The pairings and standings are being linked as they go online. It's really hard to notice because they're at the bottom of that chart, and they go from black on light blue to dark blue on light blue.

You do realize that Ben Kowal isn't playing, and that Brian Kowal is a completely different person who is actually a semi-famous pro?
Also, a few more people:
Paul Mastriano, the creator of Type 4, is 2-0 Eric Dupuis is 2-0 (ELD) Doug Linn is 2-0 (Hi-val) Eli Kassis is 2-0

Paul Mastriano, Creator of Type 4 won the Trial the night before, so he had 3 byes. More updates when Roland calls me back.

Here's what I got:
Flame Vault at the top tables, in all three forms (Stax, Combo, and Control). Joblins is (predictably) doing well, and Dredgatog is rocking house.
The Vintage notables aren't faring that well. My friend Jason Gaudard seems to be poised to make Day 2, however, and Mike Bomholt is also doing well. Also, note the high concentration of Pros at the top tables. For anyone who said that the tournament would be dominated by the Legacy community, you were wrong.
Oh, and this too: Dave Feinstein beat EDT in round 6.
This just in: Mike Bomholt just lost to Joblins and is now 5-2.

Since Wizards is a bunch of jobbers and didn't bother putting up Round 8... Confirmed that Rich Shay made Day 2. Paul Mastriano, Creator of Type 4, ended up in 65th.

Oh, I knew who he was-I just remember seeing his name at each SCG Chicago usually around the top tables, so I just threw his name out there. I think its interesting that 3 forms of Vault are doing well. Â Guess it it can relate to Welder in Type 1-which type of deck is it best in? Anyone know what decks Type 1 players went with?

I know this:
Paul Mastriano - Control Flame Vault Steve - Control Flame Vault Rich Shay - omitted in case super spy GP goers are reading this and don't already know what Rich has Roland Chang - U/G Madness Ashok - Joblins or No Stick (not even sure on those two) Star Wars Kid - High Tide
Phil: is that your Brian Fisher? I'm not sure how your Brian spells his name (I thought his last name had a 'c' in it).

Somehow instead of "Brian Fisher" the DCI has it down as "Bryan Fischer". No idea how that happened-I'm positive his hand writing sucks ass so I'm assuming when he first registered they mistyped it.
He's playing Goblins or Angel Stompy-he was going to decide on the car ride there. He got his 3 byes with Angel Stompy.
I am never going to hear the end of it from him, being in 1st after round 7...

What did you play?
Is Rich really with Stasis Vault?
Did you see any Storm combo decks?
How large was the playskill gap between Pros and pure Legacy players as seen from the floor (and not from the standings)?
What was the funniest moment of your tournament? What was the most annoying?
Did you see Survival-decks and Togs?

I played a mix between the list that Paul Mastriano top 4ed with at the trial and Rich Shay's list - Rich, Paul, and I brainstormed the night before and came up with a consensus list. I saw only Iggy Pop and Solidarity as the storm decks. The playskill gap was not evident in day one because the pros were not really facing non-pros in a concentrated manner. The funniest moment of the tournament was the death threat to paul mastriano. The most annoying is losing to Tog on turn four when the only spell they played was Tog, but they dredged the Golgari troll thing twice.

Lam Phan made the top 8
Rich Shay ends up 20th
I think I recognize the #1 seed in the top 8, Paul Serignese. I am pretty sure he used to play in all the Waterbury tournaments before they got super-huge. Perhaps someone else can confirm this

They keep misspelling people's names today. They did the same thing at the Legacy champs. Apparently Lam can't play a non-Birdshit deck in any format In other news Fisher lost his last 3 rounds, ending up at 36th place and 17th rated amateur missing both prize structures by a tad

BHWC rep Nick Trudeau (nickvos on here and The Source) finished the Swiss in 27th place with 30 points, piloting our version of ATS, tweaked by Aaron West of BHWC. Yes, ATS. There's no white splash. Nick typically plays 4C Landstill, but audibled into ATS in the last couple of days. Unfortunately, he couldn't get to 33 points (one match win short!) to Top 8. Nick finished tied in the standings with other notable pros such as Osyp Lebedowicz (who Nick lost to earlier, playing Affinity with Jitte and Needle main), Rich Shay (playing the UR StasisFlameVault deck), Anthony Impellizieri, and Gerard Fabiano. I know one of his other losses was to Tom Smart, who finished the Swiss rounds in 8th, and who also won his 3 byes at the trial the night before (playing RW Vial Goblins with StP main and Armageddon in the sideboard). That being said, Nick should be in line for a decent payout, by getting $250 for Top 32'ing, as well as who knows how much for the amateur prizes (anywhere between another $250 to $1500). The final standings of Swiss can be found here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgevent/gpphi05/stand14EDIT: I found out some more info on Nick's lossesNick finished 10-4, and his only losses were to pro Osyp (playing Affinity w/Jitte and Needle main), another pro Ervin Tormos (who was 7th at PT LA, and who was playing Affinity), and two BOTH of the Goblin decks that made Top 8 (Tom Smart, as well as Sonne, who won the whole thing). In our testing our version of ATS had a very strong game against Goblins, especially after board, but Nick said he had to mulligan to 5 in both matches against Goblins, which pretty much directly resulted in him losing those matches.

He had one bye. He would have had more, but Wizards said that eternal ratings wouldn't count towards byes, so he played in a bunch of sanctioned events at Gencon and lost a few crucial ratings points before they reversed their position and made eternal rating relevant again.

The dealers had a million vaults. I don't think they sold many. So finding vaults was not a problem if you were willing to shell out. Goblins was EVERYWHERE. There was no consensus on Vault. People weren't even talking about it much. What happened to Affinity?
Gadiel was playing it and did pretty well. Double post merged. -Matt[/color]
