My name is Matt Johnson, and I am also a Magic addict.

I am 17 years old and I live in Canton, Illinois.  The scene here is terrible.  It's mostly casual T1, but I drive about 40 minutes to play competitive magic in Creve Coeur, Illinois.  I have played since right before Mirage came out, and I have some decent cards.  The peaks of my collection include Mox Sapphire, Time Walk, 3 Mana Drain, 20ish dual lands (all the blue ones), and random foil/foreign/pimp stuff.

I graduated from high school a year early and I go to a local community college, working towards my Mechanical Engineering degree.

If any of you live in central Illinois, let me know so we can get some play on!

I am David Kleppinger.   I am currently 21, though I expect that to change sometime in July.  I am also an undergraduate in Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, though I expect that to change in May.

I've been a player since the tail end of The Dark, which meant much of my first money was spent on Fallen Empires, which tells you something about how much I like the game as I'm still around.   I took a break from the game starting in fall 2000 as college was sucking away all of my cash, but picked it back up towards the beginning of '03.

I am a control player by choice and by nature, though sick and disgusting combo appeals to me from time to time.  Currently I am returning to my roots, playing a little U/r thing I put together I'm calling The Deck Formerly Known as Urphidian, although I've been known to play Keeper, Rector Tendrils, and Long in the past.  I play at a store called Fun and Games here in Blacksburg, where we do proxy-5 and as a result have a fairly competitive, if relatively small metagame.  I'm not usually a participant, however, as anyone here you ask will tell you I don't have a terribly competitive nature, playing out of love for the game rather than a desire to win.

Other than Magic I enjoy gaming and reading, and have recently been developing an interest in Doctor Who.  I'd elaborate more as I am one of my favorite subjects, but I have a class to get ready for.

My name is Petter, I was born in Norway (hence the name) but have lived in canada (newfounfdland) since I was 3. A friend taught me how to play magic when the Urza block was out. I played casually with some of my friends for a couple of years. I had almost completly quit when I discovered  tournaments. sometime last fall I brought my covetous dragon/wildfire deck to a tournament. (copied from that deck kia budde used to win). I got someone to look at my deck to give me advice and they proceded to haul out 4 black vice and 3 mana vaults. Thats when I learned about restricted cards. A couple of people where nice enough to lend me cards so I could play even though they had never seen me before. Since than I have built several decks  T1 and T2.

I'm in 9th grade and spend a lot of time playing soccer and volleyball.  I have a paper route which helps fund my magic card playing. I'm hoping to go back and visit Norway soon because my parents go back there every now and than for meetings and stuff.

Hello, everyone!

My name is C. L. Nolen and I've been playing Magic for over ten years now. I've always liked to be able to use all my cards I've collected over the years, so Type 1 is the only format for me.

I typically like to play combo decks, right now it's Dragon.

I'm a budget player, as the only P9 I own is Timetwister (which is rarely used anyway). Once I get a job, I'll work on getting powered up!

Don't really get much time to go to tournaments, so most of the time I'm just working on theoretic stuff in my head. Kind of hard to playtest without a group of people, or at least it's not as fun to playtest by yourself.

You can reach me on AIM (and when I'm rarely on IRC at #themanadrain) as Tychoides, but I have people blocked except for those on my buddy list, so if you want to chat drop me a PM here.

Now that you've all struggled and failed at my username(even kowal who has it pretty close) I'll try and give a brief explaination.  it sounds more like "Sigh-two-ple."   Don't even ask how i came up with it, it's been my "SN" for a very long time.   Before this i was "Raif"   I'm not sure where that came from either, i just always liked it.  It was me... or more likely it was who i portray myself as.

My names Richard Kirchner
I live on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and work at "The Gathering" along with Rob the Swordsman.  Along with Roadtrippin, Feanor, and Plainswalker, Injectilio lives here when not at college and other people such as Metamage also live here when not at college.
I started playing Magic in 1996 when i was 10 or 11.  I am now 18 and going to Cape Cod Community College.  I still have yet to decide what i want to do in life 2 semesters in so I'm keeping my options open.

