For Proxies, should SCG allow people to print a slip of paper in sleeve?

Well, there are cards with identical names, but as far as I know, no onther game has cards that are identical to Magic cards in terms of thickness and size, and certainly no other game has cards with identical backs.

Slips of paper seem like a mistake to me. I used them at one point, and have lost them during a shuffle once or twice. Now I actually turn cards over and use a Sharpie to print the card name and text on the back of the card. As long as you don't use cards that are already played, it seems to work nicely. No confusing art, and you know it's a proxy at a glance.

You write on the back of the card, right? Then you'd get into trouble with semi-translucent sleeves, which are almost all of them, as you could indeed, as you say, tell if it's proxy at a glance (at your deck)

So don't buy the translucent ones. I hate them anyway for just that reason - they're incredibly shitty even for playing nonproxy events, just because you can see the backs.

I didn't know they made translucent sleeves, myself. Wouldn't they make using cards from alpha and beta illegal in events, too?

Yes, Alpha cards are illegal in tournaments unless you find some way to hide their corners. Normally black sleeves are accepted but only if you change them regularly because otherwise it will start to show after a while.

One of the places I played provide high quality proxy created with a printer. It looks really nice and sometimes it just looks real if you don't look at it carefully

Here's what I've done, and what others near me have as well.  It solves both the "what the hell card is that" problem, as well as the "make sure the paper doesn't fall out, and that they're not thicker than the other cards" problem.

Go to the hardware store.  You'll need to pick up some 300+ grit, extra fine sandpaper and masking tape.  When you get home, tape off the picture of your revised/unlimited basic land, and gently sand down the picture until you see it whiten.  Without sanding deeply you can get the whole picture off, and leave yourself a blank canvas to work with.  For non-moxen proxies, you do the same to the text box.  Then, you, or someone else who can draw, draw the picture for the proxied cards in the new picture area.  Time Walk and Ancestral are a pain, but they just have to look decent enough to tell what they are.  Once you do the art and the box, then go about normal proxying (Name, cost, type, etc.)  The result is very professional looking, and shows you take some pride in what you're doing, even if you don't have the actual cards.  I've taken time to color mine in, as well, but that's not really that important as long as the picture is distinguishable.  I've added the extra touch of coloring the borders of my moxen to match the color mana they produce.  I can go into a game knowing my opponent (and I) will know exactly what I have on the table, even if it's a Lotus - Forest edition.

Or you could go to the hardware store and get some papertowel and "goop-off" and just peel crappy foils. If there is any glue left on em, use the goop-off and gently dab it off.  Thats what I do.  Nice clean white surface.
