Hello.
My name is Peter Smutko.
I play in/around Chicago, mostly t2 and ext.  I'd mostly consider myself a PTQ player.  I played in my first vintage tournament yesterday, and split the finals with T(F)K, and finally learned to tell mana crypt and mana vault apart in my head.

Hello,

My name is Jeremy, I'm 24 years old, I live in Mesa, AZ, and I'm relatively new to Vintage. I haven't been playing Vintage very long, only about 2 months, so I'm still learning, but I have been playing Magic on and off since Ice Age. I've only played in one Vintage tournament so far and that was using my friend's U/W Fish deck, which I placed 10th out of 20/21 players. That was also the first time I'd played the deck, so I'm sure I messed up plenty of times. I won't get any better if I don't make mistakes and learn from them, right?

Currently my only deck is TPS, and it will probably stay that way for a while, at least until I can get my hands on some Mana Drains.

My name's Jay Carter and I live in Eastern NC.  I'm a huge soccer fan and I fund my hobbies by being an engineer for the Navy (civilian though so I can't be shipped off to crazy places without wanting to go).  I am a constructed aficionado and spend most of my Magic playing time with Standard and whatever is in season for Qs.  I have only recently started playing Vintage semi-seriously and am still toying with the idea of acquiring cards specific to the format.  More tournaments within 6 or so hours would probably be the push I need.  Seems like a neat format and I'm looking forward to getting further into it.

Hey. I'm Drew. Just got hooked into vintage recently. I realized that playing standard isn't worth my time and money at this point in time, so limited and vintage seem to be the best for me. The first magic pack i bought was Exodus (so i've been around for a while). I have never had the opportunity to play a proper vintage game ever because no one I know plays vintage as well.

I love TPS and I feel it is the most fun magic deck that i have ever played.

Hi everybody, my name is Philip Miles.

I live in London, Ontario, Canada and I have played Magic with some modicum of success and results for 6-7 years.  I only played limited/Standard/Extended for the longest time then 3 years ago I traded all my Standard cards for Vintage and had a blast with that for about a year.  It was fun and the prizes for Vintage in Ontario are always excellent (meaning at the very least a Mox usually)  During this time I literally had ALL the Vintage cards and was enjoying it immensely then I encountered some enormous financial problems and was forced to sell everything.  So for a couple years I was almost completely out of magic aside from a tiny bit of Standard and limited.  Recently I found myself with more time and a little money so I am slowly trying to get back into Legacy/Vintage.
Through all my experience Vintage is by far the most fun format I have ever played!
If anyone is in Ontario add me to MSN philip_miles@hotmail.com and we can chat/trashtalk/whatever about Vintage/Legacy.
On MWS my name is PhillyCheeseSteak so I will hopefully see you soon!!!

Hi people. My name is Andrew, I'm from Montreal. I was a member here many years ago, I think my handle was just phoenix, and I was on MOTL a lot too. I remember some of your handles. Basically I was a T1 player, and I also collected misprints. In the beginning I liked to pimp out my deck, but as time passed I grew disdainful of the merely aesthetic frivolities, hehe. Which is why I've been out of the game since I think the beginning of Mirrodin. As time passed I went through important spiritual and occult stuff IRL, and I did not want to devote the time and money necessary to play magic. I also knew that the more time passed the more it would be difficult to get back into the game.

But I've found myself lately with some time to kill (long story), and I thought I would dip back in, maybe not too deep, and maybe not permanently, but at least a bit. Of course if I get to actually playing it would only be online as I've sold my collection, unless I can find old friends IRL to lend me a deck and I'd split my winnings. I have some general magic theory I want to discuss, I'll be making a post shortly. Anyways I never playtested enough to be 100% serious, or more accurately vice-versa, but I was a solid 96.5% serious about the game. Besides I generally stuck to playing things with Counterspells--way back in the day of BBS--or things with Mana Drains later on, so it wasn't aggro but it wasn't as complicated as some decktypes. I also focused around one particular deck to try and improve and bring to the top level, Urphid, and I think it was underrated, it would beat control by being more conservative and consolidated, and could side in Control Magic against aggro and Blood Moon against combo. But anyways that was a while ago, I barely remember the specifics! hehe

Hey I wonder if anyone from Montreal is on these boards? We had an excellent local T1 scene, back in the day at least, with monthly T1 tournaments and lots of power present. But maybe since lots of those players spoke French better than English, it wouldn't be so efficient for them to post much on English discussion forums.

PS I hear Morphling is dead, very sad.

I'm Jin.  I live in Los Angeles, California.

