One Night In Bangkok -- Murray Head (<-- This has been THE song in my head for the last two weeks. Have any of you ever really listened to that text?)

Kasuras, looks like we're on the same page concerning the music we currently listen to...

Hehe, yeah it does look like that. Smile

Isn't One Night In Bangkok also by Men at Work? (the same guys from Overkill and Land Down Under)

A trick I've been using for quite some time now: look up the album you want to get at amazon.com, and then download all the songs from sources at your disposal. Amazon has about every album out there, and you can look up all the lists there from all albums. Another, more legal, way is to just download all the songs from Apple's iStore, they have all songs there as well.

"One Night in Bangkok" is from the musical "Chess", written by the two dudes from ABBA and Tim Rice. Murray Head is one of the singers from the original cast recording.

My most-listened to lately:

- NIN, "The Downward Spiral"
- Manu Chao, "Clandestino" and "Próxima Estación Esperanza"
- Paul Oakenfold, various live mixes
- Rent, movie soundtrack and original Broadway cast recording
- Nobuo Uematsu, various Final Fantasy soundtracks (mostly VI, VII and X)

Radiohead- the bends, pablo honey, amnesiac
the killers-hot fuss
queens of the stone age- (R)Feel good hit of the summer
the screaming trees- ocean of confusion
lcd soundsystem-self titled(this is some crazy stuff)
beck- midnight vultures, odelay, mellow gold, mutations-pretty much this guy is amazing

My last concert was Les Claypool @ Toad's place in New Haven CT. AMAZING!!!! This guy has some serious musical talent. They had a xylophone player(wtf?) It was crazy...I would recommend seeing them to anyone who likes rock and roll at all....

I've been listening to a ton of the Dresden Dolls.  Specifically the songs Gravity, Bad Habit, and Slide.

I saw them open up for NIN in Toronto. I had no clue who they were before going.  Weird pair, but entertaining nonetheless.  I think the drummer needs ritalin though.

Been there and done that.  I got that stuck in my head last summer when I heard it on XM radio for the first time.  I bought it on iTunes shortly after that.  "The queens we use will not excite you."  What a lyric!!

The Muse. I feel they are similar to early radiohead with more guitars. They were also amazing live.
The Postal Service. Its just dissappointing how all their songs are now in commercials and on TV shows.

Ugh, so true...

When Telepopmusik (a French electro-pop band) sold out to Mitsubishi ("Breathe"), I lost a ton of respect for a band that I really liked. Having music that I consider awesome really gets tainted when it's used to whore some bullshit product. Sad  Like when did Bob Dylan become such a sell-out (ads for Kaiser Permanente, a massive corporate HMO)?! How humiliating. Does he really need the money?

Between the Buried and Me - Alaska

The Red Chord - Clients
Horse the Band - The Mechanical Hand
Horse the Band - R. Borlax (seriously, they wrote a song about a MegaMan boss character. Click on "Cutsman")

Dweezil Zappa - Automatic
the album is just pure instrumental genius, a far superior gutiarist to his father, but just as creative.
Thats a bold statement... Frank wasnt exactly a nobody

In terms of instrumentation, the album is way beyond whatever Frank did with a single guitar.  It's not a shot at Frank, whom I love, but a complement to Dweezil.

I too am sad that every commercial has Postal Service in it, but it's so amazing.  Funny this comes up, actually, I'm listening to Plans right now.  (That is, Death Cab.)

Anyway, I listen to everything on my Itunes, I just put it on shuffle, unless I want the best of the best, where I have a list for that.  I'll give you everything though:

Aerosmith
The Beatles (every song)
Bob Marley
Cake
Coldplay
Cream
CCR (clearwater revival)
Dashboard (only the Weezer Cover - Jamie - I can't stand them normally)
Dave Matthews
David Bowie
Death Cab For Cutie (every song)
The Eagles
Eric Clapton
Iron & Wine
Jack Johnson
Jason Mraz
Jimi Hendrix
Jimmy Eat World
Jimmy Fallon (Idiot Boyfriend and Star Wars Songs are HILARIOUS)
John Williams (gotta love Star Wars music)
The Killers
Led Zeppelin (every song)
Metallica (every song)
Nirvana (every song)
Norah Jones (every song)
Oasis
Outkast
Pink Floyd (all of dark side, and some of the wall)
Postal Service (every song, gotta love death cab)
Queen
R.E.M.
Rick James
The Rolling Stones
Simon and Garfunkel (a TON of Simon and Garfunkel)
Smashing Pumpkins
U2 (a TON of U2)
Weezer (I hate Maladroit and Make Believe, but am in love with blue/pinkerton, green's okay)
White Stripes (only a few songs)

I also have tons of singletons, like Brick by Ben Folds Five, and Piano Man by Billy Joel, etc etc etc.