Currently I'm watching "Eyes Wide Shut" which is the strangest Tom Cruise/ Nicole Kidman movie i have ever seen. - Oh oops, i meant to talk about "today" in a figuritive sense.   I've been going out with my girlfriend for 11 months now and its rather strange.  She keeps me away from magic on occassion but its worth it.

I try to play competitively as much as possible but i find myself left out of tournaments i could be playing in because i have to work that day and watch everyone play instead.    I started Competitive Vintage about a year ago, maybe more however i hadn't started coming on TMD regularly since about 4 months before the old forums went down.    So maybe 5 months on TMD?  I could even consider myself a newbie to competitive Type 1 since this is the most comprehensive site based on it i have ever found.    I do however know more cards than most simply because I've been playing for so long and I've been synergetic with decks for forever.

My first "competitive" build was a Red/Blue "anti creature" deck running Aether Storm and Aether Flash.  '01dsk001' 4L.

I'm Always reachable at  zXRaiNeyXz on AIM and don't mind talking to anyone who wants to talk as long as it's not stupidity.

-Rich

Oh PS:   I play a build of B/U/g dragon currently.   I'm a rather janky pilot of it but i learn relatively well. hehe.   I'm always on here so PM's work too.

Hello Y'll,

My name is Dube, actually it's my last name and everyone i know calls me it so, it's my name.  I live in whitewater, wisconsin and am attending the university here.  Whitewater is about 30 to 45 mins. away from madison our beloved capital.  I'm majoring in business mang. and plan on owning my own business some day.  Other interests include; b-ball, guitar, writing (poems, short stories), music (early 90's rock) and women.  My aol handle is blackmindkdc, what a surprise.

Magic history; start playing in 1997 (right before tempest comes out), my first pack is of mirage, i played for a few years then quit and sold everything, Got back into it after a few years this past summer, started playing standard and extended but three months ago relized both formats suck and started checkin out this site.  Vintage seemed really cool so here i am.  I don't own any P9 but am interested in getting some and have the ability to, plus i have a decent collection.

Hey:

My name is Chris Moon, and i from a small town in Midwesterm Ontario, Canada.  I have played MTG and have benn addicted as they say, since I was about 12 years old.

My scene is amongst the most active and competitive from what I gather by reading other posts.  My home town, as well as several other large cities hold frequent events in EVERY format that the game has to offer.  Competitve T1 is my favourite environment in which to compete, and I definetly have some great competition to learn from...including dicemanxx, shockwave, bebe, balzary, and many more too numerous to include in this list.  I wouldnt consider myself to be in the same play skill bracket as most of the people on that list, but am constantly improving.

I am always on the lookout for that "secret" tech that will give me an edge in the ridiculously strong metagame i compete in, and will always have a love for the game.  My current decks I compete with on a regular basis are Dragon and SpoilsMask, depending on what i think the metagame will be more likely to feature.  I hope I can be of assistance (even if its marginal) to anyone and everyone on the site...smity_c@hotmail.com

My name is Ryan, and I'm currently a Comp Sci major at Penn State. I started playing when Fallen Empires and Revised were out, then played up until Visions or so. Later I picked up the game again after my local craptastic card shop decided to start carrying Magic, right around when Masques came out. So, what makes that special you ask? I'm a hardcore Type 1 player who has only missed Alpha - Legends, and Urza Block. Go me.

my name is Hale.  I'm an econ major at williams college in western mass.  I played from fallen empires-stronghold and then started again when a friend convinced me to go to weekly draft with him last spring.  right now I'm playing a lot of TnT.  my friends get pissed when I play combo or lock against them and I like casting lots of stuff so counter magic never really did it for me.  think that's it.

