Can this have ANY playability at all? Im thinking something along the lines of using this to drop a darksteel colossus or another artifact bomb. This can also get past counters to drop a smokestack, tangle wire, slaver, or whatnot. Any suggestions?

I don't believe that it holds a candle to Tinker. It's essentially Tinker for twice the cost.

I think by the time you can use this ability, you should be able to cast near anything in stax anyways. Also, the fact that this ability can't be played with workshop mana makes it more expensive in many ways than just dropping the bomb as a hardcast.

The gnomes were seeing play in my very early shop aggro lists, but 4 non-shop mana in one turn, possibly 6, is much harder to get than even 8 shop mana.

Yes, thats true, dropping the gnomes is easy, but getting the 4 mana necessary to use it can be tough sometimes with stax. Thanks for your suggestions!

If you have four mana out already, you've probably in good shape.

I always thought Gnomes had some serious potential, but never got around to testing it. The main problem stopping me was the prevalence of Null Rod, but since it is nearly absent from the meta for the time being, now might be a window of opportunity for Gnomes to see some play. I could see it working nicely with cards like Sundering Titan or Mindslaver.

Thanks for reminding me about this card!

Works well with metalworker. This solves the problem of 4 non-shop mana to activate. Then again if you have an active metalworker you had better be winning... My verdict is unplayable. MAYBE this could see play in Control Slaver. It costs 2 mana to play and it curves very nicely off mana drain into a fatty. Hmmmm?
