yawg will becomes almost win more, while balance will decimate an opponent when you are in a losing position

I've discussed the necessity of Yawgmoth's Will in Control Slaver in half a dozen posts, so just do a search for my feelings on the matter.

As for Will vs Balance, Will will let you come from behind for a win much better than Balance.

The object of CS has always been to play your game and do whatever it takes to not care what your opponent is doing.  Will/Demonic say I'll play my game, try and stop me...Balance and STP say, I'm going to stop you from trying to win.
Besides, resolved Balance turns the game into topdeck mode in a deck like CS whereas Will simply wins the game if resolved.

@Xenoben187, Anger: I actually tried Anger when I first put the deck together before I got Time Walk and what I was most impressed with about Anger was the ability to combo out from a position with no welders in play to game over in one turn without yawg will. Something else that was mildly amusing is that during Jar turns new welders can come down to play with Jar.

Why does everyone in this thread think that Monkey is an answer to Chalice for 1?

Gorilla Shaman is bad against Fish decks for the reason you mention implicitly in your question. I think Echoing Truth is a very good answer to Chalice for 0 or 1 - and fish decks rarely cast Chalice for 2.
