Doubling Season?  Forgotten Ancient?  Monkey Cage?!  Cool points from me probably don't mean a whole lot, but this guy gets many of them.  I'd love to see a report on that one.

Brassman lost in the finals, proving that he really can't actually get first place anywhere ever. Come on, Andy! What's up with that?

That Oath list that apparently won looks pretty sketchy.  Intuitions with no AK?  Best I can figure it was used as a tutor, but when he's not running Imperial Seal, I'd think that'd be better than at least one of them.  Only 2 Chalices seems like a mistake, because you want it first turn.  I won't deny the power of Choke, but is it really worth devoting 6 SB slots to 2 Chokes (I'm assuming the Cities are there to go with the Chokes)?  Spirit of the Night seems like a wasted board slot too, with 2 hasty beaters already maindecked.  Was Pentavus really that much of a concern?

From what I saw, he basically just got really good draws against Andy in games 2 and 3 of their match.

This was an excellent tournament. If more tournaments like this are run, I will make it my business to attend them. It was a very good time.

Also, running Monkey Cage and friends is the best thing I saw all day. Seriously, one game away from top 8... And I am swarmed by seven green 2/2 ape tokens. That made my day.

Congratulations to everyone who made the top 8. Also, I thank everyone who took crocodile beats in stride, especially if it took close to twenty turns for the crocodile to go all the way... Even with island walk...

If you look at Travis' questionable card choices you should notice that tinkering for a darksteel under a monkey's cage is not an option anymore.  Doubling Season + Ancient, Monkey's Cage or Smokestack is amazing.  Yet again my team takes 2nd.  Frown towns.  Congrats to everyone though!

doubling season is the shit!
I didn't get to do much combo with pentavus/doubling season though.  It did win me a game when I played triskelion with it in play, 7/7 triskelion that shoots 6 damage is pretty cool.  My losing streak against brass man continues, someday I'll get the better of him.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention earlier that Greyscale Gharial (1/1 islandwalk for U) singlehandedly killed at least four people over the course of the event.

Wow. That is without a doubt the weirdest combination of engines I've seen in the last couple of weeks, Monkey Cage notwithstanding. This makes me want to jump on the LftL bandwagon...

What a T8. This is at least as weird as Europe.

Ah, let me explain about my "sketchy" Oath build. The first problem is that I built my sideboard on the spot with limited time, I had to throw something together very quickly. In the end I was not satisfied by my choice of sideboard cards (Spiriit of the night was there to fill up space).

As for intuitions: I Only wanted to play one (and even that I did not like very much). I would've played Imperial Seal but I did not have the proxy space.

With the whole "Choke" thing, 4 Cities was far too heavy, but again, my sideboard was made on the spot.

And you are right about Chalices, there should be at least three or very possibly four.

-Greg

Also, props to Travis: I heard many a lament over Monkey Cage  Cool

What a T8. This is at least as weird as Europe.

I, for one, don't really consider the Loam engine weird in my deck...to be honest, it fits in perfectly, under certain circumstances. Depending on what you are playing against and what the board looks like at the time, you can gifts for the Colossus kill, the Tendrils combo kill, or a draw engine that bleeds your opponents counters dry/builds you a hand that makes your opponent sigh in frustration.
As for oath, you can oath the engine into your yard, and draw like crazy as you smash you opponent...he/she's fighting to find something to stop you, while your drawing into answers and/or the back up kill.
There is a tourney next week at Myriad Game that i will be attending, I Might do a double tourney report after that one, i don't know. However i will do a very quick run down of the tourney...
Rd1 vs (forgot your name sir) with JuggernautGo's Waterbury list
2-0
Rd2 vs Kent kolbig with gift with vault/flame...I think (I killed him so fast both games that I'm not exactly sure, but i did see time vault once
2-0
Rd3 vs Chris K with CA
1-1 (the game I lost,I got raped by wheel of fortune with a possessed portal in play...ouch)
Rd4 vs Ollie with gifts Salvager's
2-0
Rd5 vs Jarad Dewick? Demick? with Dragon
2-0
Rd6 vs ??? with ???
Id into the top 8 as the first seed

Quarters vs Greg (aka Zias)
0-2
Honestly, I failed my deck game one, and he ruthlessly crushed me do to my play mistake, and Game two my deck failed me and I got ancestraled out.

Overall my Deck was Wonderful for me...absolutely fantastic. However, to anyone who considers Netdecking this, After I got home I readjusted the mana base slightly, and cut a few cards that were less then stellar for me. After I test the new variation out I'll post something and let people know.

The tourny was awesome, and relaxing and playing Jacob's Type4 during rounds 5 and 6 was a lot of fun.

I lost in the top8 to JuggernautGO's creation.  I didn't get to see any sweet Doubling season action.

I know my Grimlong isn't optimal, since I only had Pearl I would have needed some extra proxies.

ye t4 was definately amazing. Also, the pub down the street had some excellent food, as samite or Chris K could tell you. Cant wait until the next one, if its even half as good it'll be a must go to. Just think, what tournament gets yop8 decklists up minutes after finishing?

I don't think the Life-engine itself is weird. It is just the combination of Life + Oath + Gifts that looked weird to me, because you rarely see three so different engines together. Personally, I want to try the Life engine, too, just on the grounds that it is basically uncounterable draw. Congratulations on the T8 finish, btw! Good job.

 Sir, I reread my post and your first post, and am sorry...my response was rather ambiguous. I was not attempting to imply that you in fact thought that the LftL engine itself was weird, and for that I apologize.

On the Life+Oath+Gifts engine, of all the major control decks, one with both Gifts and Oath,IMO,this is were it fits best. Quick run down
CS- First and formost...it doesn't have the room to fit it in, nor does it need it... in CS, Thirst is much superior.

MD Gifts-once again, no room...if you try to plug it in, you make your deck into a pile of steaming poo...and I have not enjoyed playing with Poo since I was 1-2 years old...what can I say, I no longer big on finger painting(now my kids, they are a different story OMH).

Fish-*raises an eyebrow* I'm allergic to fish so I have nothing to say on the matter.

Brassy-e-poo-Gifty-e-poo- With a little tweaking, I could see it shoved in there, but I don't think it would make the deck sexier, and if Brassy did something "unsexy" he would have to face the righteous wrath of Kowal and Outlaw and a supporting cast of a million Ninjas. Not. Pretty.

In this deck, the three engines together have synergy, dare I say, a humble sort of working man sexy-nas.

To anyone who is heartless enough to not have found the humor contained in this post shall be Ground up and his constituted parts will be sold off for the betterment of the Vintage community (aka the money would be donated to the buy Ashok replacement power because someone was bastage enough to steal another man's hard earned power "end rant").

dave feinstein was supposed to be there, and he dared me to also play with APES at waterbury.  My apes are just way cooler then kird ape...  I know he would have just conceded if we got paired, because monkey cage > kird ape.
