Has anyone heard anything about the Thursday tournament?  Did anyone break out any tricks?  Who's there, who's not?  Information please.

from what I remember, most people had so many people packed into a room, there was no room for a laptop...   Sad

as opposed to the SWCCG guys, who bring a laptop into the room and give hourly updates...

Didnt hear anything about the thursday tournament, but I just talked to Clown of Tresserhorn with some news from the Champs Prelims--the tourney for the byes.  Clown is in the finals waiting for the T4 match between fuckin lou(Lou) and Cron to finish.  He said it looks like fuckin lous gonna win, but Im never gonna count out Cron.  If my boy lou pulls through though that'll be an all Colorado finals for those of you keeping score.

EDIT: Its now official, colorado just opened up a can.  Clown of Tresserhorn split w/ fuckin lou in the finals and has the byes tomorrow.   Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy   Much love to both my boys for sackin it up.

Meandeck got slaughtered by the Colorado crew.  That's kind of like losing in the special olympics.

Yeah, I'm calling all you bitches out for next time we meet.

Anyway, update for the world champs:

BrassMan is 2-0 with his own Gifts build.

Field is entirely welder stax and CS apparently, there are more people with 4 welders than without.

I'll post more updates as they come, but Andy had to ship out for pairings so I couldn't get much more out of him.

From My Side...

I am pretty sure ForcefieldYou is 2-0, Windfall is 0-2, and they are both playing Slaver. Try to get in touch with them after this round.

JDizzle is 1-1.

Thats all I got right now.

I dont know the exact number yet, but its only 7 rounds.

EDIT since I just read this:

Yeah, I'm calling all you bitches out for next time we meet.

Lets not ignore the fact that Brassman was also taken out by Bob in the swiss.  So yeah, bring it.

EDIT 2:  Just got a little update from Bob.  He just beat Nick Trudeau of BHWC to go to 3-0.  fuckin lou and limoges drew last round and are still playing in round 3.  He said one of the Italians is doing well with a deck that I'll call an evolution of their T1T and really rewards strong players.  It sounded like most people were still playing so hopefully I'll get a more detailed update later.

well the field is UBER HEAVY on Stax and not much far behind that is SLAVER not that anyone should be surprised.

The Unfortunate Truth is that as round 5 is starting... Jdizzle is 2-2 (scrubbed out.) I have more info but just dont care to share it. How is BrassMan doing?

I'm glad I told him to play Dragon last night.

Cron is out--  BreastMan eliminates him with savage sideboard tech (aka, a pet card of mine he decided to run on a whim)

He should be in, but his track record with drawing and bizarre circumstances in large tournaments is not particularly good.  Here's to hoping.

Also, Roland Chang is in.

I think it was kind of obvious that Dragon was an excellent choice for the metagame (which turned out to be exactly what everybody predicted). Props to people who followed through.

Roland wins after Brassy loses 3 crypt flips in a row.

Congratulations to Roland, but I have to say I feel sorry for Brassy.  He just can't seem to get away from his bad luck. Sad

I've been told that the ridiculously expensive foil gemstone mines are being given out as t8 prizes for the vintage crowd.  I can't confirm it for every event, but I know that brassman did actually acquire one earlier in the week.

It's fairly mundane, if he played what I wanted him to play.  It's most likely within four cards of what I made top four in Richmond with a couple months ago.

1st: Roland with 5c Tangle Wire Stax
2nd: Andy with SSB with 0 welders
3/4: Mat Endress with GWS Oath (with deck primer and tourney report coming soon to a starcitygames.com near you)
3/4 Purple Hat with Dragon
5/8:Ashok with Stax
5/8: Guy on meandeck(?)  playing Tog
5/8: ??? playing CS
5/8: ??? playing CS

There was an episode at the beginning of round 7.  Bob Yu and Andy were 7th and 8th, agreed to ID, then signed the slip-but did not turn it in.  I tell them that that is bad because that means Andy is out for sure, and Bob is probably out unless something amazing happens.  Then they attempt to play it out, but the judges rule that the match is official as soon as the players sign it, not when they turn in the slip.  Andy's tiebreakers get a lot better and is the only 5-1-1 to make top 8, with Bob in 9th.

The field was infinite CS and Stax.  I'd say that at least 60% was one of those 2 decks.

I think it was 128 players, needing 1 more person to make it 8 rounds.

Congrats to all of those who made top 8.  I scrubbed out after making the semis of the Vintage qualifier the night before.

I wasn't expecting anything amazingly different than most Dragon lists, but I love to see how it changes slightly for certain metas. Wink

I think Dragon can be strong against anything if the player uses slots for appropriate cards.

I love Dragon.

The tog player was not a meandeck player, it was michigan's own Josh Franklin, aka Onelovemachine, who I believe I predicted would be in top8 heh. Good job josh.
