So I'm a long time poster, but never formally introduced myself. I've been playing Magic for about half my life, I'm 21 and started at the age of 11 I believe. Back then my knowledge of the English language was limited so we made up half the rules. But later on I became more competative.
I study medicine at VU university in Amsterdam, and love it. Lately Magic isn't a top priority, but I think this goes for everyone sooner or later. Girlfriend, school and work just make for a busy schedule and I rarely get a day off (usually just go on for 6 or 7 days a week), so I can't attend to nearly as much tournaments I would like. But we'll see what the future holds.
Anyway, I definately keep posting and play MWS whenever I find the time.
Later, Guus de Waard AKA Mantis. Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Hi all, my name is Mike and I am a recent law school graduate in Sacramento, CA. I started playing Magic in the mid-'90s, mostly casual group games, until I discovered the Magic communities on the Internet. Then I proceeded to play more "serious" decks, eventually playing through the brokenness of the Urza's block, and then quitting for several years around Mercadian Masques. I returned to the game around the time of Ravnica-Time Spiral, drawn in by the coolness of Ravnica block and the nostalgia of Time Spiral. While Time Spiral certainly had its share of nostalgic reprints, I longed to play with old favorites such as Tinker (its restricted now?!). Upon rediscovering a massive box of cards in my closet, I decided to get into Vintage as it seemed like a fun and challenging format in which I could play with my old cards.
Due to the time constraints that legal education imposes, I have only been able to play occasionally in the Vintage tournaments at the local shop in Sacramento (Adventures). I am, however, a frequent reader of TMD, and I decided its about time I introduced myself. So, once again, hello everyone!

Hello. My name is Bryan. I have decided to get into vintage because standard is disgustingly expensive to play successfully, and suprisingly to me, 10 proxy vintage is actually cheaper than standard with the constant rotations and ridiculously expensive chase rares. I still draft, however, and ripping a foil chase rare netted me (through trading of course) my first Force of Will. I am working on assembling a few decks, including 1 Land Belcher, R/G Beats, Next Level Doomsday, and Tyrant Blue, but even though I have many vintage staples, I am having trouble tracking down the Duals/Fetches. I live in the So/Cal area, specifically in the LA area. I am looking to meet up and test with other vintage players in my area, as I cannot travel to nor/cal with any ease. I probably will make an appearance at Dear Mr. Fantasys in the near future, as I believe they are the only place that hosts vintage nearby.

Name's Mitch. I play all formats, prefer type 1 and standard (bizarre combination, I know). I've started to enjoy limited more than I used to. I'm from Saskatchewan, and fully powered since october . I've also recently started playing guitar, and i've been involved in track for about 7 years now.

Hey. I'm new. I'm also having problems posting, in general, so this is kind of a test post. If anyone has any suggestions about why I often don't see the Reply button on many of the topics (ones that aren't labeled as locked) feel free to let me know. Also, how the heck do you change your profile settings?
Oh, and also, I'm a Johnnie who has been playing since Ice Age, but was on a hiatus for a few years (I missed whatever came between Stronghold and Kamigawa). I enjoy prison decks, combo decks made of jank, and long walks on the beach. I like to think of myself as a UW player, but my decks lately have been UR for some reason.

Hello. My real name is Marc and i live in Vancouver, British Columbia. I'm 16 years old and have been playing magic for 10 years now. I got into the game because my father used to play. Unfortunately, he quit shortly after i started. I'm an active member of the Vancouver magic community and i play every format.
Currently i own 2 pieces of power (an Unlimited Recall and Sapphire) and I'm hunting for a good deal for a third.

Hello,
My name is JS, I've been lurking at TMD for about 2 years now. Finally decided to make an account as sometimes it's hard to remember which threads I'm up to date on.
I want to thank everyone for all the effort and thought they put into their posts. The high level of discourse and accountability make TMD a pleasure to read.
I look forward to seeing where the June 2nd changes take the community.

Comming out of my second retierment.. Started with revised, played untill 4th edition and sold my cards (to which i still regret now.. I had a timetwister in there!), started back up during the mirridon/kamagawa block and retired yet again, so i dusted off my card boxes a few weeks ago and decided to get back into the action. With the amount of "old school" cards i run, i'm by necessity and choice a vintage player and look forward to seeing what's going on in the current format ( Brainstorm restricted? ) . I'm also getting involved in Draft games that run in the area as i don't want to spend the money on playing constructed (cards de-value too much when they rotate out). No power here, but i have almost all the classic sub $150 cards in play sets (my dual-lands need to be fleshed out a little more though) I'm a classic blue control player and my choice of decks and card collection reflects this, for example, i just got a play set of mint drains last week.

Hi all. I'm Keith McLaughlin. I used to play a lot of competitive magic, but got busy with graduate school and all that mess.
Now-a-days, I'm mostly interested in casual legacy decks. Playing magic for fun is.... fun! I'm working on a huge gauntlet of semi-casual decks. So far I have: Deadguy Red, Cuneo Blue, Finkula, The Rock, PT Junk, Secret Force, Oppo, WW w/geddon, and MBC. Next up: aggro-loam and GW weenie.

