Ok, first and foremost I would like to just say thanks to Klown and Kowal for running a really really great event, everything, for the most part, operated very smoothly.

Alright, excited for the day to arrive, I fool around with my deck a bit and put together what I think would seem to be pretty adaptive to what the meta would be, and get ready to leave.  So Me, Sextiger, and Outlaw head over to Troy, NY. To pick up our good buddy Crossman Wilkins (Yes, Crossman is his real first name).  Grab some SAVAGE Friendly’s Tech, then we had west, west, west for hours when we finally arrive at the tournament site YAY.  We are greeted at the hotel by the very old/strange guy who ran the hotel who was outside at 1:30 AM walking around.  He informs us there is no vacancy, and directs us towards a nearby hotel.  So about 2 AM comes along and we get in and split the cost of a room 4 ways, which ends up coming out uneven with change, so we play a tournament for 1 dollar.

*mini tourney report starts now*

Round 1: I lose to Outlaw 1-2
Round 2: I lose to Cross 1-2
Round 3: I beat Sextiger 2-1

Cross goes on to win the extra dollar, it was an epic tournament, but would it dictate how I did the next day? I was hoping the answer would be no.

*mini tourney report ends here*

Alright, so it’s about 4:30 and we are settled in for bed.  We wake up around 9:30 and hop in the ole’ magic player kryptonite and wash up.  Play some trickery on Sextiger and have some laughs at the expense of his early morning statements.  Alright, back on track. We get to the scene, where by the way the old guy is still lingering around in the same clothes, I’m not fully sure if he had ever went inside or not.  Go in, I buy some clear and I’m pretty sure are NOT legal sleeves which I thought were silver WTF.  So I am forced to buy yet another pair of sleeves, for Klown bitch slapped my dragon sleeves out of the tournament.  So I fill out my registration sheet, and it reads like this.

//Name: Workshop Aggro

//Mana: 28
7 SoLoMoxen
5 Strips
4 Mishra’s Workshop
3 Volcanic Island
2 Shivan Reef
2 Flooded Strand
2 Island
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
1 Tolarian Academy

//Creatures: 12
4 Goblin Welder
4 Juggernaut
1 Triskelion
1 Razormane Masticore
1 Duplicant (Co-MVP)
1 Sundering Titan

//Goodies: 20
4 Thirst for Knowledge
4 Trinisphere
3 Crucible Of Worlds
2 Fire/Ice
1 Tinker (Co-MVP)
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Fact Or Fiction
1 Wheel Of Fortune
1 Memory Jar

//Sideboard: 15
4 REB
1 Pyroblast
2 Rack and Ruin
2 Damping Matrix
2 Chalice of the Void
2 Tormod’s Crypt
2 Hydroblast

Ok, so after a little bit of test draws, the round one pairings go up.  I’m going to just apologize now, I didn’t take notes, so I don’t remember hardly any of my opponents names, and the matches may be slightly sketchy, if anyone has corrections, feel free to let me know.

Round 1: Someone w/ Reanimator dragons

Game 1: I Mull down to five and have nothing but Workshop-Trinisphere.  I got a welder and then cast tinker to bring in Titan, he casts buried alive, then doesn’t do much after that.  Titan swings me to Game 2.

Game 2: We do a lot of draw-go, I lay a Trinisphere and get some nice slow mana, he bazaars his heart away, discarding Bladewing, the Risen. he reanimates it with no other dragons in the yard, He beats me down with it, I draw tinker.  I tinker in Duplicant, removing his dragon, I get welder out, I’m in complete control.  He then does buried alive for: Bladewing, the Risen, Dragon Tyrant, and anger.  He casts reanimate, and hits me for 16... I was at 13.
Game 3: I get out Tormod’s crypt, and get him in complete lock, He doesn’t really do much of anything this game.

1-0 : 2-1

Round 2: Someone w/ Staff MUD + Mask/Nought

Game 1: This game lasts for about 20 minutes, He’s casting Tangle Wire’s, Sphere of resistance, Karn, He has me in pretty much lock.  I build up an insane amount of mana and eventually the tangles fade out.  He welds a wire in. The casts mask face down creature.  I swing with my jug, he flips up dreadnought and I run into it.  I then cast tinker, putting in Duplicant, stealing his dreadnought.  He welds out my duplicant on his turn.  On my turn I kill his welder, play my own, and smooth sailing from there.

Game 2: He plays turn 1: Shop/Metalworker.  I play Mox, Mox, Welder, Timewalk.  Take my next turn, play crucible, and strip his workshop.  He reveals worker and in his hand is 7 artifacts with staff of domination in hand, I lose.

