SliverKing, Thorme and I (and Ian v 2.0 when he is able) have a regular playtesting and type 4 game every monday night.

The play of the day (from my viewpoint) tonight is easy.  SliverKing had been playing a solid control deck the entire night and was up 3-1-0 in games.  Thorme had been eliminated first in the last game (thanks to me being spiteful and lobbing a Rage and a Searing Wind at him) so he kicked things off w/ a Hypnox, targeting SliverKing w/ the hand removal...so in response I Fissure the Hypnox.

Type 4 is so weird. Type 4 threads are the only ones on these boards where I constistently need to look up what the hell the cards mentioned in it actually do.

[edit] nice play Smile

If I recall, poor SliverKing lost that game on Turn 3 after I swung at him with a Draco that I had Dominated from Triple_S, and then I entwined a Savage Beating.  Draco to the dome for 36.

One debate of the night was my contention that there was no possible way for Triple_S to kill my Plaguebearer with his Quicksilver Elemental.  We got in a loop of him copying plaguebearer's ability, and me plaguing the Elemental in response.

Superstar cards of the night:  my Mischevious Quanar and Memnarch, Triple_S's Burn (Rage and Searing Wind) and Mist Dragon, SliverKing's Indestructables and Whispers of the Muse.

I learned a very important Type 4 lesson last night.

Lose some games.

Going up 3-1-0 is not the hotness.  Doesnt matter how good the deck you drafted is.  you cant beat 2 people at once if they start the game aiming for your face.

Considering Plaguebearer's ability can't target black creatures, I'm pretty sure there is indeed no possible way.

If that wasn't a factor, though (say the Plaguebearer was Purelaced), I believe it's still impossible, unless you were the active player. Non-active player gets the last word in infinitely repeatable actions, so if he were non-active and you were active, he could get the Elemental's ability to resolve and then have a chance to use its new ability.

I believe he was the active player (having just cast the elemental) - although as you pointed out, we all blanked out on the non-black creature clause, so it should have been moot.

Not if you're playing more than 4 games.   I think you had the best deck, but we ended the night at 3-2-2, since Triple_S and I quickly learned to try and keep you in check.

Mischevious Quanar

Why do you play with this guy? In almost all cases he's auto win when he hits the table. Seems unfair.

I have great luck with him...but just ask SliverKing why he doesn't consider him an auto-win.  Invariably, whenever he plays the morphed quanar, the next turn someone casts a wrath-effect  (which there are plenty of in the format).  That's probably the main reason we consider him fair - he's a creature and therefore extremely fragile.

IIRC they use a rule so that you can only Quanar one spell on any given stack.  It turns into Mirari on legs, which isn't bad at all.

It's once per spell, I thought, not once per stack. Although once per stack is a lot fairer, since otherwise he makes all your spells uncounterable.

But yeah, you can't simply go infinite with him.
