It's funny how you happen to mention a 9 month period, Leon. Because this is the closest I'll ever come to having a baby.

I died a little inside when I saw "Michael Bay." When I went to see Pirates, I closed my eyes for that part. The trailer is actually 100x better that way.

I really don't understand where all the Michael Bay hating comes from.
I thought Bad Boys was extremely cool, The Rock is just a plain good action movie, I loved Armageddon for some reason I can't put my finger on*, the Pearl Harbor director's cut was an impressive improvement over the theatrical release, and The Island wasn't half bad, either. OK, so maybe none of them are brilliant works of art, and sure, he's a little heavy on the melodramatics, but aside from Bad Boys II, I don't think any of them particularly suck, either.
I'm glad they got Bay, who at least knows how to manage his visual effects and CGI teams, which will obviously play a HUGE part in this movie. A good script and decent acting could push Transformers to the level of a good movie, but insanely cool CGI is simply a necessary condition for it to not immediately suck.
*=The reason, obviously, is Liv Tyler. Just saying I can't put my finger on her.

From IMDB: He is a very close friend of writer/director George Lucas from whom he often seeks advice. Need I say more?

I really don't understand where all the Michael Bay hating comes from. To me, the Michael Bay "brand" means this movie will be disposable pulp: the kind of thing that tickles the base of the medulla oblongata and then fades completely from mind by the time you exit the theater.

Most people think that Armageddon and The Island were meh, but the actual h8 is basically because Pearl Harbor sucked. Enough, apparently to make people forget how awesome Bad Boys and The Rock were.

You got the touch You got the power
After all is said and done You've never walked, you've never run, You're a winner
You got the moves, you know the streets Break the rules, take the heat You're nobody's fool
You're at your best when when the goin' gets rough You've been put to the test, but it's never enough
You got the touch You got the power
When all hell's breakin' loose You'll be riding the eye of the storm
You got the heart You got the motion
You know that when things get too tough You got the touch
You never bend, you never break You seem to know just what it takes You're a fighter
It's in the blood, it's in the will It's in the mighty hands of steel When you're standin' your ground
And you never get hit when your back's to the wall Gonna fight to the end and you're takin' it all
You got the touch You got the power
When all hell's breakin' loose You'll be riding the eye of the storm
You got the heart You got the motion
You know that when things get too tough You got the touch
You're fightin' fire with fire You know you got the touch
You're at your best when when the road gets rough You've been put to the test, but it's never enough

You guys do realize we're talking about Transformers, not Shakespeare. Everyone who loved Transformers growing up is probably going to see this movie no matter how bad it is. I mean come on, who's going to say they were dissapointed in the '86 movie because it wasn't directed by Polanski?

Rumor has it that Peter Cullen, Optimus Prime's voice actor in the original series, will be returning to play the same role for this movie.

That is the best news I've heard in a while. I almost gave up hope, and assumed they'd hire Vin Diesel for the job or whatever. Too bad Scatman Crothers is dead... Oh crap, yeah. No more Jazz Same thing goes for Chris Latta (Starscream, Wheeljack). Those were important voices. I hope they manage to get Peter Cullen and Frank Welker (Soundwave, Megatron). Both are still working, fortunately. The best thing would be if they were ALL the same, but these are the ones I care about most.

Yeah, I caught the live webcast on www.transformersmovie.com last night where they announced it. Thank GOD they opted for the old skool approach. Some of my favorite characters in there, too. Oh, also: there will be a wicked contest, where you can send in a line that Optimus Prime is gonna actually say in the film if you win it! Any thoughts? To quote some transformer board guy's sig: "It's not easy being a Michael Bay fan. In contemporary society you could be an overweight, disabled, lesbian, African-American Jew who smokes, and still you wouldn't be as discriminated against as much as someone who positively adores Armageddon."