Game 3: He mulls down to 5, gets a couple of lucky topdecks and actually has me on the run with a welder and a dreadnought out.  On my turn I play Duplicant killing his dreadnought yet again. (Welder had sickness) tap 6, play Trike.  He racks my Trike and Duplicant.  I cast welder and win.

2-0: 4-2

Round 3: Dave Mazza w/ Slaver Variant

Game 1: Dave plays a turn 1 welder, I play a turn 1 welder.  He soon gets out a second welder.  I get enough mana saved up and cast Duplicant, Owning a welder, then soon after owning the other welder.  I get out triple welder, trinisphere lock, he scoops.

Game 2: He plays turn 1 welder, I play a welder, trinisphere and respond to it by firing his welder, which both resolve.  He builds up to 3 mana, racks my two artifacts.  I topdeck a mox jet, weld in trini, double waste his lands, he can’t recover.  He had fire/ice in hand.

3-0: 6-2

Round 4: Stephan w/ Old Man Fish

Game 1: He plays old man of the sea, I cannot find anything of use whatsoever and die from 2 beats and mana crypt.

Game 2: I power out an insanely broken hand with trinisphere/crucible lock.  Juggy joins party and the game ends shortly after.

Game 3: Was really close, I top decked tinker, and Brought in a trisk killing off 3 of his creatures, beating him to down to 3.  I mystical for fire/ice, attack for 1...but wait, he racks my Trike, I can’t draw anything to do 1 damage, and end up losing.
3-1: 7-4

Round 5: Kowal w/ Mono Blue

Game 1: I lubed up and rammed him pretty hard, he scoops on turn 1.

Game 2: He gets back to basics, energy flux, chalice for 1 lock, He informs me I can’t possibly win that game.  He draws nothing, I draw what I need, flux kills his chalice, I REB b2b EOT, he can’t counter it on like turn 10.  Untap + Win.

4-1: 9-4

Round 6: Someone w/ Stax

Game 1: He beats me fairly easily, gets me in the typical boring stax lock.

Game 2: I keep lotus, ruby, thirst, I thirst into godliness and easily win on from there.

Game 3: I use tons of disruption, I cast just about all 4 thirsts in this game within turn 4, I go broken, he scoops.

5-1: 11-5

Round 7 Me and Jim Phillips ID into the top 8

Top 8: I get paired up against Ashok a.k.a. The Method playing Stax.

Game 1: Turn 1 Juggernaut, Turn 2 Juggernaut, He plays welder, I fire it, He plays another one, it’s too late.

Game 2: I get an early Juggernaut out, fire away 2 of his welders, duplicant the other, beat him down pretty low, he hurkly’s me, played trinisphere, tanglewire, smokestack, crucible... yea I lost.

Game 3: I get momentum, killing off early welders and playing juggernaut.  I have 2 Juggernauts out, he is at 5 life.  He has no creatures in play.  He casts tinker.  He brings in duplicant, removing one of my juggs.  I have 1 card in hand, the 1 card in my hand is Duplicant, the problem is I have only 4 mana on the board.  I go to my draw step and rip lotus off the top.

Top 4: Scott Limoges w/ Mono Blue

Game 1: We both don’t really do early on.  I have about 5 lands out, all my business was countered.  He plays timewalk, mystical tutor for tinker.  He takes his walk turn and Tinkers in Colossus, I do have tinker in hand but no artifacts in play.  I go to my turn, draw crucible, cast crucible and pass the turn.  He swings me down to 9, I cast tinker for GUESS WHO... my 11/11 Duplicant takes it home.

Game 2: He utterly owns me with back to basics flux lock, I don’t do anything this entire game.
Game 3: He counters all my early threats.  It brings us both low on cards, I have 2 cards in hand he has 1, he taps out to play Morphling.  I smile, Scott says “no, no you don’t, don’t tell me you even have him.â€? Yea.... I Duped his Morphling, beat him down a while for 3, he did however have a keg out, he builds it up to 6, we both stall out, He casts tinker, I REB, I cast Trinisphere, it resolves.  He plays something on his turn, I don’t quite remember what.  I have overflowing mana at this point.  I cast memory jar in hopes of a counter.  He thinks about it for 5 minutes and forces it.  I play mana crypt, Tinker for triskelion, he can’t answer it.

The finals Match Coverage can be found in the type 1 tournament forum if you want to read it.  I figure it’s kind of redundant posting it here again.  But all in all I was psyched to win it all, there were many great players in attendance, and it was such a blast.