My name is Felipe Budinich I'm 18, and I'm a carboard crack addict  Very Happy

I've been playing since 1996, when there were selling the last revised packs here in Santiago of Chile, I would really enjoy to play more competitive Type 1, but there is no place to play in Chile... (I runned a tournament, but you can read the sad story at the casual forum)

Now I'm about to start my Art studies at "Universidad del Desarrollo" (they offered me such a juicy discount that I just had to say no to the statal universities), some day you will see my expositions in a Art Gallery near you!  Cool

Also I work as a Dj in my spare time and I really like to mix music (maybe if I suck at painting I will be mixing music around the world in Raves), I'm an avid roleplayer and GM (my favorite games are Mage and Vampire, and I'm working in a game of my own design)

well if you are in chile and you wan't to play Type 1, Free-4-All chaos, or just share a beer, you can send me an e-mail to: fbudinich@hotmail.com (well and that is also my msn account)

PD: if you come to chile and you need a touristic guide, contact me and I will show you even better places that those shown on "Wild-On Chile" (don't worry I speak english ten times better than I writte it  Razz )

I started around Apocalypse/Odyssey.  My younger brother got me into Magic; before that, we played Pokemon together and were quite good at it.

There's pretty much no Type 1 scene in Milwaukee--something I'd like to remedy but haven't put much effort into as yet.  I do know of a few other players, some fully powered.  One guy I played against at the Milwaukee Gaming Convention was running Keeper with maindeck Gaea's Blessing, Millstone, and Mind Over Matter.

As for me, I've got the duals, Berserks, Library, Drains, etc.  4 of the 9 power, 1 Bazaar, and no Shops.  Just picked up my 4th Shahrazad, though, so that's pretty cool.

I don't like the new card face, so I don't play with anything printed after Scourge.  No Chalice, Scepter, etc.

Deckwise, I've been running with Zherbus's Keeper build on Apprentice lately.  I cut one of the Decrees for a Recall, which is amusing me, and threw a MisD on the board.  I've also been known to play Il Roche (The Rock, T1 style), Bazaar-Sligh, Madness, and of course my favorite homemade deck, Home-School Expulsion (UWB active control).  In real life I play a lot of casual 5-color.  For serious decks, I have Home-School Expulsion almost complete, except for fetchlands and power.   I also play a fairly vicious Stompy variant and a sort of Academy/Tendrils/Turboland that goldfishes consistently on turn 3.  It's almost unpowered, with just a Twister and a single random Pearl.  And, of course, I have my old favorite, Ankh-Sligh, which needs to be modified.

As far as non-Magic stuff goes, I'm a janitor at the local natural foods co-op.  Oh yeah, and I'm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, and 20 years old.  My name is Benjamin.  I may have met you at GenCon.

My name is Ryan Koralewski and I grew up in Pottstown, PA. There really aren't to many type 1 tournaments in pennsylvania unfortunatly so i mostly play in a scrubby metagame at the local card shop. There are a few competitive type one players who are my best friends so we usually end up seeing top 8 every type 1 tourney. Occasionally a random person will come by playing stax, Tnt, or something though.

Currently i'm a student at Kutztown University, i'm majoring in Communication Design. There really isn't much mtg up here. I've seen a few people playing but they are just casual players. They asked me to play a few times but they dont really enjoy it because I play with competitive type 1 decks. I really wish i could find people to play with up here but unfortunatly I haven't found anyone. So i basically read articles and forums until i'm able to go home on breaks and play magic with my friends.

My name's Adam, and I'm based in Cambridge, UK.  I'm currently in 6th form at school (that translates to being 16), starting to get fed up with it as there as it's an example of evolution in progress from ape to man,  and studying the International Baccalaureate - even though it's essentially French, I'll have to live with that. Oh, the shame...

Hardly any Magic scence, let alone type 1 scene where I am, but still love to follow Vintage developments, especially to combo decks (hence the name, curiously enough). Especially fond of draw-7/storm decks; I really get a kick out of blasting shit into people in the first couple of turns, even if the deck's inconsistent.

If it's relevant, I started playing around 4th Edition, started collecting more regularly around 6th (although it was a truly crap set), and started to netdeck  Smile when Onslaught came out.

Hi there.  My name is Jeff Blyden, and I'm a Computer Programmer for the US Air Force.  I'm currently stationed at Scott AFB, IL, and am 21 years old.  I've been playing magic for about 8 1/2 years now, but only recently started playing for points.  I'm from the St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, so the Magic scene was rather stagnant.  There was Hugo Etienne and Danny Somethingoranother, and they were the only players that I knew of that actually had power while I was growing up.  Enter adulthood.

