i have just started playing TPS with Gifts Ungiven and find myself wondering what the best things to fetch for are in different situations. so lets talk about some possible situations:

assume your hand has like DR, Tendrills and FOW with an untapped underground sea and an untapped Academy with 4 artifacts out (all taped). assume that the Gifts was uncountered obviously.

A : playing against control slaver and they have a hand you have yet to duress

B : playing against 5/3 or workshop with a trini in play

C : playing against dr4gon knowing he will win next turn if he has another turn

here is my current build: (keep in mind its 5proxy cuz i dont have any power yet)
// Mana Sources (24)
3 Island
2 Swamp
2 Underground Sea
1 Tolarian Academy
2 Flooded Strand
4 Fetch
1 Black Lotus (P)
1 Mox Jet (P)
1 Mox Ruby (P)
1 Mox Sapphire (P)
1 Mana Crypt
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mox Diamond
1 Chrome Mox
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring

//Draw (9)
1 Ancestral Recall(P)
4 Brainstorm
1 Frantic Search
1 Gush
1 Necropotence
1 Yawgmoth's Bargain

//Draw7 (2)
1 Time Spiral
1 Memory Jar

//Tutor (6)
1 Tinker
1 Mystical Tutor
2 Gifts Ungiven
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor

//Disruption (11)
1 Chain of Vapors
2 Rebuild
4 Force of Will
4 Duress

//I win (8)
4 Dark Ritual
1 Mind's Desire
1 Yawgmoth's Will
2 Tendrils of Agony

Do you cast the gifts during your turn or is this during the end of turn step off your opponent? (off relevance in the dragon example)

What does your graveyard look like? is it empty or has it all sort off goodies (important for fetching restricted goodies/will)...

What is the board position off your various opponents? does the 5/3 player for instance only has a trini or also a clock out?   (this is minor importance though because you already listed the important things)

If I can get that info I will hopefully be able to answer the question... Wink

lets assume that your graveyard had say Lotus and a dark rit and some card drawing, you cast the gifts during your turn and workshop has a juggie out lets say 2 turn clock left

You have so much mana that I would have cast the gifts end-of-turn if possible.  You still have so much mana, that you could have also cast it during your upkeep to ensure you draw into Yawgmoth's Will (with Mystical, Vampiric, Demonic, Ritual/Ancestral).  You then draw into the Will and go from there (probably tutoring for COV on your moxes).  The only advise I can come up with if you drew into Gifts, had tons of mana and wanted to still try to win this turn is tutoring up bombs such as Bargain, Tinker, Demonic Tutor (for Will), and maybe Desire (although not in your example).

As a general rule, if I don't have enough fuel in the graveyard (fast mana such as lotus, rituals, tutors) to win off a Will, then I fetch mana (lotus, ritual, cabal ritual, lotus petal, academy, mana crypt - or pretty much anything that I can get at least two mana out of).  If I have enough fuel and protection, then I go for the win by getting the tutors for Will.  In other cases, I might try my other bombs or I'd use Gifts to get more bombs first.

There is some key game state information missing that would help, but here are some broad strokes based on what you've provided:

A.  Unless you have to win right frickin' now, I'd say go for Ancestral, Mystical Tutor, Demonic Tutor, and Duress.  Now you're set to go off next turn or shortly thereafter, since you'll  either have Duress and something good to follow up with, or Demonic with a blue card to pitch for Force so you can cast it with backup.  If you have to win right now, (or feel strongly that he can't counter) replace Duress with Rebuild since the first choices just get you handed Ancestral and Duress with no way to fetch Yawgmoth's Will.  This way, you get Demonic and something else and just go off, or you get a topdeck tutor along with Ancestral or Rebuild to put Yawg Will from the top into your hand.  Then you just Will into the win with Rebuild floating around to up your storm count with those four moxen.

B.  Three tutors and Rebuild.  Play an exciting round of "pick up the artifacts," cast the Will that you tutored for, and win.  If you don't get handed Rebuild you can tutor up your other one with another tutor in hand to get Will.

C.  See B above, or the latter part of A.

Having C. Wish in your deck would open up some more cool possibilities, but this is how I think I'd play it with the build that you listed.
