It seems that we have a lot of topics of "your favorite ..." now, so I thought we should have one about PC games. My list:

1) Day of the Tentacle
2) Red Alert
3) Baldur's Gate
4) F.E.A.R
5) Eye of the Beholder
6) Transport Tycoon

Seems I like about all genres, although I generally like FPS the least.

Edit: Mods: I'm not sure why all these topics are in the Basic User Community. It feels more something for General Topics, but I just put it here because the other threads are here. Feel free to move though...

No room in the house exceeds a length of twenty-five feet, let alone fifty feet, let alone fifty-six and a half feet, and yet Chad and Daisy's voices are echoing, each call responding with an entirely separate answer. In the living room, Navidson discovers the echoes emanating from a dark, doorless hallway which has appeared out of nowhere in the west wall.

Some of my favorite games are totally out of date, so much that they can't even be played on normal computers anymore. The old stuff is still good, though...

1. Albion (my all-time favorite)
2. Gothic I + II
3. F-14 Fleet Defender
4. Serious Sam -- TSE
5. Command and Conquer -- Tiberian Sun

Among other notables are the Jetfighter series, Black and White, Sim City 2000 and Settlers 1-3. What I'm missing is a current good jetfighter simulator; none of those I ever tried ever matched the beauty of Fleet Defender. Somehow, the ones I tried don't get the mix between realism and fun right; I love complexity and realism, but a simulator needs scalable realism to be attractive, if only to just hop on for a quick 10-minute skirmish.

Oh, and I'd be slightly surprised if WoW does not take top spot...

I actually haven't played many PC games, but I did love Civilization 2 (never played the original) and Myst (although I didn't like Riven much, and never played the rest of the sequels).

1) Neverwinter Nights (So customizable, enjoyable and the replay factor is great.  I've put this game down around 5 times and keep coming back to it.)
2) Battlefield 2
3) Secret of the Silver Blades [SSI Gold box game]
4) Pools of Darkness [another gold box] (these are 2 of the best classic CRPGs out there)
5) Diablo II/LOD(Come on we've all clicked a trillion times playing that game franchise)
6) Half Life 2 (squashed Doom III IMO, totally imersive FPS with incredible graphics)
7) Sentinel World: future magic
8) X-Com

No RTS games up there, though Starcraft and Age of Empires II were the ones I enjoyed the most.  I think RTS gets boring fast, build resources, build army, squash opponent, rinse, repeat... nausea.

Jagged Alliance 2.  The sequel, Unfinished Business, was terrible.
Worms: Armageddon was pretty good, too.

0) Sakura Wars 3: Is Paris Burning? (came out on Dreamcast but got ported to PC)
1) X-COM
2) Master of Orion
3) Fallout 2
4) Heroes of Might and Magic III (my personal ranking of how much I like each of these are III, II, I, IV)
5) Baldur's Gate 2
6) Deus Ex
7) Wing Commander 2 (I got II, III, I.  Haven't gotten to play IV or Prophecy)
8) Sam and Max Hit the Road
9) Knights of the Old Republic
10) Betrayal at Krondor

Yeah, I like RPGs and turn-based strategery.

Which Worms game is everyone's favorite?  I'm partial to Worm 2.

Some of my favorites:

#1 : Diablo II + LoD  - with expansion is the way to go. And anyone that has seen my Barbarian Singer rush people in hell in 1.10 knows why this game is so awesome Very Happy

Close followers:
Elder Scrolls - Morrowind - the sheer vastness and unlimited possibilities of this game are awesome. Also becoming guildmaster of the Thieves, Fighters AND Mage guild is quite neato. The expansions don't add much action though.

Knights of the Old Republic II (this would have been #1 if they actually finished the game instead of going for the Christmass launch Sad) Still an awesome game with cool quests and a high level of pimpness (dual lightsabre Jedi that can just stand still and wait while opponents are gunning themselves down is sweet.)

Vampires, the Masquerades - the number of ways to finish this game (sheer force, sneaking, diplomacy or any combinations of the three) and the cool worked out vampire theme into both quests as playing itself is awesome.

