stifling my waste. It really didn’t matter because I lose to random 3/3s when my green source gets wasted.  Jacob was a really cool guy though and im glad I got to lose to him with his own deck mirror match.

Meddline Mage beat The Atog Lord in the finals and took the mox.  I was just glad to be able to play people as good as some of the people at the tournament as I did because normally I only used to play ELD who sadly got a job and I never see him anymore.

Props
wtf/r for making 2 slots in the top 8
Rich, Jacob, Meddling mage, and Jeff (Samite Healer) for being so cool and being able to play them in tournament magic even though my game with Jacob seemed like a random game played by 0-2 drops.
Mac and cheese for being so good when I got home from the tourney.
All the cool drawings on cards Jeff did and Meddling mages fun proxies of the power.

Slops
Someone breaking standstill for standstill or even playing standstill when you don’t have the best board position.
Going triple Lavamance off lotus and never getting a red source even though Rich never played a welder till it didn’t matter.
My friend Corey for making my feel so bad because he beat himself in game 1 and game 2 was just horrible draws and it was his birthday.
Pat Brodrick for getting the dreadful 9th place only losing to rich and someone who he let play his own gro deck so they had a deck to play.
Me for being bad at remember the matches and not saying a lot of most of them.

It really was a fun tournament expect for the fact no IDs and no forfeits not that I really agree with forfeits but if you say your going by DCI rules its not cool to make up random rules as you go.  I like wtf/r over Gay/r as you get artifact hate like oxdize and artifact mutation instead of just rack and ruin.  Also Boas can really win you games and he is really good in this deck.  I didn’t like standstill as it was the card I sided out the most and it really was poor so I think I might go with brainstorm but any ideas for what I could turn the clouds into if I do that?  I know Jacob said I only really need 14 creatures to support the curiosity so I could retest Call of the heard and Jacob also made a surgestion I in a way like of maybe main decking the artifact mutations if I want to instead of clouds because as others have said oxidize can see play in main so why not mutation as it can give you lots of saprolings and no one is expecting it game 1.  Its dead in some matches but same was oxidize but its harder to cast.  I still have to test these but I wanted to see if anyone else though of anything else for me to test for that main deck slots for clouds saying that I take out the standstills for brainstorms.  And on one more note is crucible worth 1 spot MD or SB? I liked it when I got it out most of the time but it can be hard to cast or if your opponent has crucible you get nowhere, plus Playing Slaver here is very popular and I always side it out because I don’t want it to be countered than used to weld out for null rod.

Don't you find that energy flux to be slightly off the mana curve which when i played wtf it hurt.

Also This build is very similar to mine so i would have taken out 1 boa for a fire/ice main and even another 1 main deck is a good idea because of the meta of fish/slaver. I would take out a daze for the other fire/ice and take 1out of the board for oxidize or somthing.

Also what was the prize structure for this event what did you win.

The prize structure was going to be:

1st: UL Mox Ruby
2nd: Kamigawa Box
3rd: Kamigawa Box
4th: draft set

However, once we had the top 4, no one wanted to risk getting the draft set, so after some discussion, we agreed that whoever won would give $50 to 4th place, to even it out a little.

Since he got 4th, he got $50 from the other mike, and a booster pack (2nd 3rd and 4th split the draft set).

Interesting report,

Was there any specific reason you used Pyroblast instead of Red Elemental Blast? Also, was there anything that Sword of Fire and Ice would have helped out against, like the WTF/r Mirror? Did you consider Annul as a 2ndary Hard Counter MD?

Props to the player using Old Man of the Sea, he is a total bomb in Control Slaver SBs. Stealing Lavamancers, Curiousity Targets, Goblin Welders, Metal Workers, Xantid Swarms and Morphed Angels is HUGE. Arabian Nights Tech 4LIFE.

This is Aaron, I played you in round 3. Congratulations on your finish, you played some solid games. As for the third game that we played, it was a stupid mistake on my part, I deserve a loss for that. The one play involving the Time Walk sealed the deal.

As for the rest of the tournament, I went 3-2 before I had to leave. It was a fun time, and I got the chance to meet some really cool people. For reference, this was my list:

Gay/r 9/4/04

Gayness (15)
4x Grim Lavamancer
4x Cloud of Faeries
4x Spiketail Hatchling
2x Razorfin Hunter
1x Gorilla Shaman

Countermagic (8)
4x Force of Will
2x Daze
2x Stifle

Draw (9)
4x Standstill
4x Curiosity
1x Ancestral Recall

Disruption (3)
3x Null Rod

Utility (2)
1x Time Walk
1x Crucible of Worlds

Mana (23)
4x Polluted Delta
1x Flooded Strand
4x Volcanic Island
2x Island
4x Mishra's Factory
2x Faerie Conclave
4x Wasteland
1x Strip Mine
1x Mox Sapphire

Sideboard (15)
2x Red Elemental Blast
1x Blue Elemental Blast
2x Maze of Ith
3x Fire/Ice
2x Unsummon (should be Sigil of Sleep)
2x Energy Flux
1x Rack and Ruin
1x Crucible of Worlds
1x Null Rod

congradulations on your sucess. I to have been messing around with WTFr for my meta. Heres what I have so far

