Dark brute

{1} {B} {B} {G} {G}
Creature - Beast
when darkbrute is put into a graveyard from play, choose a number, then destroy each nonland permanent with converted mana cost equal to X

4/4

" in life, it's a nightmare, in death, its far worse"

is the casting cost ok? or should it be 3 B G instead?

Current wording

Dark brute

{3} {B} {G}
Creature - Beast
When darkbrute is put into a graveyard from play, choose a number and destroy all nonland permanants with converted mana cost equal to that number."

4/4

" In life, it's a nightmare, in death, its far worse"

Yes,Tarmogoyf is probably better than Chameleon Colossus, but comparing it to Tarmogoyf is like comparing your girlfriend to Carmen Electra - one's versatile and reliable, the other's just big and cheap.(And you'd run both if you could get away with)

3BG, definitely. It's not overpowered;green gets 4/4s for five mana with a minor ability at common, so adding a color is definitely enough to pay for upgrading to a stronger ability.

Colored mana is pretty to look at but it makes cards exponentially harder to cast, and therefore less and less likely to ever see play. And getting your cards to see play somewhere should be the goal behind every card.

The effect is rather good, though....Thinking along the lines of using it with Cabal therapy or something...it wipes the board clean when it dies, thats rather powerful. (Or, sometimes just the opponents board)

dont forget zeus online, that its not a pernicious deed. it just destroys the things with casting cost, not everything less like a deed does.
what about making it cost 4 mana?

if you look at loxodon hierarch, 4 mana, 2 good abilities.

would 4 be too good?

Most likely.  You might also want to make the card have a comes into play ability where you choose  {X}.  Then, when it leaves play, you reveal that number and destroy all permanents a la Punishment.

I'd make it slightly more expensive at 4 {B} {G}.  A 6 mana 4/4 with an incredibly powerful ability that can never backfire on you.  Also, I hate the name.

Are you trying to make the number determined when it gets binned?  Then word it like this:
"When <this> is put into a graveyard from play, choose a number and destroy all nonland permanants with converted mana cost equal to that number."

What I feel would be a more interesting number is having both players choose and nuke equal to both numbers.  Or just you choose, but you lose that much life.  Then you could probably even make it 2BG for a 4/4.

This card was perfectly fine at 5 mana. It wouldn't be common. Making it cost more or losing life are completely unwaranted.

didn't Jeroen Remie design this card and submit it has his invitational card like 2-3 years ago?  I seem to recall his cost like 1BBG or something like that.  I believe it was 2 invitationals ago, when Fujita's card won the vote.

if he did, I didnt know. I love the Rock decks, and I thought that this card would be a great addition.
