This cards should be alright in limited, but very good in other formats:

Ziggaurat of Quiacatl
Land

T: Add G or B to your mana pool, you get one poison counter.

Current Wording:

Ziggaurat of Quiacatl
Land

T: Add G or B to your mana pool, use this ability only if you have at least one poison counter.

Would this be part of a cycle, or just a one-off? If it's just one, then make it Legendary (from a flavour standpoint), and perhaps make it give you a mana of any colour, although that wouldn't really fit with our poison counter idea of G/B only.

If it's part of a cycle, then perhaps you could make it painland-like, i.e. you can make a colourless without penalty. Otherwise, I don't know if this would get used; it's too dangerous to use after a while, especially with poison such a big theme.

No need to make it legendary. Quiacatl might have several ziggurats.

I suppose not - just left me wondering what the hell a Zigguarat was.  Confused Sounds more like a name than a title.

Ziggurat is misspelled in both wordings.

combo_dude:
Ziggurat is an old Babylonian word for 'piramid', or rather the same type of piramid the Aztecs used to build. You know, multiple stories of stacked squares. It literally means 'high building'.

Obviously the wording needs to be reworked somewhat into a neat phrase that could actually see print.

A somewhat larger concern is that this card is too good right now. I could use this in a deck that can completely ignore poison for purposes other than making mana. Hell, I could throw in one of those Breath-type cards and get rid of any counters I might have to damage my opponent.

The point is, this card really says:
Land
T: Add B or G. Use this only 9 times.

Very few decks would NEED to use this more than nine times, which makes it strictly superior to Llanwar wastes. This thing is, for all intents and purposes, a Bayou. Some decks could even use the self-poison thing to their advantage which makes it even more ridiculous. We have to ve VERY careful with poison, likle Jacob said. We can add some poison cards, but they HAVE to be strictly worse than existing simile. I see no real way of fixing this. Making it say '2 poison counters' for example wouldn't really help the matter at all, IMO.

I COULD see it as a conditional thing. Kind of like:

Ziggurat of Quiacatl
Land -- Temple
T: Add B or G to your mana pool. Ude this ability only of you have at least X poison counter(s).

...where X needs to be defined but could just as well be 1 for all I care. At least THAt way, you'd have to work in some odd way of poisoning yourself before this makes any mana at all, making it strictly worse than existing lands. I'd go for something like that.

Bram's version is cool.

Possible flavor:

If a drop of your blood doesn't kill a spider, the Temple Guards forbid you to enter.

A land that works better if you're poisoned seems more in flavor with the R/W Horzatl tribe.  A ziggaurat (big pyramid pointing to the sky) is also more in their flavor.

Sanctuary of Horzatl
Land

T: Add R or W to your mana pool, use this ability only if you have at least one poison counter.

I don't think it would be unbalanced to allow this to tap for colorless in any case.

The B/G one should give you poison pointers, something more along the lines of the original card.

Altar of Quiacatl

T: Add G or B to your mana pool, you get two poison counters.
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
