I'm moving to Boston this summer to attend Berklee for the next couple years of my life. Where in Boston does one play Vintage?

Generally, you have to travel a bit, but there's usually a tournament within a reasonable driving distance practically every weekend, with the Waterbury events being the biggest and the best.

w/in a couple of hours drive you have Myriad, Hatch, Samite events, W. Mass events, Waterbury, etc. You can pretty much play 2-3 times a month for power if you want.

Places to play in Boston proper however, meh, dunno.

There is no lack of Magic in New England.

I miss home...but I'll be back this summer.

I would Highly recomend the Beenie Exchange and Myriad Games.  Both are very good competative metagames with awsome players and awsome organizers.   Both shops hold regular (about 2-3 weeks apart) vintage tournements Exchange is typically on Sundays and Myriad on Saturday, not usually the same weekend either.  Typically there are around 30ish players.  Generally its a Mox for first, something good for second (drain, or what not), and a healthy supply of packs for the rest of top 8.

I'm coming from connecticut, so I might be wrong on this, but I would guess from boston its about an hour+ drive to either location.  Well worth the drive for a great event.

Filling the other weekends you have plenty of "random" tourneys around New Hampshire and Rhode Island.  If your willing to drive an hour or so each weekend, you can typically play in a tourny basically every weekend.

Then, of course, Ray runs the best tournments I've ever been to.  Waterbury is a "must go" for any vintage players in New England and New York.

they used to have mox tournaments in brockton (south of boston).  I think they stopped doing those a few months ago, but i'm not completely sure.

when you get into town, PM me if you want somebody to test with.

It's a little over an hour to each, but that's still not bad.  Waterbury is about two hours away.

I remember reading something about YMG starting (restarting?) a Vintage series, but I can't find anything about it now and I may have been mistaken.  They are about two blocks from a subway stop, which is nice if you don't drive.  (And I wouldn't blame you-- the area around Berklee is not the easiest place to park, or to navigate by car.  Depends what your instrument is, though; I wouldn't want to carry a tuba on the T every day.)

I'm not really a Vintage player, but it does seem like the Boston area is one of the easier places to find a game.  I'm actually working on an article right now; one of the sub-themes is the Vintage community in this area.  And it's magus888's fault!  Small world.

I think the Rhode Island YMG store is the one that hosts the Type 1 tournaments.

I've been living in the Boston Area for about 7 years now.  The only type 1 event i've seen that actually took place in the city was at a pre-release.  Everything else has been a far car drive away.

What is the closest store to berklee that sells magic cards?

We here in RI run them. We've just started again after a rather abrupt move.

There is a Your Move Games in Somverville.  It's like 2 blocks from the Red Line.  When I went there, they didn't have too much going on in the Type 1 department...mainly 8000 little kids drafting.

Yeah, YMG Somerville is really not the greatest store, the gaming area is ridiculously small and there's absolutely 0 type I players. Disposable Heroes in Johnston RI on a Friday/Saturday night is probably your best bet as far as running into some Vintage Players.

One of the few Vintage tournaments I ever attended was at YMG Somerville. It was awful....don't go there!

I know this won't happen in a tournament, but if my opponent has Chaos Orb in his hand while I'm controlling his turn from a Mindslaver, who flips the card if I force him to play it and activate it?
