Hi, I'm Jim. I started playing Magic casually in Dallas between Legends and Revised, played some tournaments during Fallen Empires and then got on with my life (job, wife, kids, house, etc.). I'm mostly a collector nowadays (same handle on MOTL), but I'm interested in getting back into casual gaming. The only problem is that I now live in Los Alamos, New Mexico, a town of 12,000 people at 7300' and in the middle of nowhere. Anybody out there interested?

Hello folks, I'm Taylor, a Computer Engineering Tech student at Northeast University here in Boston. I played Magic for years back in grade school through High School with a break or two. My first dose of cardboard crack was a starter of Ice Age back in '96 and my major stint in the game was Saga through Masques; with an outbreak for the Apocalypse - Odyssey era and several smaller outbreaks at various prereleases between then and now. I've now jumped back into the game after a several year break, when an old friend busted out his old decks. I was never really all that into Vintage (or Type 1 as we all called it back then), the power cards all seemed threatening and way out of my price range. Extended and limited were my major scenes, with the occasional Standard tourney. But now with all my old favorites rotated out of everything else (and the constant cost of Standard), I've dove into the eternal formats and haven't looked back. After a few weeks of fastidious reading through all the current articles and threads here on the forums, and throughout the rest of the vast interweb. And plenty of time scheming my little schemes here behind the scenes, I'd like to start posting myself! Looking forward to my time here on the boards, cheers. Edit: I forgot to throw it out that those of you in the New England Meta will most likely see me around the local (as local as you can get to Boston at least...) Vintage tourney's, Myriad's and ELD's at the end/beginning of the month! I'll be the one with the Sox hat and glasses with my shiny new GaT deck takin' names!

This would be my introductory post of sorts. I've been playing MTG for about half my life [Fallen Empires was just coming out when I started], and my format of choice is Type One. I play every archetype, but my favourite is control/prison [prison if I'm feeling particularly vicious that day]. You can see pics of me in the most recent Eudemonia Tournament report here: http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=33454.0. I'm the guy in the castro hat with huge plugs playing Webster. I've been lurking on this site for years, and figured it was about time to speak up!

Hey there. I'm Zac from Atlanta. I'm looking to get more involved in Legacy after following it for a number of months. I'm a big fan of decks that aren't in the mainstream, and don't like spending too much money on cards. This usually keeps me from playing the higher powered decks in any given format, but I scrape by with what I have~ I'm a Control player at heart and love Blue.
Whats up TMD?

Hello. I'm Javasci on Magic Online and Ambitious on forums. I play almost exclusively online classic. One of my ambitious is to become a good deckbuilder, but so far all I can do is improve existing decks. Even then, I'm not sure if my changes are improvements or not. I'm currently between decks; I'm moving off an "improvement" of Star-Spangled Slaughter and onto the dredge deck that was posted in the Classic MTGO Forum section of these forums.

Hi,
My name's Christof, nick is Sjapie.
Been playing since The Dark, more intensive since Homelands (how's that possible, ey?). Our group of friends started one of the first magic clubs in Belgium and the club is now the oldest remaining club (Torhout might be considered an exception as they changed their name).
Although I'm more the casual player I do like to make some legacy and Vintage decks. Sometimes I attend a tournament, especially if our club has good contacts with that club is holding one. I absolutely enjoy deckbuilding above other skills needed in magic. In the past I have attended both Legacy tournaments, type 2 (when it was still called that) and Vintage tournaments. I've many times used rogue decks, sometimes with success (as with most rogue decks). I do occasionally bring along a competitieve deck.
I'm currently collecting the power 9 to create a proper Vintage competitieve deck.

Howdy. I'm returning to Magic after a long absence (I played from Fallen Empires up through Mirage, and a little online in Mirrodin block) and I'm hoping to play the newly restarted Hadley Vintage (Type 1 in my mind) tourneys, as well as maybe getting into Type 2.

Hello Everyone, My name Is Alejandro Im from Argentina.
Over here in the southern emisphere things are not very good for a magic player. Cards are three to four times more expensive than in the States, because of the country´s Economic´s policys and the dealers guile. Im mostly a Legacy player, though casual mainly (there are actually no place to play lecagy on a regular basis) I started playing by the time of fifth edition, dropped after seing that sixth edition was lousy, and returned by the times that Mirrodin proved that from time to time, Wizards prints some power.

Curby here, from sunny/rainy/snowy New Mexico. =) I've been playing on and off for years, but haven't done much in the past few years. Turned out they finally made a better Savannah Lion! I'm interested in getting my White Weenie deck back up to speed, though apparently now it uses huge angels. hmph. Red/Green has always been a favorite combo of mine, so I'll be looking there too. See you around on the Casual and Vintage boards!

