I think you should take a Homelands Merchant Scroll and draw an Ancestral Recall/Force of WIll/Mana Drain on the scroll. There isn't enough room on the new art to draw something directly on the scroll, I don't think, maybe you can figure out a way to do it.

If you're looking for ideas a merchant scroll with Force of Will artwork would be hilarious.
It would be funny for 2 seconds. Then I would find it extremely enoying/confusing. I hate alterations that make cards confusing, or in anyway refference other cards that a deck runs, b/c it can be distracting and again... confusing as hell. Kyle L.

I altered an orb of dreams to look like a trinisphere. I played this card in many tournaments w no problem, but once, even though I clearly stated it was dreamball, opponent thought it was really trisphere, and played accordingly for at least several turns. when the confusion was revealed, I suddenly realized this was not cool. thus even if I were to play dreamball in my sideboard again, I wouldnt use that particular card. in future I will avoid altering cards to look suspiciously like others of the same type, if I intend for them to be played in actual tournament decks. nonetheless I like the idea for merchant scroll and will come up with something in that theme, which is not misleading.

I wasn't asking for a change in the artwork completely.
The Homelands Merchant Scroll is rolled out and has a space on the scroll maybe large enough to draw a small card or something. I figured since the Ancestral art can be pretty simple, it would be a good idea, or draw a mana drain squid or something.
Ever tried putting a picture of someone on a card? LIke, maybe Mindslaver or something you could draw in their head and shoulders and make it a full card-size art. Or Ichorid/Ashen Ghoul, you could draw someone in place of the art.
I"m really interested in what good alterations could be made to invitational cards. YOu already did a Solemn Simulacrum, so I'm very interested in Bob, Meddling Mage, and Dimir Cutpurse (yeah yeah).

Vroman, what is the easiest way to remove the background art on a card? I want to do something with serum visions, but I want to keep the picture of the woman on there, just need to remove the background. And make blank space in the text box
Any help, would be greatly appreciated

my technique for that situation is to just take a pencil eraser and be careful. Ive gotten really good at knowing just how to rub the card to erase thin areas. serum visions is expendable practice material. taniquetil - is dimir cutpurse an invitational? I have on my long queue of proxies to be done, a dark confidant with the big fat guy erased and Bob haggling with a Bazaar shop owner in Baghdad. basicaly because I love the confidant+bazaar interaction in Dawn of the Dead

I've got to admit Vroman, that Swords to Plowshares is definitely awesome.
I always enjoy the art that you do where you interpose different Magic Cards onto other ones (Note: Goblin Welder with Uba Mask), this one, etc.
You should do more of them. I also enjoy real-life references, particularly your WWI Tangle Wire, and your Guerrilla Shaman. Excellent work.

Vroman,
How do you do your alterations? I am an artist myself and have huge 6ft Paintings and charcoal drawings in my house. I would like to make some alterations too, but what are you using for a medium on these cards?
I'm guessing you just use a gum eraser on the parts you removed off the card face.

I love the merchant scroll Just wondering why FoW isnt on it? thanks. I could only fit 4 little pictures, and fact or fiction and drain fit the "prize" theme more, since they both give you something when cast.

Spellbook makes a pretty damn good Mox Ruby, or if done correctly, a different looking Black Lotus. (the 7th, 8th, and 9th edition ones only.) I want to try making a Sapphire out of the Exodus version, but the framing is so dark you cant erase very much without making it look dumb. i made a few good proxies in like five minutes out of my wide variety of Sharpies. I made a foil Mox Jet from a Mercadian Masque Swamp, a Mox Emerald from a Crown of Convergence, a Mox Ruby from an IA Mountain, a Sapphire from a miscut Beta Island, I am working on a Revised Mox Pearl with colored in borders, and a Time Walk made out of a Vizzerdrix. I am pro at pimping proxies. EDIT: i just finished an Ancestral out of an Early Frost, an Underground Sea out of a Salt Marsh, and another Ancestral out of an IA Brainstorm for a friend of mine. oh and Froz3nn, you have the worst handwriting i have ever seen in my life. lol

I like how naturally the Dark Ritual becomes a Jet. Especially the gate behind the guy turning into the Jet, and the archway becoming the jewlery itself. On the other hand, a Rubik's Cube will never have 2 center pieces of the same color. Minor nitpick.