Neverwinter nights + Hordes of the Underdark - again, customizability of your char to the max. Summoning dragons owns. And seeing your level 34 wizard being downgraded to a cleric handing out potions of heal during the endbattle in the expansion is quite funny. Don't waste time on the first expansion though. It sucks.

Heroes of Might and Magic - All 4 are neat, but I liked 1 and 2 best. 1 for the difficulty of it, and 2 for the cool questlines.

Z - Cool worked out game, and one of the hardest games I ever played. Finished all 20 levels though Smile

Warcraft II + Tiges of Darkness - Both the base edition and the expansion are cool. Also, on higher levels the game has an interesting difficulty, forcing you to continue inventing new tricks to combat the enemy. Also, the lack of a "tower limit" is positive in my book.

The Incredible Machine - Old game, but cool nonetheless. Saving Puck the Cat from his cage, making sure mort the mouse reaches his hole or dropping a tennisball in a bucket may sound easy, but this game makes for some cool machinery.

I definately "forgot" some, but I don't want to make the list too long. Yes, I like RPG's and RTS too Smile

At the moment I am waiting for the release of NWN 2, TES - Oblivion and HoMM 5

Warcraft 3
Starcraft--Still waiting for starcraft 2
Mech Warrior 4: Mercenaries--I was really disappointed when microsoft cancelled the Mechwarrior series.

Civ 2 was also amazing, but i never really liked Age of Empires or anything that was practically identical to that. So far I have avoided the MMORPGs like World of Warcraft. I have heard they steal your soul.

3) Secret of the Silver Blades [SSI Gold box game]

That game was fantastic. Ditto for Curse of the Azure Bonds.

Also, much <3 for Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders.

And damn, how could I forget Loom?

On second thought, Loom may be my all-time favorite computer game.

Limbo, man, you're out of date!!! We're up to 1.11 and there are new monsters to conquer.

DII/LOD is by far where most of my computer game time goes.
I play Freecell sometimes.
I also turned my laptop into the worlds most powerful SNES.

I love Mario Kart. So cool.

Sophomore year in undergrad, I got dinner at the dining hall after class ended one Friday evening and then went back to my dorm and installed and started playing Star Control 2.  Before I realized it, it was 3am on Sunday.

Sophomore year in undergrad, I got dinner at the dining hall after class ended one Friday evening and then went back to my dorm and installed and started playing Star Control 2.  Before I realized it, it was 3am on Sunday.

Yah, that game was sweet....I didn't that back in the day with Eye of the Beholder (can't remember if it was 1 or 2) and SC2...my parents though I had gone out without telling them (I had no curfew, but I did need to tell them where I was going) and were pissed - then they realized I had been in the basement for like 36 straight hours (there was a bathroom and fridge down there) in almost complete darkness...not sure which one they were more distraught about, 36 straight hours of gaming or possibly running off somewhere....

I had a bunch of BG2 weekends like that.

Tangent Alert!

Of course I had 9 months of that for poker, but it was real life casinos.  I went from a schedule like this:

Monday - go out with my roommate and his brother.  Split a bottle of Jameson 2-ways, then about 10 beers.
Tuesday - recover, watch TV, read books, play basketball.
Wednesday - go out with guys from work (after lifting weights) until 3am, hopefully hook up (not with the guys from work)
thursday - go out somewhere, home around 3 (to get sleep and prepare for weekend)
Friday - go out after work until 4am.
Saturday - wake up around 1pm, get Pizza watch sports, nap around 4pm, get dinner with buddies and go out around 7.
Sunday - wake up at 1pm and watch sports/football.  Nap.  Eat.  Nap.  Workout/basketball.  Nap.  Stay up til 3 playing video games.  Repeat to Monday.

...to a schedule like this:

Monday - go out with my roommate and his brother.  Split a bottle of Jameson 2-ways, then about 10 beers.
Tuesday - thursday: get to the casino by 7pm, leave around 2am.
Friday - get to the casino by 7:30pm, leave Saturday around 6am.
Saturday - go from Casino to diner, have breakfast, sleep until 2pm.  Get to casino around 5pm.  Stay until Sunday.
Sunday - option 1, stay from Sat night until about 6am.  go from Casino to diner, have breakfast, sleep until 2pm.  Get to casino around 5pm.  Stay until Monday 2am.
          - option 2, stay from Saturday all night and if we were feeling chipper, play straight through until about 8pm, then go home and crash.

then I replaced all that with hooking up with girls, basketball, lifting weights, reading, and video games again (all of them except video games were intermingled).