Well, I've been looking around for some place to start off, and I guess here's the place. My name is Brandt, and I have a problem.....I'm addicted to the cardboard crack that is Magic: the Gathering. It all started about a year and a half ago, I'd buy a booster here and there, and then eventually I caught myself buying power singles, such as Rav duals and the like. I was just recently shown the light that is Vintage, and it is good. My playgroup and I started testing Type 1 decks a few weeks ago, and I was hooked harder then any other format. Um, I think this is pretty good for now, thanks for listening!

Hi! My name is Frederico and I live in the United Kingdom (Maidstone in Kent). I'm Portuguese and I started playing in Portugal the week Alliances came out, in 1996. I used to be fairly active in the days of Beyond Dominia, mostly on the Extended forums and a bit on the Type 1 forum. I signed up for The Mana Drain the first day it went live, back in 2002. I posted a bit, but not as much as I should have. I had a very demanding job back then. I stopped playing in about November 2004 and haven't picked my cards since. I've got a pretty good collection of Vintage cards, pretty much everything useful that came out until November 2004, but no power cards. Looks like I've got a lot of catching up to do.

So I've been around here for a while and just thought I would actually introduce myself.
Hi, I'm Dan. I've been playing magic since about the time of The Dark and Revised. I stopped playing about the time Mirage came out, and I started up once again about the time Oddesey came out. I found myself quickly sucked into the local tournament scene at a small store called BBRI. It was $5 and no proxy, but it was fun. They ended up holding a proxy tournament and I actually had my first taste of true tournament magic and I loved every minute of it. This was about the time Scourge came out. Now as much as I was being sucked into tournaments life intervened for almost two years. My wife had gotten sick and I had to take care of her. I still had a little time to play magic during that time, mostly around the table with my friends. It was a great escape at the time. After all this had passed, sort of...I found myself yearing to once again immerse myself in tournament magic, and soon enough I was playing at BBRI, than I went to a Star City event, and now you can usually catch me at any tournament in and around RI. Any farther and it gets to be too far to travel, unless its over its a P9 event.
Dan

I would like to say that I've been wizard dueling with Magic cards since their original printing. I can't, so that means I have catching up to do. And this seems like a good place to let everyone catch up with me.
A few years ago I was traveling the states, mostly by waving a thumb in the air. Making it back to the north where I was from, I got caught in a blizzard. The wind blew me to the Salvation Army. They had this two week lockdown policy because the majority of people there needed rehabilitation. I needed heat. It was here where I learned the basics of Magic. Being fond of Chess and Pente, I was interested in the strategic / tactical aspects of the game. Yet I didn't care for card games much due to their lack of skill vs chance. This idea was changed for Magic, learning of a card pool large enough to reduce chance. Now chance is that little mysterious part of Magic I enjoy getting happy or mad at. Aw yes. I remember it like it was a few years ago. The kid had a 7th Edition starter game type thing. Two decks, and I got the one with Sword to Plowshare and Armageddon. Fun.
Soon the weather cleared and I was back to stomping around. Magic became a fresh hobby and easy to carry. Time passed and I found myself playing at a local coffee shops, and digging through ten cent common boxes. The thing about building out of a common box is the good cards are few and far between. Usually only one copy or so. Building this way moved me to a play-style known as Highlander. Being restricted gave me more challenge, and every match seemed like a slightly different story. I felt using as many different cards possible while maintaining a balance with a decks goal, I would have the ability not only to find the right key for the right door, but keep my opponent on their toes, guessing. To this day traces of these ideas are in my builds and playing.
Rock’n two dollar decks at local coffee shop tables and tournaments was a good time. Then something happened that changed my magical journey. I lost. Not just the random top decks from hell or an entire field of players gun'n for you. No, I'm talkin about being locked out from being able to play, call game over, and all within the first 4 turns of the match. The deck was Stax. My mind was blown along with my vintage cherry. New interests with the game arose. Primarily the restricted list (what, why, how etc.) and the decks that abuse it.
Time started being spent on reading more than playing. An money saved for stronger cards. At this point the number of cards I wanted to keep got larger, along with my family. So the only sensibly logical thing to do ... Buy a house! Yes, now I can house all the cards and family that fits under one roof. I'll be the first to admit I don't know a thing, (except maybe crazy). But when things come to mind, I say them. I had a lot more I would have liked to speak about.
My many other interests and projects. Chance. "Coffee shop players" Stax The restricted list Past, present, future A-Z but I‘ll get to that some other read. Well that's a glimpse of me. Thanks for reading this far. I'm glad to have found my way to The Mana Drain. Now I have one question
Does anybody have a map?

