Ray deserves all the credit in the world for giving us another great Waterbury experience and I was happy as always to participate!  I just want to point out to any idiot that think vintage is dying to legacy..... april waterbury attendance:140ish?  october waterbury attendance:186 ?   I saw so many new people I never had seen before at a type 1 tournament, even day 2 had 70ish people playing!  That is great news and I can't wait to play in the next one.

Also, day 2, september 94 tourney: I got to attack twice with an erg raider ! and then scrub out shortly after ha ha ha

I scouted the Day 2 event and saw ZERO Portal tutor decks, maybe I just missed them.  On the flip side, a deck packing Darkblast, Shadow of Doubt, and Dark Confidant split in the finals.  Well, they split then played it out for bragging rights and such. Eli Kassis defeating Kyle Leith. Oh, there were like 70 something people in that event.

Alright, for everyone who was at Waterbury last night, I want you guys to know that everything is okay. My girlfriend was NOT induced, thank god. She's just got a pretty rough bladder infection.

....

Now we need lists.

Before everyone clammors for lists, it usually takes Ray a good 1/2 week to a week to get the top 16 lists up because he has a lot of misc TD stuff to do and wrap up, in addition to his actual job.  Ray always posts everything, just give him time.

It's funny how everybody gets all hot an' bothered about the Waterbury lists, but the Hadley results STILL haven't been posted and will probably vanish like a popcorn queef in the wind!!

Day 2 Main Event has 76 People and 7 Rounds:

I split in the finals with Eli Kassis who was playing gifts, and an extremely heavy fish board (4 Old Man... Multiple Pyroclasm etc.) However, both are games were very competitive and close with him having the edge in games that were extremely laid back and casual.

Other people who made top 8 included Nate (Jigglypuff), and a few names i forgot (oops)

I played UB fish that I made at 3:00 In the morning, but I guess it was very good. I never read any of the black fish forums, and the only time I did a month ago I said the deck was horrible, and should never be played... I stand by that statement... I will probably right a report sinse I have been asked for my list (ray might be posting them soon).

My list featured some crappy cards like these:
4 Dark Confident
4 Dimir Cutpurse
3 Mesmeric Fiend
3 Withered Wretch
2 Ninja of the Deep Hour
4 Aether Vial
3 Umezawa's Jitte (single handedly helped me wreck 2 workshop aggro matchups)
4 Duress
2 Cabal Therapy
2 Chains of Mephistopheles
4 Standstill
time walk
ancestral
ETC... I dont run FoW lol... Its soooo funny

I also want to congraduate Travis LaPlante on an excellent job winning waterbury! As well as Eli Kassis for being very cool opponent in the finals on day 2.

Well here's my list that scored a 5th - 8th slot.

I will be the first to admit it was shamelessly taken from others.  Or rather the basic list was taking from the two highest finished at the SCG event that Brassman won and I made them have sex with each other to spit out this.  I hate sideboards, so I didn't care that I put a Tundra in it.  My one regret though is having NOTHING against Dragon.  That scared me.

necromancer4285: how did Shadow of Doubt perform for you on Day 2? It certainly looks like the card has promise...

Whatever Works: did you consider running Shadow of Doubt in your U/B Fish build? It seems like it'd be a natural fit in a deck with those colors, and gives you a pseudo-counterspell that doesn't strain your manabase.

I think the nest waterbury is going to be nutz.  I mean comeon Who doesn't want a Mind's Eye on a playmat.  I guess I have to win that Waterbury so we get a Mini Moxmonkey on the next playmat.  Man that would rule.  Very Happy
PS.  I will be running a Baron Sengir as soon as I find a spot for him in CS.  Man if I won those would be some nice Playmats.   MoxMonkeys, Baron Sengirs, and Welders.  What else do you need.

I ran shadow of doubt in the sideboard as a 2 of... It stopped a tinker in 1 game, and stopped a demonic (likely for yawgs will) in another game... Overall, it tends to be narrow because it only hits specific cards. That being said the cards it hits tend to be the only cards that my deck actually cared about.

And if team whatever works was created for sunday then we would have won in landslide... However, I wasnt fortunate to play against real decks on day 1... But instead against RG beats which I had no board for considering i designed the deck to beat staxs/CS/Gifts Mirror.

Yeah, that was my reasoning exactly. Being able to stop various tutors, Gifts, Intuition and even fetching a land seems really strong to me, and gives you 4 additional good disruption spells against control/combo decks. It only seems bad against Workshop decks, so I guess the question is whether or not it's worth running some amount in the maindeck, or if it's strictly SB material...

Congrats to Eli. He beat me in the Top 4 on Day 2. First gifts with force back-up will do that...lol. But anyway, I got an update. After losing to Eli Sunday night, I was waiting for my opponent to see if I got a Chains of Mephistophle or a Grim Tutor. I received a call from my pregnant girlfriend during this wait, in mid-panic because she might have gotten enduced. Thankfully, she did not get induced. SO I bolted for nothing, but I'd rather bolt and not have to, than not bolt and should have. True? But thanks to the Fish Man for a great tourney. I loved the whole weekend. I hope to go next year.

Also, if anybody found a deckbox with a proxied Type 2 deck in it, including 4 signed BOP's, 3 Jitte's, a Overgrown Tomb, 4 Llanowar Wastes and a few other things......It's mine. I lost somewhere between Friday night and Sunday. I would be very thankful if it's found.

I always had mana open for Shadow of Doubt but never drew it. I think the card is spectacular. Blue is already the most powerful color in vintage and now 2 more tutors are Type 1 Legal. Imperial Seal and Personal Tutor. Had i drew the card more often I believe my Gifts matchup would have been a little better. But I believe it will be a 4 of in any metagame hate deck to counter gifts and tinkers and tutors and fetchlands.

I dont think grim long can out run the heavy shop infested chicago....

usually combo beats aggro, but i thing the shops will overcome....

i think stax will probably beat everything but well-played gifts and maybe control slaver....

Anyone goin to chicago?

I did top 16 coverage of Travis laplante v Jared Mann, jiggly puff v Brian Riccaro, Eli Cassis v Crossman, and the finals of crossman v Travis.  I have it all written down and i do not have alot of time to put it up right now with school and what not but I will try my best to get it up this weekend.