I did the college thing and recently joined the Air Force.  Now rather than chucking on the beach in shorts, I do it in the snow with cammies.  No worries though.

The scene around here is rather healthy, with a smiggen of T1 going on ever so often.  We draft at the shops in the area 3 - 4 times a week, and do T2 at least once a week.  I'm currently trying to peace together the power9++ (1 Sapphire, 1 Pearl, 1 Lotus, 2 Bazaars, 4 Drains, 1 library, 1 abyss, 1 candelabra acquired so far), so If you got some spare give me a yell.

I also play fighting games (names MvC2, Third Strike, and Alpha 3) and enjoy long walks on the beach Embarassed.  Well, thats about it.  HELLO TMD.

Hi

My name is Hans Henrik Rasmussen and I'm 23. I live in Denmark where I have been studying political science for about 4 years.

I've been playing since Antiquities but had a 2-year break after Homelands came out (wonder why).

I have relied heavily on BD and TMD  in the last years due to a short supply of testing partners but luckily it seems as though the Danish type 1 scene is expanding so things are starting to look up  Very Happy

The last 5 month I've been on an internship in Brussels, Belgium where I was lucky enough to hook up with Carl Devos and so got a chance to go to Dülmen.

My real name is Tony Sculimbrene.  I am 3L or in non-law school terms, in my third year of law school.  I am 26.  I am married and I have been for 5 years.  It is LOTS of fun.  Really.  I am not kidding.  I have an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Philosophy and an MA in Philosophy.  I have played Magic since, oh Antiquities/Legends.  I had a good deal of Vintage stuff but sold it in my sophomore year in college.  I recently started getting Power, AGAIN.  I have been able to get 4 Power in 2 months (Ancestral, Time Walk, Emerald, and Library) through good trading and connections (Samite Healer and J_Orlove wit da hookup!).  I have been incredibly lucky playing with great players and leeching off their knowledge.  I was also fortunate enough to find TMD a while ago and I really like most, if not all the people here.  I have come to not just like the game, or Vintage, but the people that post here.  I am also in Zherbus' debt for making such a great site.  I have written some stuff that I am proud of.  Here are the least unintelligible things I have said about Magic:

DCI Reforms, "A Call for Transparency":

http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/expandnews.php?Article=6184
and part II is here:
http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/expandnews.php?Article=6190

This article, posted just prior to the last series of B&R actions, I think helped change the way they announce actions to the world.  Or maybe not.

Rarities of Staple Cards

http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/expandnews.php?Article=2063

This article got me a record 348 emails in one day, including emails from Brian Kibler, Mike Turian, and other PT luminaries.  And the next day I got even more as Star City ran it as a feature.

Set Design Issues

http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/expandnews.php?Article=3601

Not as ballyhooed as the other two articles, but I got an email from an R&D designer about it and then there was an article about this issue on Wizard's site.

And finally, my proudest web moment:

MaRo's Letter's Article, Part II
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/mr101

And his quote about me:

Quote

Anthony,

I don’t know how many of my readers know who you are (Anthony is a very vocal critic of Wizards of the Coast – and also a very good writer), but getting a letter like this is a real compliment. It takes a big man to write a letter like this. I have impressed you and now you have impressed me. I’d better stop here thought before it gets too sappy.

And there you have it.  My Magic resume.  Now that I have patted myself on my back please feel free to throw up at my ego basking.  I wrote some strategy stuff for SCG, but I realized that I was better as an issue man, if at all.

Shorts:

Deck: GAT
Card: Cunning Wish
Movie: Eraserhead
Book: The Republic
CD: Glenn Gould's Beethoven Sonatas
Site: TMD
Draft Deck:  MMM draft, last week 1/31/04, PASSED: Blinding Beam, Spikeshot, and Bonesplitter, 3 3/2 Haste Guys.  The guy who passed me BB was playing white.

My name is Marc Perez and I a 25 year old real estate agent in the northern most part of Virginia near Washington DC.  I graduated from George Mason University with a B.S. in psychology (girls out number guys 3 to 1 in those classes) back in 2000 and have been in the real world doing a hodge-podge of various odd jobs since then.  Within the last year  however, I finally found my calling and have been prostituting myself in the sales arena (real estate is still sales) ever since.