I listen to more Weezer/Death Cab/Postal Service/Beatles than anything else, but because of the sheer amount of Metallica/Nirvana/Zeppelin I have, they come in too.  They were my big three before I knew about Death Cab (found out about Death Cab about six years ago?  Five?)

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band has currently been on in my room ALOT.

I say 'em live opening for NIN in Denver, and then at the Fox in Boulder six months later. Brian is one of my favorite live drummers. Can't say why, but I'm hooked.

This is my mix of music that can get me on my feet "dancing"

The Bleus Brothers (any)
ACDC (Thunder + a lot of woman)
Frank-Sinatra (any + other bigband stuff in this nature)
Barry White (any)
Gorky (Mia)
Radiohead (Creep)

But when you ask me what I listen to the most, I look deep into my heart and can only find this answer: My wife bitching about where my socks (insert random item I possess) ought not to be.

To everybody who's currently listening to Death Cab, check out Rogue Wave.  They're like Death Cab 6 years ago, and still in that underground mentatlity.  Are you on my side? and Kicking the Heart Out are money baby, money.

Other that a couple new indie bands, I've been listening to a lot of Jazz.  Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and the likes.

Lately I've been listening to lots and lots of R&B and some Indie music. Hot Fuss (The Killers) hasn't left my playlists for months now. That album is so good..

I like all sorts of music, but I HATE (yes, capitalized) Metal. How can you even call that music? It's all about depressed people who shout as hard as they can about how much life sucks, and than go back to their house and commit suicide. Jesus I hate Metal :/

Oh, and I have tons of songs from Atmosphere on my computer. Does anybody know him?

ive got all the various atmosphere cds in my car. Eyedea and abilities firstborn,  and sage francis personal journals...  Midwest hip hop...  I must say aesop is the shit too...

Omg I must be blind. Atmosphere is the shizzle, his lyrics are tight and his beats are awesome. If you like Hiphop or R&B go check him out!

As a rule of thumb, metal is about killing other people, emo is about killing yourself.  And I don't see how you can say this about all metal, as a moderately large portion of it is completely instrumental.

This is a very narrow minded approach to say you hate metal. Saying metal is all about anger and depression is like saying MTG players are geek who never wash. Check ou the lyrics by Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Savage Circus. Sure, some songs are depressing, but most of them tell stories. Sure, some bands talk about depressing stuff and things like that, but it doesn't mean all kinds of metal (power, death, thrash, heavy, grind, black, metalcore and so on) have the same subjects when writing lyrics. Old Ice-T used to be ultra-violent, but since it's not metal, it's OK? Faut être conséquent.

And I could say the same thing about rap, how they are just a bunch of people talking over a dull beat that repeats over and over with no variation. And by saying that, I could be SO wrong. I don't like rap and hip-hop because the music doesn't appeal to me. But I will never bash on that in a forum where different tastes are to be expected.

For the music thing (How can you even call that music?), the same approach is required.,Some people can't stand Mozart. Does that mean the guy didn't compose music? Of course not. He's a musical genius. Cannibal Corpse is music too like it or not. It's a different kind and you're looking for something different than classical when you choose death metal.

this discussion is about what you listen to, not what you hate as this is a never ending "debate".

I've been playing the hell out of every Beulah CD ever made. They all have these amazing different spirits, though the music is still distinctly Beulah.

Handsome Western States - sparse guitar rock dealing with bad romances
When Your Heartstrings Break - Wandering the Wild West, dancing with Southern belles
The Coast Is Never Clear - Watching the sun set on a California beach and realize that you've wasted everything.
Yoko - written when almost everyone in the band was being divorced, it deals with being disappointed and hopeless, while retaining a surprising amount of dignity.

I've also been listening to The Books a lot, as well as Elliott Smith. Oh, and I have been addicted to "Girls" by the Beastie Boys for a while now : )
