Today is the 1st anniversary since I started playing Magic again, back from a nearly two year break.  My roommate Chuck wanted to go to Origins last year and I decided that I should start playing Magic again.  On this day last year, I showed up to Pandemonium in Garden City, MI with my extended deck from like 2 years ago (Counterhammer) with Force of Wills and the few pieces of power I owned and got rolled hardcore (my first match was against Mark Biller playing Draw7).  I've come a loooooonng way since then.  Playing Magic again and being part of the community on TMD has been one of the most enjoyable things in my life for the past year and I look forward to many more years to come!

I was at that tournament. Justin playing CounterHammer is funny.

You youngling, you.

Incidentally, today is also the 228th anniversary of the approval by the Continental Congress of the design of your national flag, and the 20th anniversary of the terrorist hijacking of TWA flight 847.

You'll also be interested to know you share a birthday with Boy George. Hooray!

Well, you're 24 and finally starting a life.  How does it feel?

Probably worse than your urge to pop me one right now.....

Much love

Way to hijack a thread. Your birthday is way more pertinent than justin playing magic again. Happy birthday.

So Biller rolls you with combo, and now you're a die-hard storm player.
There's a connection here, but it eludes me at the moment...

Congratulations, by the way, on everyone who had anything relevant to say.  And Bram, who usually doesn't  Razz

I will break into your house while you aren't home and disguise myself as a chair. Then I will leave before you get home, but there will be a place at your table where I was a chair and you will wonder why there isn't a chair there. Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!

Oooh. Yesterday was my birthday too. Not so surprising, given that you need (if memory serves) 23 people to give a better than 50% chance for 2 people to share a birthday, but even so...!

well, there's well over 3000 people on here, so that's lke 8 or 9 people's bday every day. The odds that two active members' bdays coincide are obviously smaller.

Oh, I'm sure you're right. It's just I've only ever found it to be something that happens to other people!

I can't remember high school math!  How does one calculate this problem.

I got it being the 107th person..

There's 364/365 chance that the experiment would continue adding people because they didn't match.

Then you'd do 364/365*(probability that the next person wouldn't match up = 363/365).  This would continue until you reached 50, yes?  Fun!

I love how JDizzle (who does something with math in school) had his anniversary of magic turned into a whacked story problem. Oddly enough, it was also the anniversary of the day I acquired my third piece of power... MOX JET.

Wait, you only had three pieces of power when I first met you?  I didn't know that. I had 3 pieces of power on that date as well.  How ironic.

Now, as for the connection between Biller rolling me with combo and me now being combo's most staunch player, I'm not sure.  I've always loved combo, but I didn't have the cards to build it until last September (which is when I picked up combo again, at Ben's insistence at that).

Today is the 4th anniversary day of this thread.  Congrats and keep up the good work, TMD's most staunch combo player.

Also I wanted to mention that my bunny rabbit is 4 years old today, he has pancakes on his head, much like this thread appears to have.

I picked up all my power in exactly one year... november 15th to november 15th. I remember each trade, purchase and date involving those cards because at the time it was a really big deal to me. Now I am really lax about it... Onelovemachine spilled water on my lotus and I didnt freak out (though I did start posting nude pics of his GF on certain society message boards.) But it was actually my fourth piece... I had a really hacked pearl at that time.

Yeah JD when I met you I had just picked up my 4th piece.

One time our teacher decided to "prove" that little fact, and it turned out that she and I had the same birthday. It was a little strange.

And the way to calculate it is to figure out the odds of no birthdays matching for a given number of people. That means each new person must have a different birthday from all the others, which gets significantly more unlikely with each person you add (it's not a linear progression). For example, there's about a 1% chance of a shared birthday with 3 people, you hit the 5% mark between 6 and 7 people, 10% is at a little over 9 people, 25% is at about 15 people, and you get above 50% with 23 people.