Props: - Klown and Kowal for being the shit and still giving out all the prizes, and for running a perfect tournament, thank you guys, I appreciate it.
- Thorme for having great ideas that helped me win the whole shebang.
- Outlaw for driving down and driving 1/10th of the way back.
- Sextiger lending me a couple of cards to lower my entree fee.
- The Mexicans outside of our hotel drinking until 4 AM blaring fiesta music

Slops: - Cross for scrubbing out with razorfin.dec/apology to kowal.dec COME ON MAN, you can do it.
- Losing the 1 dollar winner take all magic tournament in our hotel room.

"that dragon that when he comes into play another dragon can come into play from the graveyard (could someone please help me out, I cannot think of it’s name for the life of me) "

That'd be Bladewing, the Risen.

That was my friend Craig's deck. He gave you major props for an awesome game and liked the fact you that were nice in man handling him in the final game. You were his favorite round of the tournament.

Congrats on the win!

*Edit: Yea, that guy from the Inn really was weird. He stopped my two friends and I, and was rambling on and on about some weirdness...

I dont get it, what did you do with the fire/ice? Or was it like this: Opponent on 3 life, if Triskelion would've punched he could be Fired to death?

Yea thats exactly right, he was at 3 life, Trike had 0 Counters, I would have attacked for 1 and fired him for 2, but he racked the Trike, and I ended up having to use the fire to kill a couple of creatures to save me later on, while I found 0 of my own creatures

Definite props, Team Savage tech baby yeah!  We had been working on that deck for awhile, and Trix had been tweaking it and doing well with it forever.  The random mexicans outside our hotel were tech, and by tech I mean Savage tech.  Also would like to thank Kowal and kl0wn for running a good tourney, except for when we had to repair those few times (accidents happen).  Guys know what its like to have to listen to this kid when I drove home? (Jokingly, but seriously he thought I made him drive while I slept cause I was tired  Wink ) Kowal your head is still going to remain upon my pike, but your a great guy man.

So Duplicant was a 7 mana dark banishing and your other Jugg went the distance?

I particularly like the 2 fetchland, 2 Fire/Ice configuration, with the singleton Dupe/Trike/Titan for use with the Mystical/Tinker!  I think I'll start using that myself.

I think you slipped this in under a lot of people's sarcasm meter.

Just brag how he copied your deck, you know you want to...   Cool

Yes, Thanks, I did get the fire/ice idea from you, I don't copy decks, I was playing a very very similar decklists that ran mystical, tinker, and that creature config since SCG tourney, anyone who knows me can contest to this.  I didn't netdeck your deck, but you did give the idea of fire/ice mainboard, so props to that.

@ ELD.... Yes, he was at 5, he duped one of my juggs, leaving him with only dupe, I duped his dupe, and my other jug swung in for 5, aka his life total.

Dante had to go call me out.   Smile

Nah, I was just being a bit sarcastic.  I do mean congrats on the win.  I love seeing any kind of aggro doing well.

I certainly can't accuse you of netdecking, as there are some significant differences in our decks, and I can see your personal touch in your list.

And although you don't copy decks, I have no qualms about it.  If I see a list that I like out there, I will copy it no questions asked.  Call me out if you ever see me not giving credit though, since I do try.

How was the FoF for you?  I found it to be a bit unwieldy at times.

the only real questionable card in the deck was maybe wheel of fortune, while the card is great, I found it to be a little too situational, finding myself never wanting to give the opponent a new hand, because I am in better position. I have to re-evaluate, see if there is anything better to put in it's place.

Fact was right behind on the "if I were to cut anything" list, but it's a really powerful and it's such a tempo swinger, and we all know how ridiculous it is with goblin welder out.  I did like it alot this past weekend, I like the extra draw spell in the deck, and opponents always have a tough time seperating the cards.  The only problem I sometimes have with it is I occasionally have it in hand, but have something better to cast, but the topdeck of FoF is amazing.

EDIT: Thorme I hooked ya up in the report Smile

then I apologize.

In your sideboard, with the 2 Crypts 2 Chalice, obviously you added the 5 red blasts against the increase in mono-blue (good call), but do you think the 2 Chalices are worth it as just a 2-of?  At least with the Crypts, you have tinker (and mystical/Tinker) to get them out, but you can't do that with the Chalices (unless you want them for zero and you probably want them for 1 moreso than not).

i don't get this
the way you guys talk, it seems like anyone who independently came up with a good idea becomes a netdecker?
it's a one, two card difference and suddenly it becomes intellectual property
i swear, you guys are getting as bad as smmenen

The chalices were in there for more combo, 0 or 1, It wouldn't matter if I can't cast mystical tutor/goblin welder against combo, if it's out for 1 it cripples TPS like no other, and most of the time I could just drop it for 0, it just increases my odds of drawing rather a chalice or a 3sphere against combo.