I hope you all understand my English cause it's not my mother language but I'll do my best. I think this forum is a great way to exchange ideas and improve each other decks great. I mainly play legacy but I'm also interested in vintage combo decks (combo is my favourite archetype). Tanks and bye for now

Hi all, My name is Piet (pronounced as Pete) and I hail from Nijmegen, The Netherlands. I started playing back in 1997, around the time Weatherlight hit the shops. My first starter deck (4th edition) contained a Shivan Dragon and a Serra Angel, both of which I traded for far too many useless Craw Wurms and Scaled Wurms (I realized 3 months later) . Played a lot of local (unsanctioned) T1.5 tournaments back in the day and even managed to win some using Counter-Sliver. I love the look and feel of the really "old" Magic cards, such as the ones inluded in the PC game "Shandalar". I think 99% of the cards I own are from the Urza Block or earlier, I took a long break (in buying new cards) after Urza's Destiny (but don't worry, I know what a Tarmogoyf is ). Over the years my interest in MtG has had its ups and downs, but at the moment I'm looking forward to playing some Vintage tournaments for which I'll be doing some background research on this site, amongst others. See you around!

Hey, my name is Tom. I'm married which is awesome. I live in Columbia, Maryland. I play ice hockey in two coed adult leagues with my wife. I've been playing this crazy card game for half my life now on and off depending on my mood (13 of 26 years). I used to play competitive Type II almost every weekend and backed down to just big events while in college. I pretty much stopped seriously playing and collecting after Invasion block, which is when I moved to occasionally playing extended. Once the bulk of my collection rotated out of extended I switched to Legacy and have been primarily there since. Getting more and more into Vintage and have been making a slow effort to acquire power and associated Vintage cards not legal in Legacy. I've played in 2 Star City sponsored events performing as well as you would expect by my noob status. Recently I've been keeping up with the vintage scene much more and actually practicing. I have a penchant for creatureless decks which leads me towards prison, combo, or control decks most of the time. I also tend to play to beat the best deck rather than playing 'the best deck'. My deckbuilding style is what I would call 'pure'. I tend to not include cards in my lists that are situationally valuable. I tend to play a slow cautious style rather than 'going for it', which sometimes pays off and other times doesn't.
Favorite Decks Type II: I took a Creatureless ankh of mishra / Parallax Tide deck to regionals when Fires/Haups/Nether Spirit Control was big and it was awesome Extended: Survival, recur style and a Smokestack / Trinisphere / Geddon deck Legacy: Smokestacks (with humility) and Fetchland Tendrils Vintage: No clear winner here yet, though storm calls me. Currently playing Drain Tendrils

Hey everyone. My name is Eli (pronounced how it's spelled) and I am currently stirring up Standard in Appleton, Wisconsin. I am fairly new to MTG, I started playing when Dissension hit, and I wasn't a serious tournament player until around Future Sight. I am currently still in High school, and I am working on gathering cards for my Vintage u/w Fish deck, and my Legacy IGGy-pop pile. I enjoy playing control, combo, and crazy decks designed to win with obscure cards. (Yay Morselhoarder!) My main pastimes are Magic, D&D, and repairing the technology of those with less knowledge of such things. My favorite color combination is , may Izzet Combo someday take over Extended. Cheers, everyone!

Hi, my name is Tiffany.
I am near 18 years old and I have been playing magic for around 2 years now(vintage is the only real format >:3)
I enjoy being almost always the only girl at the vintage tournaments...and even count to see how many actually show up(usually less than five).

Hey guys,
My name is Kevin and I've been playing since around Revised, although I was so young then that it could hardly be called competitive by any sense of the word. I have retired and come back to Magic several times, trying various formats, but never Vintage, due to the monetary barrier and my overall perception of brokenness in the format. I've recently come back to Magic again full force, and have been trading for playsets of various staples for the first time (before this, I mostly played casually), and would really like to learn more about the Vintage scene, what it takes to become a great Vintage player, and things of that nature. If anyone can point me to good articles (I've read alot of Menendian's articles and lurked around the forums a bit, as well as reading tournament reports and decklists) let me know. I hope to contribute to this forum and the Vintage community as a whole someday.
P.S. I go to the University of Pennsylvania, so if anyone knows anywhere to play Vintage near there or anyone else who goes there, let me know! P.P.S. My hometown is Sacramento, so if anyone's over there, let me know that as well.

Hello, my name is Kevin and I have been addicted to magic since Dissension came out. I started working at Over the Edge games for Stockinger as many know him and accelerated my card knowledge pretty quick while playing with them. I went through a standard phase and then found legacy which I firmly settled down with for a while. After about a year and a half of that I decided to take a swing at vintage. I've played at 3 events so far and have had a blast, but require quiet a bit of practice. I am also going into my 4th year of a computer science degree.

After not having played Magic for a few years, i found myself wanting to play again. I came back here and just started reading about the new metagame, and put together a deck or two. I used to drive up to Binghamton on Saturdays for tourneys and went to a few waterburys, NE champs and any other tourney within a few hours. Just figured I'd say hi and I'm looking forward to getting some practice in and playing in some tournaments. I think people just take extended breaks from this game, never truly quit...