Used to post a number of years ago.  Got busy with life and work, but I'm back.

Back then I encouraged people to get CE or Collector's Edition cards ASAP.  If you listened to my advice back then and picked up as many CE P9 and duals as possible, then much kudos to you.  My advice was my gift to you.

Hi, first I would like to say, I am from the USA, Alabama to be exact. I have been playing magic since 1993 and been playing Vintage off and on since the creation of types back during Mirage block iirc. I have always been a fan of combo decks and blue control decks. My current favorites are Gro/GAT and Keeper/Tezz/Weismann.

We do not have a great following here for Vintage in Birmingham, the closest place for me to play is Alpharetta, GA. So for the most part I must play online using MWS and magic-league. I currently idle and sometimes comment/question in #themanadrain on efnet and am active in #magic-league on solidirc.

I am also an accomplished C programmer looking for ideas on a new project. I am not interested in coding a new MWS/Apprentice.

Hi all!

I'm new around here, though I've been lurking on and off for a few years. I started playing Magic around 2000, but I've been mostly a casual player. I've dabbled in some tournament play around Onslaught, and done a few drafts here and there, but I mostly play online. I'm in the Boston area, so hopefully I will be able to start showing up at the Pandemonium games each week

Hey guys, I'm Mick, and I started playing Magic a couple of weeks ago, under the influence of my older cousin. I recently found a MTG hobby shop near my school, but I haven't tried playing in any of the people there. I will as soon as I get better.

Right now, I'm experimenting with different Black and White life drain/life gain combinations. I like to let the game drag on, destroying creatures to gain life and sacrificing them to damage my opponent. I'm a Permission player's favorite opponent. haha.

Ah ha. This thread does exist! Excellent.

My name is Heather. I also am somewhat forced to go by "Heffer", hense the user name.

I've been playing magic (mostly just type 1) for probably around 12 years. For a long while, I only played unwillingly when my brother, Keith, would make new decks and have me play against him so he could test them. As of about 5 years ago I started playing in friendly type 1 every friday night at Grandmasters in Darthmouth, MA. I never took the game very seriously though and kind of went just for the social aspects. I ended up becoming known for my use of the squirrel deck, and I bet there are some of you on here who have at least some memory of that. After grandmaster closed, my magic playing carreer became rather dormant.

I am happy to say that since the beginning of '09 I have gotten back into magic and am now trying very hard to improve myself and become a serious player. I want to get my name out there in the community and I want to practice more and more so that I hopefully can eventually do well in tournaments. I play type 1 every monday night at scholars in bridgewater, and pretty much come in dead last every week. I also go to a decent number of relatively local events to watch, learn, act as a cheerleader, and try to engrave myself in the community all at once. Yay, multi-tasking!

Hey, I thought that I would intro myself. Carl from Black Gold told me about the site so I checked it out and signed up.
Not to much to say about me, I'm a college student and a computer geek who loves his video games. Oh and I happen to play Vintage every Thu and Sun.

Greetings everyone,

I am Mike from Arkansas, 43 year old father of a 12 who is starting to intensify his Magic interest - I am fairly convinced that one of the reasons I am married my wife was that she learned to play magic with me and still continues to play it occasionally. I started playing in So. Cal at the end of Alpha.  I took a break from the start of Mercadian Masques to the start of the Ravnica block, but have been learning since then playing very casually but studying Vintage intensely.  My user name is an Anagram of something special in my life.  Have lurked on various boards and sites for years but have only started to post in the last year or so.

Hello!

Just joined here.

I go to college in Tampa, Florida. I'm studying to get my engineering master's degree.

This site really astounded me when I saw it. I work in research, and I was astounded at the level of care that is taken to "separate the wheat from the chaff" on these forums. The quality controls in place are pretty similar to those at a scientific journal. In my opinion, a lot less BS about Magic would be spewed if every forum had such high standards.

I've been playing Magic for about 5 years, since my senior year of high school. I got into it because I was fed-up with Yu-Gi-Oh, and friends told me Magic was a much better game (they weren't kidding!) I started playing about 2 weeks after the "Darksteel" expansion in the Mirrodin block came out. Oddly enough, I had a relatively easy time adjusting to the game during this time, because the ridiculously-overpowered Ravager Affinity deck was at, more or less, the same level of broken-ness that existed in Yu-Gi-Oh.

Because school takes up so much of my time (and money), I don't really play competively anymore. Also, I don't know if its just a Florida thing or what, but I just can't stand alot of the people that play the game in real life. Alot of them have very bad attitudes, talk smack, or will steal from you. Despite that though, I really love this game. It just has that special flair about it that you don't get from video games, books, or television.