As some of you already know I have an interesting vintage resume (yes, i'm going to brag now too, thanks Tony for paving the way Smile ).

I am a card carrying member of Team Paragons and Team Short Bus (we'll be taking gencon this year btw) and it is my firm belief that I am one of the greatest vintage magic minds on the planet.

I am creditted with the creation and popularization of both Gay Fish and Gay/r, which have proven to both be very solid decks the world over.

I have won and still win countless tournaments to include major events; 2 of the events held at GenCon Indianapolis 2003 were won by yours truly.

I have been an active member of the mana drain community since its beginning and I don't see myself quitting magic any time soon; i'm here to stay.

But there's so much more to me than just vintage MTG, I enjoy long walks on the beach, working out, and looking at myself in the mirror.  I am looking for someone who's sensative and knows how to have a good time.  If you think you're that special someone, drop me a line  Wink

Well now that it's offically safe to be egotistical...Razz

I'm Shannon O'Meara, one of the few female members of TMD, and a somewhat ravenous supporter of budget decks and budget deckbuilding.

My personal resume is highlighted by Vineyard TnT and Slax, but I'll play W/G Enchantress over either when I think it can win.

If anyone cares, I'm 17 and a high school junior in the US - greater Pittsburgh area. I hope to study music after high school.

hey,

My name is Will Setzer and I am from Hudson WI. I'm 17 years old and I frequently attend Hudson High School. I enjoy swimming, playing chess and of course playing MTG.
I got into magic seriosly a year ago, but befor then I played casually, begging at portal, when a friend of my dad's gave me a box of about 2000 cards none of wich were worth more than 8$.
I am interested in becoming a good type 1 player and obtaining some power, but i have a limited budget. I started with sligh but, right now I am playing WorldgorgerDragon without bazzaars. I have 22 duals and most of the good cheaper cards. Almost no one in my town plays, so I am always finding myself driving to Minnesota to play.
This is my first post ever, so I hope it was productive. I look forward to learning new things from the pro's, hopefully I'll become one myself. I'm open to trade or whatever. My email is will_setzer@yahoo.com.

Name`s Brian. Housewares.

I started playing around Planeshift, and quickly became enamoured with the game. Started playing Vintage about the time The Mana Drain came into existence, some time ago. At the moment Im working on the uber broken combo of Metal Worker and Voltaic Construct.

What else... Well I'm in high school, I'm 17 and have to deal with all the great things life is deciding to throw at me: financial problems, scholarship applications from the blackest pit of doom, horrible job, a malfunctioning vehicle, monotony of life in a shit small town, and last but not least, not getting any. Things other than Magic I'm into: music of all sorts, eventually going to start a band, anime, reading, and sprituality.

But hey, it's all good.   Smile

I was intorduced to Magic in the year 1999 by a lesbian co-worker.
Ever since I've been ignoring everything and everyone for a fix of the
magical cards!.  t:twisted:

I am 28 and a single parent of a 7 year old boy whom I recently taught how to play. Now we both toss the cardboard around.

Hi my name is Earl Tapia

Been playing MTG for about 3.5 years now, Type 1 for about 2.5-3 years.

I play budget, but that's okay because the metagame here sucks my **** it's all a bunch of type 1.5 people, so I play that to sort of keep my skills in check. Also I don't really earn alot, and I like to spend my cash on other things, or things like rising gas prices/going out. One day I'll get around to getting some power...

The only real T1 person I play against is KandyKid (Adrian Dzierzgowski). For some reason, he likes to trade for the most expensive pimped-out cards and build the top tier decks, even though there's noone here to play against. Does he play against himself? I don't know, but it perplexes me how he maintains such a high enthusiasm for the format despite it's obvious lacking here in Vancouver. He's a cool guy and he wants to become a cop (he's taking criminology and intro to policing) so he can deal drugs on the side and make lots of money I forget he briefly mentioned something about that...

I'm 19, second year college (business management) looking to transfer to university, maybe. Depends on marks, $$, and my own interests.

