I am not very familiar with combo decks. In fact i only playeed some kinda charbelcher deck that instantly lost to Null Rod. So if someone can explain in short what kinda combo deck are out there i would appreciate it.
And about the topic. Would Erayo pose a problem for combo? To clearify my question: does combo need to get rid of it before it can go off, cause im sure combo can get rid of a 1/1 critter..

Erayo counterspells one spell each turn, and it's the first spell.  If a combo deck exists that cannot win around 1 counterspell, if you know when it is going to be cast, it's not going to be played in type 1 for very long.  Summary response: No, combo wins through erayo easily.

@Warble:
Erhm, have you ever considered that the fish player might have FoW back-up as well?

However...getting this thing flipped before the combo deck has killed you seems rather difficult...most type 1 combo decks kill around turn 1-3. I'd much rather have an arcane lab then erayo.

Doesn't the comboplayer need more than 4 spells to finish me? I was just wondering how much impact it would have if i played Erayo turn 1 and passed the turn to the combo player.
Followed with cards like forces/Stifle/Mage/Duress ...

It has to slow down the combo player, at least?

if you drop it turn one and combo tries to go off they'll have to remember that the 5th spell will get countered so they need to play accordingly, they don't have to get rid of it because they can just save an off color mox or something else useless for that point in the chain.....

Erayo specifically says the FIRST spell is countered, since when has the fifth spell counted as the first?! Razz

Erayo still remembers how many spells have been played, flipping doesn't erase her memory.

If that's the way it works than that's even worse.

I'm pretty sure that if she flips she counters the first spell cast after she flips.....also known as the 5th spell cast that turn.

EDIT: aparently I was wrong, ok....like I said this is even worse.

Well the exact wording says the first spell played that turn, so she won't become effective until the next turn. And the fact that it's the first spell she'll see after flipping doesn't mean it counts as the first spell of the turn.

If your opponent plays Erayo and passes the turn, she will not be countering anything on your turn, and you are free to go insane.  Her spell count doesn't reset when flipped.  If you can somehow get her flipped, she is a pain (altho still not ridiculous, since they can just drop a mox and then go off), but hardly the be-all end-all.

Actually, what you want to do here is flip Erayo during a turn you play Arcane Lab with Force backup.

Then you win, barring man lands or Urza's Rage.  Razz

What you do is play 4 Forces and 4 Stifles main and tell combo to go fuck itself.
