Search and Seizure {U} Sorcery Name a card. Search target opponent's library for a copy of that card and remove it from the game. Until end of turn, you may play that card as though it were in your hand without paying its mana cost. *** I like Acquire and Bribery a great deal, but I think they're also very limited tools. This card, on the other hand, has infinite potential, but is very skill-testing, because it requires you to know with which cards your opponent is playing before you get to go looking. I acknowledge that it's definitely stronger than either Acquire or Bribery, however, so I've given it a mana cost one higher. Part of me really wanted to make this card white, since it has a very strong "police state" flavour to it. Not just the name, but the fact that you have to name the card you want to find (like getting a search warrant.) What do people think of the possibility of costing this at {W}{W} instead?

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

Current Wording:
Search and Seizure {4}{W}{W} Sorcery
You may play Search and Seizure any time you could play an instant if you pay {2} more to play it.
Name a card. Search target opponent's library for a copy of that card and remove it from the game. Until end of turn, you may play it as though it were in your hand without paying its mana cost. (If it has X in its mana cost, X is 0.)

I definitely like this card. White makes a lot of sense though, at least with this name (and it IS a good name).

With two votes for white right out of the gates, I'll make it white, then, unless somebody has some good reason that I should return this to blue.

I would definately bring down the casting cost. Remember that Bribery puts the creature card into play, while this does not let you play the card for free.
For that mana cost I would like to be able to play the card whenever I want, not until end of turn; or being able to play it without paying its mana cost, or at least make it an instant! That way it can be much more useful. Id love to search out for one of my opponents force of wills when in a tight place, or maybe his mind's desire to take advantage of his high storm count... you get the idea.

This does let you play the card without paying its mana cost.

Since this can get spells, and every type of permanent, the higher cost is fine.

Maybe you could use the Rout ability and pay extra to make it an instant - that would make it at least potentially useful on every card in the opponent's deck, including counterspells/misdirection effects.

Heh, I like that idea, Matt. I was thinking that this card would be cool if it were an instant, but I thought that the "fair" price of making it an instant would make it unplayable. Now that you raise the possibility of making it both an instant and a sorcery (at different costs), I think I'll go with that. For starters, I'll assume that is sufficient, as it was with Rout and Ghitu Fire.

Wow! That's awesome! (Who'd have thought I'd be saying that about a white card?)

Don't we need to tack (If it has X in its mana cost, X is 0.) onto the end??
