I haven't played magic in awhile but after taking a look at the current metagame (i.e. reading some recent tournament reports) I tried to update stacker. I feel as though mono red stacker in the past was better then the U/R ripoffs. So I wonder if this could be an alternative to 5/3. I know it loses Tinker and other good blue goodies but I mean I think the better manabase might make up for it's other shortcomings.

Suggestions:

Take out:
5-15 minutes of your time.

Put in:
Explanations, testing, theory, etc.

HAHAHAH, explanations. You are crazy. I just posted in this forum because I have no right to post in any competent forum since I haven't played competitive magic since january. If you don't understand the obvious reasons of my card choices then don't reply. This isn't supposed to sound mean... sorry if it does.

edit: Not to mention the decklist really doesn't serve a purpose other then to show I could still build a deck. I am more interested in starting a discussion on the merits on mono red stacker.

I think anything that can go Shop->3sphere, and follow it up with a Chalice is some good stuff.

Excuse my poor judgement as I know little to nothing about Stacker, but why not play something like Mind's Eye for additional card draw?

Here are a few explanations for you, Phel:

Su-Chi:
4/4 for 4.

Goblin Welder:
Broken.

Juggernaut:
5/3 for 4.

Gorilla Shaman:
It eats Moxen.

Masticore:
4/4 that kills weenies if Null Rod isn't on the table.

Triskelion:
4/4 that kills weenies if Null Rod isn't on table.

Blood Moon:
Non-basic hate. It does such things as horribly color-screw decks.

Rack and Ruin:
Destroys artifacts.

Trinisphere:
It beats combo.

Chalice of the Void:
It beats combo and Fish.

Wheel of Fortune:
It draws 7 cards.

Memory Jar:
It draws 7 cards and can be reused with Welders.

Black Lotus:
Makes 3 mana from 0 mana.

Moxen:
Land drops while still having the turn 1 Workshop.

Sol Ring:
Good turn 1 play, as you get 4 mana turn 2.

Mana Vault:
Kinda poopy, but it's still mana acceleration.

Mana Crypt:
Makes 2 mana a turn, in exchange for randomly Lightning Bolting you.

Mountain:
Makes R mana, which can be used for such things as playing spells.

Mishra's Workshop:
Makes 3 mana to power out expensive artifacts.

Wasteland:
This destroys a nonbasic land.

Strip Mine:
This destroys a land.

Tolarian Academy:
This makes lots of mana.

Seriously, this is a pure aggro deck, there are very few explanations needed. I know that this is posted in Newbie, but the base expectation is that people who come here know at very least how to lay cheap fat and smash face.

As for the poster's question as to whether mono-R Stacker is viable, I really can't say. Aggro Workshop is a very viable deck, but as for whether mono-R is better than U/R, I don't think so. You give up Tinker, Time Walk, and Ancestral, all of which are horribly broken cards.

Myself, I wouldn't give those up, as random broken wins games, but that's me. If you have had success without U, then it is a person preference.

Ah, yes.  The card-by-card analysis.  Everyone's favorite way of padding an article or post with no substance.

I did that for the sake of Angry Pheldagrif, just in case he needed information on the specific card choices, like why Juggernaut over Darksteel Gargoyle, for example.

The main advantage of Mono-R over U/R is that it can be more redundant on the whole. Instead of draw and a few broken cards, it just runs more guys to smash face with. Sometimes this can save a turn you need to win, though it precludes the use of Tinker. The other advantage it gains is a more stable mana base to deal w/ opposing wastes / B2B / propaganda / E. Flux with. It's a lot easier paying costs with 9 basics in the deck.

The only real difference between this and my last list was I still run 4 Pyrostatic Pillar in the SB for combo and some control over Crypts. That and I prefer Razormane over normal core. Wink

With so many beaters I would try to find some room for Swords of Fire and Ice.

Vegeta: Why do you suggest Razormane? I mean is the 1 extra mana worth being a 5/5 and null rod proof? In the past I remember while playing these types of decks (stacker, tubbies etc.) the 4cc first turn creature was one of the key successes of the predecessors. I mean the odds of having it in my opening hand aren't that high so I guess it's not really that big of a deal. But it also seems that every mana counts in this current metagame.

This is basically just a decklist, which is against the rules. Closed.

Silly me, I must've been imagining rules and standards again!

Wow. This is really sad. This is one of the main reasons I quit magic. The fact that this little stupid thing degenerated into an arguement is ridiculous. Close the thread.
