A set that plays up Legends brings back fond memories of using gold ones in Invasion Sealed to opening non-rares in Homelands. Unfortunately, most of the Champions are more expensive, Timmy-type rares that aren't so useful in more streamlined Type I.

The problem I have with your (and JP's) review of Kamigawa is that you do not post what the card actually is/does before the explanation. Yes, that would make the article bigger, but we aren't forced to go cross-reference it against the spoiler, especially when the cards are not in alphabetical order.

Other than that, it's fine.

Well, if you remember when I began writing the regular column back in 2001, that was precisely the format I used.

Somewhere there, Ferrett said to cut out all the card text, because they'd automatically have hyperlinks to Star City's card scans and database.

Apparently, however, the database for CoK is not yet up, so all the links don't work. The editors no longer accept articles with the card text there, though.

Strange. He allowed it for Ben's article, and I thought it was pretty gosh darn handy. Oh well, at least reading your article upped the traffic to Toad's mtgpics.com site.

Also:

Eh? Two cards that are both more useful than the other. It hurts my brain.

The point is moot, though.

Agreed Smile

Good article, by the way.

The Ferret's reign of Terror is over. Razz Knut's the new big cheese at SCG...

Well, I know what you mean, but if you only preview 15-20 cards, it should be allowed, especially not that people don't really know what the cards do, and especially since they are not in the database.

It's now when people would read this review the most.

I don't think I read anything of yours in 2001. Heck, those years are a drunken, hazy blur for me for some reason... I vaguely remember a war starting, and some bizarre things... Very Happy

ps: yes, I enjoyed the article. Very Happy

Sorry. That was being written in between clients. What I meant to say was that the Legend attacks midgame when the opponent can afford to stop playing land, while the Ankh comes out earlier to catch fetches.

Something like that.

Man, it's been a long time since I lurked here. Real life owns. (It's been an even longer time since I used "owns")

Yeah. You should come in here more often, mister lawyer man! We are after all the undisputed hub of the Vintage community. Keeping in touch with the footsoldiers never hurt any general (read: any general that can take a flame or two on occasion). Allthough absence does add to your legendary status somewhat (but be careful: under the new rules, a second Rakso will bring both of you down).

You: "Island, Ancestral."
Him: "Ok."
You: "Ruby, Goblin Welder."
Him: "Force of Will."

It seems that Ancestral isn't even worth countering anymore... Very Happy It's not good anymore. Razz

In all honesty, though, back on track, Kamigawa seems to be so vastly underpowered for T1. It's a creature-based set, it seems, and that follows logically, but still... Would Mirrodin->Kamigawa be the same as Urza->Mercadian Masques?

I drew the comparison to Legions because Champions is all about Legendary Creatures, so a lot of the stuff in there gravitates around abilities that hit creatures and combat abilities.

Legions brought no good creatures to Magic. Champions of Kamigawa has many really usefull stuff for Contructed (i'm talking about real Magic here). [card]Sakura-Tribe Elder[/card], [card]Yosei the Morning Star[/card], [card]Kokusho the Evening Star[/card] for example. Even the [card]Samurai of the Pale Curtain[/card] is really strong (Modular what?). So far I really enjoy the set. It will bring plenty new possibilities for Constructed.

Oscar, do you realize that 20% of your TMD posts were created today...in this thread...?

Where you Bean man?

Did you finish law school and pass the bar (on the way home)?

Will you be writing any articles about your experiences with CoK, as in "Head-to-Head with CoK"?

Ok. I'll stop there. But please do point out when and if you write anything new in the head-to-head series.

Dave.

Read the columns man. Very Happy I took a 2-week vacation to China, got appointed Chair of the Philippine Law Journal, had the Senate President pay for my tuition for Senior year and write a foreword to my last published academic legal article, and have been handling cases for indigent clients down to prosecuting a child rape case where the victim was 4 years old the first time.

Anyway, I had largely stopped posting in TMD by the time the server moved, remember? Smile The last time I was here, somebody was flaming me for writing a "History of The Deck" article that had no new tech in it.
