When am I?

View Profile Email
« on: April 17, 2005, 08:30:55 pm »

My study abroad application finally got approved, so I'm going to be in Copenhagen for about 5 weeks this summer, from May 23rd or so to about July 1st.

That means a couple of things:
1. I need to meet european people while I'm there. Will there be any tournaments that I can get to in that time frame? I have no idea what kinds of distances are feasible.

2. Since I'm flying anyway, I can leave a few days early and stop in Richmond for SCG may on the 21st. What airport would that be, and what's the best way to get to Josh's house from said airport?

Any information you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

edit. forgot to link the program: http://www.discopenhagen.org/index.shtml

Why not come a week earlier so you can go to the tournament in Paris on the 14th?

Well, there's ofcourse the monthly Eindhoven but frankly, I doubt that's worth the 1,000-mile round trip from Denmark.

Anyway, I've been looking into air fares for internal flights with budget airlines, and they're pretty low so maybe I could like swing by for the weekend at one point.

To head into town for the May SCG tournament, Richmond International (RIC) is most convienent, but tends to be on the expensive side also.  If you can get a ride from there, flying into Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) is the way to go.

Heehee.

Anyway, I completely misread this thread's title. I read it like:

'Travelling to Europe this summer....and SCG may!' (...travel to Europe.)

So I got all excited, and then I was let down because it wasn't what I hoped for and then I got all excited again coz I might meet Jacob. I'm like a puppy that way.

Haha. Sorry about that Bram.

Shane: Thanks. I'll look into those two options.

@people: I don't know what my schedule is exactly (it looks like they have stuff planned for june 4th and 18th, though), but I'd probably be willing to go on one outrageously long trip if it meant meeting people and a chance to t8 a european event. I assume you guys have trains and stuff that I could take, or would I also have to look into those budget airlines?

If people want to come meet me, that would also be awesome. I'll be sure to bring my t4 stack and the like.

That reminds me:  anyone who wants to trade a non-english card for its english equivalent should let me know. I'll bring my playable stuff (most of which is still english), but if you want me to pick up like random commons or whatever, I can definitely do that too.

Okay, it looks like I might have a few weeks to burn in Europe after my program is over. Toad, I might just take you up on that offer of Franceland, and probably Dutchieland too. This would be from July 1st to about the 18th, although I'll probably take off 5-7 days from either the beginning or the end to spend some time backpacking with my cousin from Copenhagen.

More details to come as I start to finalize plans. Let me know when and where I should go.

Jacob, PT London is at from 8-10 july IIRC. Maybe that's a good opportunity to meet up. I think CF might go there as well Wink

In any case, when you have certainty about your plans, let me know.

I'll be on a festival from June 30th through July 3rd, and have an awad ceremony on July 4th. My gf an me are still in the planning stage of our vacation, but it's gonna be one week and it has to happen somewhere between the 5th and the 24th of july since she's going on a trip with her parents on the 25th.

So I'll likely have time to catch up with you somewhere, but I'm afrain I can't be much help as to when exactly, at this point.

Okay, it looks like I'll be free from about july 1st to the 10th or so. I guess I could spend the first half of that in France, and the second half in Holland, unless there's some compelling reason to switch. Where in dutchieland should I go, and who can I see?

Most of us will most likely be in London during that time for the PT. If you're interested in WW2, there's an extremely large and interesting museum pretty close by (called: Overloon). I took Rich there when he was in the Netherlands, and I think he liked it.

Where in dutchieland should I go?

You can go everywhere, it only takes a day. Razz

All of it is worth a sight, especially Amsterdam, which is a most fascinating city. I also liked Den Haag when I was there, although I can't remember why. Make sure to do a trip to the beautiful coast of the Northern Sea. Climb a lighthouse and see the sea!

While you are there, stop by in one of the superb quaint cafés that the Netherlands are rightfully famous for. (They're called "brown cafés" or something.) If you travel by car (or by bus, if you can open the windows), you can play the exciting game of "Hey Cow!". It works like this:
Everytime you drive by a cow (and you will), roll down the window and scream "Hey Cow!" The person who gets the most cows to look at him/her wins the prize.

This is especially funny if you sit in a coach and the bus driver uses his microphone.

Brown Shop? You mean CoffeeShop? (note to non-dutchies: you usually cannot actually get Coffee in those places. What you _can_ actually get, I'll leave up to your imagination Wink ).

It's just a thought, but if you guys are really going to PT London, then maybe Jacob could go over there. Thing is, you need to be really sure you're going in order for him to plan a trip. Rudy, who of us are going? I can tell you right now I'm not going myself (PT is from 8-10 July).

I will personally be unavailable (and not in Holland) from July 1st through 4th. I'd say any Dutchie who goes to London would be unavailabe July 6th or 7th through 11th. It's unlikely that my vacation with Veere will take place before the 10th.

PT London would mean a lot more travelling just to go somewhere I've already been. Besides, I can probably meet most of the people who are willing to travel to magic tournaments at Gencon or wherever. I'll stick to my franceland first schedule.

@Bram: Jacob already said he wasn't interested in going to London. Also, me and Pyro have been talking about going a lot, especially if CF decides to show up. He's cool Very Happy

@Jacob: You don't have to change your schedule. If you arrive at the 6th or 7th, we at least get to meet up, which is probably the most important anyway. Anyway, I think Overloon is really worth visiting, if you're looking to do something cultural apart from walking the red light district and checking out a coffeeshop :p

That's right, I wasn't talking about drugs. Those places are awesome, and exist only in the Netherlands. Best invention ever in terms of places to drink coffee at (or beer, obv.) - you should really start exporting them! Wink

Who knows, if Womprax makes a trip to meet Jacob, I might just join him for the fun of it.
