Imaging Management at Western Michigan University. I started out in Paper science and decided I like the printing aspect of the business better. I will basically end up working for a company that does pre-press, or printing and provide color management and graphics related problems in accordance to the type of process that is being run. Great thing about the job is that the demand never goes down. It is always fun to play with the cards and that I have a good comprehension on how they were made.

Right now I'm playing straight up political science at American University in Washington, DC.  I'm only a freshman now, so I'll probably pick up a minor to specialize with along the way.

Quit school and study what you want on your own.  Academics have lost touch.  They are bunch of lazy, intellectually inbred, morons.  Derrida, fed up with the crap of being in the university world just did the lecture circuit the last few years of his life.  Even more extreme, Wittgenstein abandoned all forms of university life and did all sorts of weird jobs (elementary school teacher, steam engine repair, gunner in the army) instead of teaching.  Bottom line: study whatever but don't expect to derive any meaning from it in undergrad or even grad school. They are selling you a bill of goods.  So sell out, study something that is easy and stupid, make some money then say "fuck you!" to the world and go do what you want.

Or be a porn star.

...unless you're doing a science, or engineering, where you actually will do something remotely useful to humanity.  It's not like Maxwell's Equations aren't useful, and it's most certainly not inbred.

I can see how the classics and humanities have been inbred though - our history and political science departments at Case Western were SOOOOOOOOOO bad.

Yeah, unfortunately if you need access to, you know, labs to do research, you need a degree. If you're into physics or engineering or chemistry or biology, you need to do the college bit.

At Miami, the History department is stellar and the Philosophy is above-average. Not everyone can wander the earth and hope to have success and serendipity. You need a good foundation, which you can often get from learning from other people. Not to say that colleges aren't good and messed up, but to completely discount them is to be fallacious and grandoise : )

I think that it is pretty safe to say that college is becoming a foundational degree.  You can hardly get a job without a college degree.  College is today what high school was in the early 50s.

With this expansion and the splintering and specialization of knowledge the ability for college professors in undergrad especially to teach you something meaningful is very, very limited.

So......sell out, do something easy that makes money like management or business.  My roommate had classes three days a week from sophomore year on and he was a business major.  Now he is making fat cash.  Follow that path.  Sell out, otherwise you are kidding yourself.  There is no wisdom, profound insight, or meaningful exploration of ideas in college.  Undergrad is basically high school without parental involvement everyday.

Oh shit.  Wait for the fucking bar.  If you think that the LSAT is hell, what for the first year of law school.  And if that is hell buy an asbestos jacket for that summer that is the bar prep.  You can make though.  The tests are the worst part of law school.  Just remember--law school is not the end objective.  The end objective is being a lawyer.  All that other crap--1L hype, law review, internships and the like are all means to an end.

i was contemplating taking the LSAT's considering a possible career in international law or immigration issues.   I have been hella busy this semester carrying a full credit load + 2 internships + going through sleeping medication withdrawal (i really no longer need it, but the insomnia and panic attacks sux0rs) which has been busting my balls.  however, i was curious how the LSAT was = my older sister has taken it recently and said it was not that bad, but you have to be picky on the details and be a good writer and said it was similar to the test when she took it 10 years ago as a senior at virgnia tech majoring in biology

The LSAT is pretty much like every single other standardized test.  It has no math, but other than that is exactly the SAT but with a slightly increased difficulty.  It is, like all other standardized tests, good at standardizing non-standard objects, but HORRIBLE at predicting anything useful in terms of a career.

See, despite the fact that I'm a History/Political Science major, I'm going into sales after college, just as Mr. Flair suggested.  I've got good friends in the field of medical tech/medical devices sales, and hooo boy can you make money on that shit.

I'm surprised no one here except me is pursuing any kind of art degree. I just started working on my portfolio for admission into the University of Arizona's BFA Technical Direction program. Lots of building sets for plays, taking pictures of them and writing down how they were built.