Hello everyone, my name is Keith and I am another New England area vintage player. I have a few posts up on the forums, and I have been lurking around for quite a while, but never actually threw up an intro post.
I started playing around the time when 4th Edition came out, only very casually at the time. A few years later I moved to Rhode Island and ended up going to school with Brassman, Nefarious, and a few other lesser known Vintage regulars who got me into playing more seriously.
Since I was first introduced to the concept of Welder MUD a good few years ago, Shop decks are the only thing I have played in a competitive sense. I have only been to a handful of events and have yet to make a top 8, but I always just miss.
I recently moved to a much more central location for New England Vintage (Salem, MA), which though it has no apparent vintage scene of its own, is within an hour of Myriad, ELD, and various other events, so I hope to be making an appearance soon.

Ok, I've been on TMD for a while now, so I suppose I should introduce myself.
I am Aaron, and I currently live in Illinois. I used to live in Washington state and that is where I started playing during Masques block.
A friend of mine taught me how to play, and I soon was spending way to much money on this cardboard form of crack. But it was so much fun it was worth it.
After a few months we found a local tourney to play at. We didn't do to bad with our non-powered, jank decks, but thats what everyone was playing. As our tourney experience grew, we thougth we were actually getting pretty good.
Then the new guy showed up playing a deck we hadn't seen. "Illusions of Grandeur?? That card is horrible." Oops, maybe not.
So, we had our first real introduction to Vintage. Of course this only made us start finding ways to beat it, which in turn made us better players.
At this point in time, I don't consider my self a "Great", or even good player. But I can usually hold my own without making to many mistakes.
Thanks for listening.

Figured I would redo this post since I don't know what happened to the last one and interest in Magic is growing.
Name=Ryan Thomas Age=19 Location=Oklahoma City, OK
Strongly grew interest in the game around Mirrodin time. Became interested in playing new formats but settled on Type 1 since I couldn't ask for money to buy new cards. The people I played with had a nice collection they were willing to share. Lived in northern IL at this time.
Began to attend tournaments in the Midwest. Never really made a splash but I did get second at some donkament in Iowa and earned four Force of Wills. I thought this was a big deal for me at the time. Have played with some of type 1's most talented opponents.
Joined USAF in sept 06, now stationed in OKC. I enjoy it a lot, there are a lot of things to do in Oklahoma. I have not found a tournament venue. If anyone knows of any, please let me know.
Have switched mainly to playing poker. Looking to get interested in magic again. I have a lot of good ideas and concepts to bring to the table, always up for a chat on MSN or whatever. I look forward to meeting new faces and greeting old hands here again.

Hey..I'm Tony. I figured I'd get on this sooner or later. I've actually been reading TMD for years (since Mirrordin). Checking out the Primers and such. I totally suck at this game, but have a good time playing it..I'd say I'm a mid-range player...as every tourney I go to..I always end up 3-3. I'm on MWS sometimes. I mostly play vintage and some legacy. If I had more time I'd play T2...but let's face the facts...I'm an old dude! I'm 31, married to a beautiful wife, have an awesome house in Toronto ON Canada..and I work as a photographer full time. I also have a comedy troupe called The Imponderables. I love comedy, comic books, retro video games, and like to screw around with proxies and altered cards when I have time on my hands. If you see me on MWS..let's play!

Hello. I'm just posting here as my first post.
I have played magic for quite a few years now, although location means I attend few tournaments. I have bought cards from as far back as Portal 2, but only seriously started in Kamigawa block. Since 'discovering' the Magic community on the internet, I have been interested in Vintage, but it is only around now that I have even the funds to scrape together essential cards, let alone semi-power. I do play a bit on Apprentice and Netdraft, but most of my playtests are with 100% proxy decks.
Currently buying to build Uba Stax.
Location - United Kingdom (Herts.)

Hello all, Nice to meet you. I'm darby from seattle wa. I played way back in the early 90's, Till somebody dicided magic was evil and made me sell my cards. After playing about with a variety of ccg's (Spent way too much money on that dang pokemon/yugioh) I got a copy of MWS and am back with a vengence. I mostly play casual or proxies and can't afford to buy real cards, for that matter I can't justify spending that much money on cardboard. My friends recently started to lose interest in magic so I'm looking for a new meta. I'm glad to be here as I have already been Inspired and learned a great deal about improving my play, Thanks TMD!
