I'd like to congratulate Franz Ferdinand and Naphtali as the winners of 3CB Tournament #81!
As you all know, a brilliant turnout, and the first time I've refused second decks for a very long time! The field was decidedly anti-Lotus this week, with Scavenger and Rakdos decks falling by the wayside, allowing any decks with multiple threats to take the tournament home by some distance! Well done!

Well, a tournament like this cements the Lotus-is-allowed format as something that is set as normal for the time being! A huge variety of decks, despite the number of functionally identical one (three pairs of decks is more than usual, to say the least); what surprised me was quite how strongly people went gunning for the Lotus decks, which cost the Lotus decks hugely - the Rakdos deck has no backup at all, while the Scavenger decks always need a turn to get their engine going. By nature the fact that they have no mana stability, the decks with one piece of removal dealt with them very well (in light of which, I thought Matt's deck deserved to do a lot better, though it would work better with Thallid/Isamaru/Roc Hatchling); the best decks were the ones that had reusable removal - Trinisphere stops the Scavenger recursion, and Karakas can beat back creatures all day long - or decks that had another threat after trading removal, such as the mana burn of the Vineyard. I was surprised that Swords didn't do well, but the Karakas deck simply has more going for it. A great tournament - let's go again now!

For next week: Same Again!

What is 3cb?

3-Card Blind (3CB) is a very unique game. The rules are as follows

Your deck is composed of 3 cards, all of which start in your hand.
You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing).
Random effects always go in your opponent's favour.
You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play.
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second.
For each win, you score 3.
For each draw, you score 1.
For each loss, you get nothing.
Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC!

To make an entry, PM your deck (for this week only) to combo_dude in the following format:

Subject: 3cb Tournament #82 Entry or 3cb Tournament#82 Revision
Deck Name
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3

Optional Deck discussion, random sucking up, etc.

Entries close after 2 weeks. Get your entries in by July 23rd. THIS IS A SUNDAY, NOT THE MONDAY AS USUAL. See the announcement in the Casual Forum for why I'm moving it back a day.

Thanks,
Adam

EDIT: A reminder that Coldsnap is NOT LEGAL for this tournament.

Yeah, I just grabbed the first 1cc guy I could think of. Man, I expected to do a lot better than LAST place.

Oh well.

Well, it doesn't really matter because it did crappily. It's funny how a deck can win one round and then be near the bottom the next.

Whether or not Coldsnap is legal for 3CB 82 is up to Combo_Dude. Since I'm running 3CB 83, however, Coldsnap will be legal for that.

Since I haven't looked through Coldsnap properly, I'm going to say no for this tournament. For the first 4CB tournament it will be allowed, of course.

What about legalizing Portal?

Oh, you'll need to wait 6 months from the announcement for that! Very Happy I'll have a look through, but don't hold your breath - it's laziness more than anything else, but I may get round to it at some stage.

Also, while we're on the subject of new sets, does anyone have any immediate objections to cards they've seen in Coldsnap?

I had a look through it yesterday and I couldn't actually see anything that looked competitive. I had a bit of a think but I couldn't find anything to go with Braid of Fire, which is the only card that really leaped out at me.

At M-L, I've legalized Portal. There's nothing in it worth playing that isn't better in another set, and there's nothing worth banning. I don't see any reason not to have it.

A few more decks would be good, numbers are down a bit from the last couple of tournaments.
