Gift of Jade
{2}{W}{W}
Instant

The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to target creature, that damage is dealt to you instead. For each 1 damage dealt to you this way, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature.

***

I doubt that the templating here is exactly what it should be, but the idea is rather difficult to convey within existing templates, so I have cobbled together something from Sivvi's Valor, Story Circle, and Temper. I have costed this the way I did because I figured it needed to cost more than Sivvi's Valor by a significant margin. Of course, I suppose that the alternate casting cost of Sivvi's Valor could be viewed as similarly powerful to this card's boon of +1/+1 counters, which would suggest I could lower this card's cost as low as {2}{W}. I'd definitely like opinions on that. (Critical thinking and math don't come easily at 3 in the morning!) The name of this card is derived from Jade Monolith, which allowed you to redirect damage from your creatures to yourself.

Current Wording:

Gift of Jade
{1}{W}
Instant

The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to target creature, that damage is dealt to you instead. For each 1 damage dealt to you this way, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

This is pretty cool. I'd be tempted to cost it at either 3W or 1WW.

Seems very simlilar to Temper, but probably better. I think since you direct the damage to yourself and not simply prevent it, you could cost it at 1WW. As well, maybe make an aura version costed at WW?

I think that you could cost this a lot less when you compare it to test of faith.

Neppy raises an interesting point. Redirecting (to yourself) all damage from one source doesn't seem particularly more powerful  than preventing the next 3 damage from any source(s). Could this cost as little as {1}{W}?

Generally speaking test of faith is strictly better for 3 damage or less, and still competitive at higher numbers because the life loss will add up.  Test of faith can save a creature from up to 6 damage since the +1/+1 counters are added immediately.

I think you can cost this safely at 1W

I don't think you can get away with that name, as flavorful as it is - Jade is a green rock (afaik) and I just keep re-reading the title and expecting to see a green card.

I like the card a lot though, and yes I think you can get away with costing it as 1W

That right there is enough to persuade me to keep the name. Just because something is coloured green doesn't mean that it's associated with green magic. That is a perspective that I like to keep. It's why I like the new artwork for Mahamoti Djinn (predominently reds and yellows) and Vulshok Sorceror (heavy on the blue.) There's no reason why a white card shouldn't feature a green mineral if the flavour is there in every other regard.
