I really like 311's cover of Love Song by The Cure
I don't see how.  This is possibly the worst cover I have ever heard.  It takes what is a very emotional and touching song and strips all of the emotion out of it.  The first time I heard the cover I had not yet heard the original (though I knew it was a cover), and yet I could still tell that there while there was probably lots of feeling in the original, 311 had managed to capture none of it.  I don't know whether it's a mark of incompetence or talent to be able to do that, but I do know that I thought this cover was awful before it was even a quarter of the way through.

I agree, The Cure's Lovesong has been covered by 4 different bands/artists (that I've heard), and 311's is the worst of those covers in my opinion.

Umm...okay. I have no idea what makes one song better than the other. I just like 311's version. I'm not really emotionally attached to the song
or anything but compared to some of the other garbage out there (like Limp Bizkit, may they rot in the deepest level of hell Twisted Evil) I think 311's cover of Love Song was at least a tribute to an amazing band and may have exposed younger listeners to The Cure. To be fair I did like Limp
Bizkit's cover of "Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who. I just think everthing else they've done is a pathetic RATM impersonation. The main reason
I like 311 at all is because they were the first concert I went to in Jackson, not because their a particularly "good" band (whatever that means).

Disturbed:  Land of Confusion (genesis)

not sure if this counts but Ripper era JP's live Beyond the Realms of Death recording is so, so much better than the ancient studio version.

Oh, and for hilarity:
William Shatner:  Common People (pulp)

I still think his Tamborine Man cover is his most hilarious.