Right now, I just collect goodies for my Type 4 deck (my favorite format!)

I'm thinking about getting into Vintage/Legacy later in life though, because even though its alot of money up front, its cheaper in the long run. I know people that have bought 1-2 boxes of each set since Tempest so they could stay current with Type 2.

I'm always down for some freebie Apprentice play though!

Hi, my name's Brandon, I'm 28 years old and I've been playing Magic since my pops got me into it as a kid to help get me out of trouble (around The Dark)

I love the flavor of M:TG Vintage from a nostalgic perspective, sometimes I just like to browse my favorite complete sets of The Dark - Fallen Empires - Ice Age just to admire the artwork. I took a much longer break then most people, between Alliances and Coldsnap, coincidently.. but I've managed to hold on to all my essential playables from back in the day, dual lands playsets, P9, Legends rares and Mana Drains, for example. I was lucky because getting into Vintage was extremely easy for me now thanks to the rabid collecting habits of my former (child) self. I guess it's been a few years now that I've been following/studying The Mana Drain and related articles during my free time at work. I've gotten to play a fair amount of tournaments around Europe and have made top 8.

I'm as American as it gets but I've stayed overseas since I was 18 thanks to the Army and related contracter jobs. Magic tends to crop up in odd places for me, most recently as a past time while we waited for bad stuff to happen during more then 2 years in Baghdad, Iraq (2004-2006) As a firefighter I responded to most every emergency in the International Zone during this period.

Nowadays I take it easy, I'm married to a lovely Czech girl with a 1 year old son and we live in Prague, Czech Republic. I love living here it's great, I'm currently helping to keep the Vintage scene here alive, thankfully we have a great store to hold events at right near the center. I work for a US Aerospace corporation and manage a ton of business with Airbus + Airlines customers in the UK like British Airways. As for other hobbies I play Defensive End/Linebacker in the only Czech-Slovak Gridiron (American) Football league, and during the winter tons of Ice Hockey and Snowboarding.

To anyone that just bothered to read my little life-MTG summary, well hey thanks, btw you're welcome to visit the CR anytime, I'll show you around better then anybody and you'll have a great time.

Yo yo yo.... Yo.

Sorry, I just wanted to break the monotony of the typical "introduction post".

Anyway, the reason I'm here. My name is Walter Wertz, and I have been playing Vintage for less than a year competitively. I have been interested for a long while (playing on and off with Jon Richards, Dan Herd, Sean Lind, and their crew). And now that my career is starting to pick up, I stopped trying to play the PTQs and started playing Vintage and Legacy. Both formats are easier for me to keep up with in the long run, and thats what finally drew me. I might start PTQing again in the future, depends on what happens with "real life", but for the moment, my time will most likely be dedicated to the Vintage format.

I made 3 PTQs top 8s (one MRD/MRD/MRD, one RAV/GPT/DIS with CS/CS/CS draft, and one TSP/TSP/TSP). I also have a resume filled with 9th and 10th place finishes, including a 9th place finish in the 1,000 player regional featuring ONS/MRD standard (the Skullclamp days... sigh). I finally made my first Vintage Top 8 at the Philly Open 3, running Ichorid with a main deck Realm Razor. And I cannot stress how insane Realm Razor is in the deck.

Other than that: I am a full time Film Marker, part time Home Depot slave. I am currently in pre-production to shoot my first budgeted film in October, which will be the most insane 2 weeks of my life. I also run and produce my own web series, Bill is a Dick (www.billisadick.com), which averages 1,000 views a week. And lastly, I am a freelance screenwriter. Each job is usually good for about 6-8 months worth of work, depending on how well my drafts look (And yes, they never accept the first 3/4 drafts.) I still work at Home Depot because Film Making does not offer benefits until I am union, which takes a long while. Hopefully by the end of next year, I'll have my WGA card. Just depends on what happens with my current crop of projects.

So nice to meet you all Smile

Name: Nick
Location: Worcester, Massachusetts
Willing to play: anywhere in mass or rhode island

I used to play Magic until the release of Alliances. I recently stepped back in and am looking for a place to play or group to play with. I refuse to play anything but Vintage (I remember when it wasn't vintage, it was just "the way"). I just cannot give up the use of the few power cards I have.

Also looking to see where collectible card shows (where magic and other cards are sold) are taking place.

