Gencon is fast approaching, and the only real gencon topic is on the members only forum so I thought there should be a place to discuss Gencon with those who lack the mental capacity or the will to take the long TMD membership test.

Are you going to Gencon? and if so who are you going with?

What events are you going to play in?
(Legacy champs, Midnight T1, Vintage champs (odv), etc.)?

Predictions/trashtalk?

Discuss

I'm not going.  GenCon is solely to hang out with people, since the prize support is shit.  Most of the people I want to hang out with aren't going.  Those who are going, I either live close enough to that I see them regularly anyway, or I get to hang out with at events like Richmond, Rochester, or Waterbury.

Afaik, only the ppl who won the trip and byes at Paris are gonna be there. You 'might' have a chance of a few more, but the rest isn't gonna show up, it's just not interesting enough to go there, unfortunately.

We figured we had to go there at least once. Once is probably all it's gonna be though. The visit to the Canadians was kinda 'planned' and going to Gencon was a nice bonus. in 2003, Shockwave joined us for Worlds in Berlin..might as well return the favor Smile

There is a remote chance I might show up at the TMD Open in October..nothing sure yet though, all depends on workload, cost of the trip etc.

I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was.  I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury.  I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"

The entry fee isn't the most costly aspect of that trip though, unfortunately Sad

JDizzle will be up in the hizzle.

I plan on T8ing this year and winning at least 17 other tournaments.  Needless to say, there will be much mad comboing out on the first turn and there's nothing you can do about it.  Dr. Doom will also be there, and if you surrender to Doom, I'll promise you a quick and merciful death.

I will be there.  Playing in the Legacy Champs, Legacy 500 and oddly enough the 2 Headed Giant Championship.  Other than that it's time off from work, so it'l be good either way.

Who is on your team these days?  I've been in VA the entire summer, so I'm a bit out of the loop.  Have there been any additions to the Vintage Avant-Garde?

Mark is retired for the moment, but still official member of the Avant-Garde, and Josh Franklin has taken an active role on the team.  I am pretty sure onelovemachine will be going with me to GenCon this summer.

I will be in attendance, and am bringing a bunch of people to stay at my hotel with me:

My Hotel currently includes:

Me
Ray Robiliard (IamFishman)
Andy Probasco (Brassman)
Scott Limoges (Lover of all things GAT)
Bob ___ (Clown of Tresserhorn)
Scott Mirtsopoulous (Lover of "Probasco's Sexieness" aka SSB (I hope))

Tournements to be in are odviously Vintage/Legacy World Championships, but attending as many as possible (without being to exhausted for main event is the goal).

Hope to see everyone there (and meet people I may have not met yet JDizzle etc.),

My hotel is the Motel 6,  5151 Elmwood Ave, Indianapolis.  It's off 465 at Exit #52.  Anyone who's saying there or very close to it should like PM, AIM, or find me on IRC to hang out around there, and trade amazing foil cards.  Or amazing nonfoil cards.  Or just cards in general.  It'll be fun.

The problem is, Brian, you are completely predictable.  It is obvious you are going to play Control Slaver.  Therefore, I will be prepared to beat you.  *I* on the hand, play a new deck at every tournament.

I love how this thread has turned into Michigan vs. Meandeck.  The ironic part is that both terms describe me.  I think I'm gonna make popcorn now. Smile

Rich Shay, Andy Probasco, and several others play same deck all the time, and it appears to me that a quality deck played by an experience player can often overcome opponents preperation. However, properly guessing and preparing for the metagame is perhaps the most advantagous situation that you can put yourself in when entering any tournement.