End Tangent

Baldur's Gate (Most RPG's are quite fun)
Heroes of might and magic III (eventhough the campaigns are way too easy)
Unreal Tournament (both regular and 2k4)

And for LAN:
Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2, we play it all the time when we LAN @ RVS's place. It's just awesome.

Bit offtopic.. what games are easy to learn and fun for LAN's, we need some variation RVS Wink

Oh man I had a time like that.  We had a similar setup in our basement.  During winter break senior year in high school, my parents left to take my brother around to visit colleges, and during that whole week I locked myself down there playing Sid Meier's P1rates!  The difference here was that I was still able to keep track of time, since I would periodically spam people on IM like "Oh man, now I'm up to Wealthy Merchant!  I think I might be able to get all the way to King's Advisor before I have to retire."

Then at the end of the week I realized that I had grown a full beard.

EDIT: Hahahahahaha, I just realized that "p i r a t e s" (without the spaces) gets autofiltered to "ninjas".

hmmm.....basement (think homer simpson).

Actually, the worst thing my parents got mad about (computer related) was the $400 phone bill the first month I discovered 2400 baud modems and BBS's (that's pre-Internet for those of you young-uns).  Apparenetly, we didn't have the unlimited calling pack that I thought we did.   Sad  But we did in the next two days   Very Happy.  A couple guys I knew ran some of the larger p1rate software boards back in the day, so we'd get all the shit free from people in Germany and UK.

Those old games were only like 2-4 disks, which took about an hour each on a 2400 baud modem.  then they started getting big, like 10-15 disks, but 14.4 was out by then.  Then they started going CDs, which were like 40-disk downloads.  Ugh.  Just going to several people's house with a burner was far faster, including the travel.

I don't have a particular ranking, but here are a few that I could think of at the moment. Some of these are just the best members of a really good series.

Half Life I
Homeworld
Starcraft: Brood Wars
Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn
Unreal Tournament 2004
Diablo II

I see that people have been underprivlidged in not getting a chance to play these games, otherwise I'm positive they would have included them in their lists Smile:

System Shock 2
Deus Ex
Thief
Thief II

The first two games are often lauded as two of the best FPS of all time, something that will be very difficult to challenge given that the newest crop of games are geared to be console friendly and cater to an ADD crowd.

Red Alert - Nothing comes close. If anyone here played on case's ladder ranking system I went by the name HawkofWar. I am curious to see if I knew people here from back then.
I enjoyed Civ3, the Chessmaster series, and a few other games here and there but nothing ever captured the magic that Red Alert did.

It seems that I forgot some great old games when I read everyones list.

I played Red Alert days and days until I was sick of exhaustion. Also, people playing Baldur's Gate probably know that you pause with the space bar. After playing 30 something hours straight I decided to go out and have some beers. People at the bar said something I didn't quite understand and my initial reaction was to press space and freeze, so I could take my time to handle the situation... That game cost me a year of university cause I just didn't go to my exams but kept playing.

1) starcraft - i have a feeling with a weeks practice I would still beat most non Korean players (seriously they still have popular sc tourneys there)
2) Diablo 2 ---yeah blizzard and their addicting games. played Hardcore on the servers. Always trying to make the ladder, and only somewhat successful. Once i went hardcore i could never go back. It was a rush, as sad as that is. Diablo one still had the butcher (FRESH MEAT)
3) Hero's of might and magic - I played 2 more then 3 but i love them both.
4) Counterstrike - while still around i remember playing this game for hours.
5) Baulders gate II- there were so many side quests, this game was insanely complex and enjoyable.

honorable mention - worms 2 gotta love the worms

I think I would sell my 4k plus collection of magic just to help design a RTS version of starcraft 2

Civilization 3 (best of the series imo)
Battlefield 2 (so deep)
Raven Shield (only multiplayer)
Shandalar (can't get it to work on XP though :/ )

and honorable mention to

Front Mission (SNES, best turnbased rpg evar)