I've been trying out many things right now and my meta is heavy workshop and control heres my list right now

3 River Boa
4 Spiketail Hatchling
4 Cloud Of Faeries
4 Grim Lavamancer

1 Fire/Ice
1 Stifle
2 Daze
4 Force Of Will
4 Standstill
4 Curiosity
2 Oxidize
1 Crucible Of Worlds

4 Trops
4 Volcs
5 Fetches
1 Island
4 Mishra
5 Strip Effects

3 Artifact Mutation
2 Energy Flux
2 Rack And Ruin
3 Red Elemental Blast
2 Maze Of Ith
2 Fire/Ice
1 Crucible

Theres many things I want to try out, like Annuls main and maybe boards. Annul might be a good replacment for Oxidize main but who knows.  What do you think of some cards to fit in? Also how were your matches verus Artifact based workshop decks? Also do you think 3 snakes or 4 snakes is an optimal number?

This is my current list.  I have no md rods because they suck in my meta, but in a unknown/more copetitive meta I would cut 2 fire/ice and something else for the standard 3 rods (maybe the crucible):

14 Creatures:
4 grim lavamancer
4 river boa
4 spiketail hatchling
1 gorilla shamen
1 call of the heard

22 spells:
4 curiosity
4 brainstorm
1 ancestral recall
4 force of will
2 stifle
2 daze
2 fire/ice (meta consideration)
1 timewalk
1 oxidise
1 crucible of worlds

24 Manaz:
4 wasteland
4 mishra's factory
4 polluted delta
4 volcanic island
3 tropical island
1 flooded strand
1 strip mine
1 library of alexandria
1 mox saphire
1 island

How did the 8dual/4 fetch arrangement work out for you?  I am using 7 dual/ 5 fetch but I have also seen lists going 6/6.  I like the 4th volcanic because in my meta lavamancer activations and fire/ice are very important.

As you can see I am using brainstorm over standstill and 14 creatures.  This has been working well for me so far.

I included the 1 crucible because I see almost no combo in my meta and It has gamebreaking potential even at 3cc with all of the synergy in this deck.

I LOVE stifle, not just on fetchlands but it can own activation on a welder/lavamancer so that your mancer can get active and pwn it.  I also like daze alot as part of the mana denial element so I run 2 of each.

The non-inclusion of rod is simply due to the non-exisitance of slaver and combo in my meta, and fire/ice due to the prevalence of fish and other budget creature using decks.  Despite this i like the utiliy provided by the lone shamen and the lone oxidise.

I decided to run only the saphire and no lotus/other moxes because I am hesistant to cut anything from my manabase OR to go over 24 sources.

1 call of the heard is THE TECH.  I always seem to be happy to see the card, but I think 1 is enough.

There is nothing I am unhappy with in my list so far.  Whenever I think about the mana base I get really scared but in testing it is awsome.

Kill doug: engery flux is terrible and I'm gonna try to put in ether oxidize or naturalize in that spot.

Aaron: good job you did good except that one mistake what gave me a huge tempo boost.

Choas Blade: I never got to play a workshop deck like i wanted to as it was half my reason for flux since workshop cant help pay for it so I don't know as to how bad the match up is but I do know how bad it can get when they go first turn trinisphere.  I havn't figured out the best creature base yet as you can see, but boas can be a savage beatan.  I have too many things to test right this second, but for now i cna live with 4 boas.

things im currently gonna test in main:
fire/ice as it is so good in the meta and I side it in a lot
brainstorm because standstill isn't doing so well
call of the herd because of Jacob I think I should retest is as I already need more creatures and a 3/3 with flash back is great vs fish what can't handle big creatures that well all the time. and things that are mostly creaturless.
mox monkey even though I know from hulk smash he can defintaly but worth it as a 1 of.
and taking out daze because they already play around it and its way to situtional and returning the land is too hard when you want to use the mana everyturn for hte first couple of turns and call of the heard is very expensive to lose a land drop to replay a land you had in play.

board
energy flux isn't cutting it and I  think oxidize or naturalize owuld be better. anyone tested them both and know if naturalize is better because of randomness or is oxidize the way to go?
also sigil will be tested in fire/ices spot because I keep hearing good things about it and I already saw how Angels give my problems.

this is a rumor as of right now but I heard John saying he might have another mox tourney next month and i hope its as good as this last one and Jacob I want to have a chance to beat you without you mulling to 4 first  Razz

Hey, good to see I'm not going to be the only one posting a report up, I'll finish it up shortly. Congrats on the solid fourth and mizing fifty bucks rather than a draft set in the deal. I think the make up of the t4 was a bit off, a fella named Brian Rozzero made t8 and played me round one with a R/G featuring serendib efreet and Mishra's factory type deck, I thought I got a pretty decent look at it since I played him in the last round of the swiss as well.

There are many things im testing right now  to. I've edecided that the 4th boa is needed and I dropped a Cloud for it. Also Im trying out 2 maindeck Annuls and I've dropped the Oxidizes, as I want a way to deal with turn 1 spheres.

EDIT also how was Cruiclbe good for you? I run an underpowered build and never seem able to get it out, but when it can hit its a bomb.
