So, i'm thinking about getting either XM or Sirius for my car.   The radio stations here play the same group of songs and I personally hate CDs...I hate buying them, ripping them, and/or downloading them so this seems like a good choice.  Anyone here have one of these services or have any pesonal experiences with them?

I am a huge fan of XM right now.

I am a news whore, so the talk.news stations are a godsend to me. I also like the comedy stations (although a lot of it can be crappy at times), sports, country, and urban stuff.

I had xm for nearly a year and I borrowed my friends car that had sirius in it, and sirius had like twice as many music stations, as well as all the news and comedy.  Plus, if your a howard stern fan, you can hear his show on sirius now.  I would definitely get sirius>xm

My question is related but more specific. Anyone know if Sirius has good metal stations?

I actually sell Sirius Sattelite Radio, and its a pretty good product actually...

I am not super specific on how good the metal stations are though, I generally only listen at work and we cant be blasting music that will scare away the customers, heh..

THe new portable s50 player is sweet though, its sattelite radio and mp3 player in one unit...pretty sweet, costs around $300 though, heh...

With a better sports lineup and more music channels than XM and with Howard moving over in January Sirius is a much better bet than XM is, XM will need to do something drastic to keep up or they are going to sink...

My friend had a car with XM radio in it that was pretty damn good, until someone broke in and stole it.  As an added insult, they stole a new pair of jeans he left in the car.

XM Radio: endorsed by pantsless carjackers across the nation.

That, and I saw their units at a Sam's Club for $65.  However, I have yet to actually give Sirius a chance.
This is all kind of moot to me, since I get heavy use out of my iPod (my advice: get one of these first), but if I ever do have extra dough to put into my car beyond repairing the totaled front end, I'll probably go with XM.

I will break into your house while you aren't home and disguise myself as a chair. Then I will leave before you get home, but there will be a place at your table where I was a chair and you will wonder why there isn't a chair there. Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!

I have XM radio and really love it.  I just learned the other day I can listen to it on the intraweb as well at no additional cost, so I get tons and tons of use out of it.

Is the Sirius s50 even comparable in support with the iPod?  As in computer programs, customizability, support, downloadable store?  And the biggest question: Does the Sirius s50 come in the exact same shade of gold as my car?

well since you can use any MP3 or WMA file you want on the s50 I think you will be covered, in fact you dont have to stick to Ipod specific crap (I sell Ipods too and they are piles...sorry to burst some peoples bubbles, but they are ass IMO)

Of course you cannot fit 25,000 songs and pictures of yo baby momma, but you get sattelite radio in your pocket instead which is better in most cases...
