He lost his credibility as a human being by cheating. Both by having cards in his lap and stacking his deck with pile shuffling.
How can you not hate his advertisements/petty gimmicks? It's not like he actually plays in any real Vintage events, which is surprising, because he is only allowed to play in non-sanctioned events. The fact that he tries to sell re-hashed decks is hilarious. Mike Long may have stumbled onto something with LED/Wish/Will, but that's about it. It's not like he did (or does) any real testing in the format. It's obvious that he just goldfishes ideas and tries to sell them. Congratulations Mike Long, you finally figured out how Academy Rector works, now try to step into the present metagame.

But his emails make ignoring him kind of hard.
Sample:

After which he goes off on a tangent about how his DVD sets will take your Magic game from your current skill level (his poo) to a far better, manlier level.

Oh, he's the one with a tainted history of "questionable" sportsmanship. I remember reading about him in an Inquest magazine somewhere. As far as his e-mails go, you can't help but read them, because they are so cheesy.

He seriously believes that NOBODY ever thought of Rector/therapy before, and is calling the guy with the hard to spell last name a genious, and says this to the type 1 community "Come on Guys!!! How could you not see this? I mean really? Get your act together!" When I read this there was a mix of anger and humor (mainly humor) at how ignorent people can be. |

There's a thing on his site that allows you to try the site free for 30 days before putting down $7 on it. So if you want to become the misingest tinger out there in Vintage, grab the site for a month and then cancel.

Has he lost credibility by using his card-selling gimmicks or putting out poor decklists as his own creations? Well, coming off as a used car salesman certainly isn't helping his image. Most people started disliking him years ago, however, due to some well documented incidents of cheating. He's done it on multiple occasions, so even if he only did it the handful of times he was caught (Google "Cadaverous Bloom" and "Lap") it still brings into doubt all his other accomplishments. Several top level Magic players have been caught cheating over the years, but no one has ever been so blatant and unapologetic about it as Long. |

Apparently Mike Long didn't read my Origins report to discover that there is already a deck that pulls off plenty of turn 2 kills by itself. Also, he must have missed Meandeck Tendrils and completely unaware of the existance of 2land Belcher.
its funny that there is so much aggressive bitterness towards mike long. and yeah there are plenty of decks that fire quick, but who really plays them? One guy in michigan and one guy posting amazing stuff about deathlong on the drain? I think its crazy that people instantly rule things out because they came from mike long. I have this vague memory of steve menendian having suicide virus built at the first star city chicago and saying alot of good stuff about it himself, even if he played doomsday instead. I have not taken the time to look at the list, but I dont think we should immediately thrash it on the premise of its origin. I happen to like mike long. |

I have not taken the time to look at the list, but I dont think we should immediately thrash it on the premise of its origin Maybe we are thrashing it because the deck has been around for almost 2 years and it still sucks-but only suckier with LIVING WISH. Claiming it will get cards restricted and banned just makes it worse. |
