I agree with J||<3. This should be a 2/1 without haste or a 1/1 with haste. If either of those changes still leaves anybody with qualms about the power level of this card, you could have be:
Whenever Thief of Knowledge deals combat damage to a player, you may discard a card at random. If you do, return target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard to your hand.
OR, weaker still:
Whenever Thief of Knowledge deals combat damage to a player, you may return target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard to your hand, then discard a card at random.

I would like it better as an interesting choice in aggro decks if it were a 2/1 without any other abilities for RR. Then I think it'd both be tournament quality and balanced.

Umm Brownie what are you talking about exactly?
Are you suggesting making this a vanilla 2/1 for RR improves the card and puts it at tournament standards lol. If you are i think you may want re-read the ability and go check out this great card called Grizzly Bears.
As for the card i think its a pretty good idea but do you think it should be instant or sorcery? Red seems to be based more around the sorcery side of spells with Burning Wish Etc. And if you did change this to just sorcery you could probably up his power back up to 2. Just ideas.

Oh dont get me wrong. I dont think that this cant say instant on it. I just think that if you made it sorcery, it may be a little more in flavor. Im mean look at akki lavarunner. He is a 4 cost 1/1 haste that even when he flips probably isnt as good as this guy is regardless of the discard effect.
I will not protest if you guys like this at instant or sorcery i just think at making it sorcery only makes this card a little more realistic.

Im mean look at akki lavarunner. He is a 4 cost 1/1 haste that even when he flips probably isnt as good as this guy is regardless of the discard effect. Akki Lavarunner is a terrible card. It sees zero play in any format (even draft!). We really don't have to worry about making better red creatures, since Wizards printed at least a few dozen better red guys in the same set. |

He isn't rummaging through anybody's brain, though. You aren't looking at your opponent's hand or his deck. In fact, you're not even looking at your opponent's trash. You're digging up a card from your own graveyard -- ie. the trash.