Hey all!
My name is BernieB and I have been playing Magic since around Ice Age.  I enjoy all of the formats and really enjoy a good land destruction deck.   My one vintage deck looks lke it will now be tweaked to be my standard deck with the return of Ball Lightning and Lightning Bolt.
I collect Stone Rain, so if anyone would like to trade, please let me know!

My name is Onno and I'm 23 years old. I live in Amsterdam and have been playing Magic since Champions of Kamigawa. I've ''learned'' the game through portal when I was like 11 or 12 but I didn't understand the rules. I had one friend who had an enormous collection as well but we had no idea what cumulitive upkeep and other stuff was. So Illusionary Wall was a creature that could attack and give you 1 blue mana for free every turn. Talk about broken creatures...
Needless to say I didn't stick around long enough to teach the game properly. We played our lands before drawing and even used instants in our own turn for the love of God... Oh yeah, and you could either attack with one creature.. or all of them, nothing in between (I don't know how we made that up)

It wasn't until late 2004 when a new kid from my class told me he used to play Magic. The next day we visited the local game shop and I brought my old deck lol (it was a blue, green, red 80-card pile with some Time Elementals, Fireballs and Force of Natures) It didn't take very long for me to build my first real deck, which was Sui Black. x) I played a lot of tournaments in a short amount of time with varying results. I sold my cards in 2006 though.. I kinda spent too much money on it (limited formats, changing decks) I stopped playing but I'm back (vintage only.. maybe legacy) again since three months and I've just played my first tournament

As my username indicates I'm a huge boxing fan. I'm very bad at thinking up nicknames although I usually use Kaneda for stuff. I don't know why I chose this but oh well.. I remember creating this account one year earlier when I almost convinced myself of buying vintage cards and playing again. But here we are, one year later. I'm 27, recently getting back into tournament play after a long layoff (Necro and Sligh were the last decks I played in tournaments, if that gives you any idea).  Live in Vermont, where if there is any type of Vintage community it must be well-hidden.

Hey everyone, I'm Jason. I started playing during Revised and took a long hiatus after the Invasion block, but I recently moved to Northeast Ohio and have rediscovered the urge to flip the magical cards. I've been playing with the Cleveland crew for the last 8 months or so (Twaun, Nam Q. Tran, Jerry Yang, Mark Trogdon, etc.) and re-learning the format while getting savaged by Workshop decks on a daily basis. Hope to run into some of you on the vintage scene.

Hi there, my name is Mike Graham. I've been gamer ever since I remember, first playing Atari 2600 when I was a kid (before the NES came out). During high school some I played Rifts for a few years but mostly just stuck with MtG or FPS and RPG console games. In college I found bdominia (2000-2001) while looking for primers and lurked there. Once themanadrain opened I posted occasionally usually about 4 color control, mask, and workshop strategies as well as making comments on community threads. My handle was "verlorene", this was all before the boards were purged, I think I only have a few posts since then but I decided to recreate an account since I started using this screen name on another forum.

Every few years I play Magic then take long breaks so I've missed quite a few sets over the years...I haven't played but a couple games since 2005. From late 2004 to early 2008 I spent all my free time playing WoW, I did the whole raiding thing and PVP/Arena. I had over 2k rating on my toons but lost interest, the last time I think I really had fun pvping was in premades before TBC. If you were in the Vindication battlegroup or on my server Thunderhorn you may have known me as Belphegor (UD Mage) or Grahaminator (Tauren Druid). I heavily upgraded my computer to play Age of Conan but it was terrible and I didn't renew my initial subscription. Now I occasionally get on my PS3 or play tower defense games on my ITouch/G-Phone. I made this account last year in hopes of posting and going to the San Antonio Vintage mox tourney but a new job kept me busy until I was layed off during Xmas. I'm working again in the Houston area and am looking for Vintage playtesting and tournaments. My office is near 610 and Ella (The Heights) but I live near Sugarland.

Some people may know me from the weekly tournaments at Dragon's Breath Games (which shut down awhile back) during 2004-2005. I played Vintage and Standard (during Mirroden block) tournies every week there. I mostly played 4 color control or STAX in the Vintage events or RG Tempo LD or MWC in the Standard. I plan on playing both Vintage and Legacy at Asgard Games but I haven't been able to make it out to playtest or attend tournaments due to work and rl responsibilities.

Edit: by the way this is my myspace that I dont log into any more in case someone wants to check and see if they know me or if you are randomly bored

Tom Martin: would you go gay for Sebastian Abreu or Russell Brand, too?
BB34:Russel Brand, yes. Sebastian Abreu, no. Every man has a right to have a short list of men they would let ravage them. Who would turn down Ryan Reynolds, come on man.
