Whats your favorite movie/dvd by this funny bastard?  Discuss!

My personal favorite would be An Evening with Kevin Smith...his personal anecdotes on everything from meeting his wife to doing a short film for Prince are just hilarious.

It's pretty hard to pick one of these, I think, because I love all of his movies.  I guess I had to pick 'Strikes Back' though because I love all the cameos and how so many stars are making fun of themselves in it.  Smile

No Vulgar? No Chasing Flies? I am shocked!

Well, they both suck royal, so maybe I'm not.

My vote goes to Clerks. It's the Seinfield of movies. The dialogue is incredibly tight.

I'm with Wu on this.

I love Kevin Smith, although I hate Jersey Girl and Dogma and thought J&SB Strike Back was on the edge.

The 'new jersey trilogy' was brilliant, in my opinion. While most fans would vote for Clerks and most critics dismiss 'Mallrats' (which I adore) I think Chasing Amy hit just the right balance between content and nonsense. It's actually about something, and it really hits home with me on a personal level. Chasing Amy is my Top Ten Movies of All Time, whereas none of Smith's other ones are.

The playboy spread may have been online only...I haven't had time to look through back issues or anything on that.

I voted for An Evening with Kevin Smith just because its him ad libbing everything and just spinning stories, just really great stuff.  Of his regular movies, Chasing Amy is my favorite w/o a doubt, but Mallrats is the funniest one.  I am a bit skeptical of his upcoming The Passion of the Clerks (yes a sequel) but I'll reserve judgement until I see it.

Did you guys see a different Chasing Amy than I did??

the one I watched had about 20 minutes of good Kevin Smith humor, and then had like a whole hour of relationship bullshit....

You guys like Julia Roberts movies too???

wtf?

It was all about prime Kevin Smith humor with RELEVANT relationship bullshit. Plus, it added the word 'idiosyncratic' to my vokabbelary.

I like Kevin Smith and I like relationship movies, but yeah I gotta agree.  Chasing Amy (after the first reel anyway) really didn't seem to play to his strengths like a movie like Clerks or Jay and Silent Bob did.

Does that mean there will be no Julia Roberts marathon after the SCG tournament?  I was looking forward to a triple bill of Pretty Woman, Sleeping with the Enemy, and Erin Brochovich b/t games of Type 4.  Cool

Clerks, though Dogma is a close second. I haven't seen Chasing Amy.

Chasing Amy gets my vote because I am a total sap, but Clerks is very, very close. Mallrats was too puerile for me, and Dogma was really mainstream-ified compared to the other ones, which makes it hard to rewatch.

I haven't seen Jersey Girl or An Evening With Kevin Smith, but *shiver* I have seen Vulgar. It's one of those movies that you can't UNwatch.

An Evening with Kevin Smith is incredibly hilarious.  Special mention goes to Dogma, which would have been atop this list if it wasn't so horribly overdone.  Even Comedy Central broadcasts that movie.

Eh, I wouldn't say he's talentless, but he's definitely overrated. I mean, he doesn't really say anything terribly unique in his movies and the rest of it tends to be dick and pot jokes. Whoopee.

I've liked the comics he's written though.

Other than The Preacher, his Green Arrow work are my favorite comics that I have read in a very long time.  Excellent work there w/ a previously unappreciated character.  Anyone know if the trade paper of his run on the series is out yet?