I can snowboard, as can(should) all Canadians. I played piano for 10 years, I've stopped this year to focus on school but I'll eventually get back into it. That's pretty much my skills. I like Trance, Anime, and I have a disturbing knack for finding the most random things on the internet miles ahead of everyone else I know. I'm also good at locating free porn on the internet. I enjoy forums, and I love browsing. Give me a computer with good connection, and I can entertain myself for days on end.

I'm one of the oldest members of themanadrain. I don't know why Zherbus lets me hang around, but I'm eternally grateful to him for letting me do so Smile type 1 and magic in general tends to attract a certain type of person. Seeing as how I spend most of my time in the non-magic/community/humor forums, I'm able to see some of the members when they're not thinking about magic. Some people that come here are intelligent, well rounded, and well educated. I am proud to acquaint(sp?) myself with this group of individuals.

but enough about that for all you ladies wondering YES I AM SINGLE AND LOOKING FOR A FEMALE WITH PULSE

call me

My name's Tank, I'm 19 and, like most of you guys, I'm more or less addicted to playing with pieces of card-board.

I started almost three years ago, just afetr the release of *shudders* Torment.   Anyways, I was on Exchange in Nebraska (cow-tipping is about the only thing apart from Magic I learnt anything about during that year...). Anyways, I pnt  couple hundred bucks on tournaments and cards before summer (10 tournaments, T1 through T2, all played with a quirrel-deck or the starter-deck from the 7th edition starter-set...  Embarassed

Well, that was expensive, but I learned a few hings on the way. I then returned to Denmark and started in a new school (called a gymnasium, and no, we don't have tons of gym-classes Razz). I learned that this town also has some players, so I started playing ehre. I'm a collector, so I started collecting Magic as well and I've managed to get some pretty cool T1 cards like LoA, mana drain and stuff and made a keeper-deck. I play draft every monday and apart from that, I enjoy making weird cookie-decks or controle. I love controle!

Oh yeah, I also dream magic, think magic and write new decklists during classes...

Main favorites and such:

Games: Magic and counter-strike (CS rules if you feel aggressive...)
Books: Terry Goodkinds "Sword of Truth" novels and anything written by Ann McCaffrey
Movies: LOTR-series, definitely!
Food: Lasagne and Buritos- I miss buritos, you can't get them here in Denmark  Sad
Subject: Biology (who can say no to a class where we're only 8 students in the class and have cake at least once a week?)

Hello everybody.  My name is Kyle Krumsky.

Now on to your regularly scheduled program.

Just kidding.  I am 20 years old and attend Penn State Berks around Reading, PA.  I will be graduating with a Mathematical Science (or Business Computer Science to make it easy) major.  I will probably be finishing my career at Penn State Harrisburg instead of State College (sorry Necrologia).

I learned the rules of the game right before Exodus was released, starting playing at Urza's Saga, and started playing formats during Apocalypse.  When Legions was released, I finally started playing Vintage because T2 became far too boring.  I will never regret leaving T2 in the dust.

My playarea is slowly evolving into a Vintage zone.  It's about time too as there are so many shop owners and rich traders and power is EVERYWHERE.  I'm serious; it's all over the place.  It's just not cheap.  Within a year I expect major T1 tournaments to be held here or somewhere close by.

I am a member of LaserQuest (laser tag) Wyomissing as well.  It is a hobby that is rather addicting but not as high priced as paintball can be.  Playing laser tag for six hours straight is just so cool.

Heya.  I'm Jason Hargreaves, live in Aurora, CO and umm...yeah, that's the basics.  I'm 24, work for a security company and play far too much magic.

I started when Dark was released and played up until around weatherlight before quitting, trading off all my power for random store credit at a 'con.  A few friends and I decided we were gonna try the game again about 7 months ago, and we've been hooked since.  I've since bought three collections from old friends who used to play (one of which now is playing again and looking for cards) and have begun to re-aquire some of my past collection.  I primarily play competative T1 with friends and play occasional T2 tournaments at a local store.

I go by Manpriest-CG on WotC, Manpriest on The Source, MotL, and most other websites.

Well, that's bout all there is to it, pretty boring eh?
