It cannot cost 2R or 1RR because then it is horrible and strictly worse than any of a large number of land-d spells.

No, because you forget that's an instant. Instant speed Land-D is somewhat nutty.

After looking over the thread and reading the comments, I'll put my (useless) vote behind:

Red Sinkhole version 3
2R
Instant
Destroy target land that was played this turn

But that's off-flavor from the original card which means a mod should either delete all our off-topic messages or lock the thread.

I was talking about the original enchantment version, wasn't that obvious? :/

I like the new version as well, "Landstill" was in a very uncomfortable area in terms of proper mana cost.  One thing I like a lot about it is the ability to bluff.  Since lands always produce mana nowadays this card could be made "useless" if your opponent knows you play it.  But then they aren't using the special abilities on their lands.

I was wondering if a Land that could be played during your opponents main phases could work.  I was reading through the posts and the first thing I thought of was previously mentioned (cannot respond to a land by countering it because playing a land does not pass priority).  I came up with the following:

Unstable ground

Non-Basic land

You may play Unstable ground during your opponents turn.

Tap: add 1 mana to your mana pool.
All spells cost an additional 1 to play.
All lands put into play this turn are removed from the game at end of turn.

(I added the RFG clause because of the potential abuses with CoW)
I do not know if this will retain the original idea behind this post but I wanted to throw in a suggestion I thought was "outside" the box.

That complicates things way more than its worth, I think.  Isn't that really a spell that's faster than instant and not a land, anyway?

Because I was thinking on Opponent Main Phase:

Priority to opponent, play land, tap, cast spell, pass.  You, this.  Did that counter the land or did it serve as a 0 mana instant speed sinkhole and one turn sphere of resistance? :p

That new wording is hot, amazing, hot, video games, and real, real hot.

I'm glad you like it!

So...did we just remake Teferi's Response?

No. Teferi's Response protects your land from a spell or ability that would destroy it. My card destroys your land for using its activated ability.

Also, my card works on fetch lands and Wastelands the same way Stifle does.

24 hour clock on the current wording.

As cool as it would be to have a card named "Card Name" I think a real name is needed Smile  The mechanics of the card are perfect, though!

Damn it, I get so engrossed in the ability that I forget that I haven't named the card yet. Suggestions anyone? I'm going to a tournament today, perhaps inspiration will strike...

Magnetic Eruption

Thousands of tons of molten iron poured from the vent, blighting the landscape and forever warping the ley line beneath.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

It's not bad. And if I can't come up with anything better I'll gladly use it. Anyone else?

I like it, all I'd do is shorten the flavor text to keep it more in line with what the card does as a pre-emptive ability.  How about:

"Molten iron poured from the vent, blighting the landscape and forever warping the ley line beneath."

This is tough. How about:

Abate
Fracture
Inhibit
Nullify
Ruin

(I think this card should follow the verb rule.)

This is as close to coutering a land as we're likely to get. Your new wording seems OK.

Yes, although this one is more modern and mostly better.
