Roland and Jacob Orlove's power has been stolen.  If you are in the NYC area and know these people, and if you have information leading to the recovery of these cards, there will be a substantial award.  Information is necessary now.  Please contact any meandecker you know with information immediately.

Jacob works hard to keep these forums running.  Lets show them our support.

Folks, these are two upstanding members of the community and I know we won't let them down. There was a mix of beta and unlimited power, from what I remember. I'm sure Roland will be able to fill in the details. Contact any of us if you have any information; there will be no questions asked about where it came from and we will keep identities anonymous.

Man I've played Roland before and I really respect him.  He's one of the nicest guys I know.  For someone to fuck him less than Two Weeks before Gencon is really fucked up.  As for Or<3, I've only talked to him briefly, but I really REALLY hope that they get their cards back.

Who has extra power to borrow to Roland and JOr<3 for gencon?  I say we start a search!

Hello, this is Ici.

I was there with Roland today at Neutral Ground when everything happened. PM's are welcome, but finger-pointing and accusations are not. My bag was checked along with about 30 other people's. This greatly offends me because I am one of Roland's good friends and have played with him both IRL and online for about a year. In fact, I was the one that advised Roland to post on TMD to make a comprehensive inventory of the missing cards.

Wow, this is definitely horrible. I just met Roland Yesterday at Waterbury, and he is absolutely an awesome guy.

It would be good if he has scans of cards, I am sure many people including myself will be watching out for these cards to show up in local dealers and eBay. I'm also from NY, so I will keep an eye out.

I apologize if it seemed like I was accusing.  The most important thing ist hat we find Rolands cards.

Please, anyone who happens to see someone trying to sell or trade a large collection of extremely pimp cards notify someone ASAP.

Rolands collection should be pretty easy to identify.  We'll get more specifics when Roland is able to post.

As we speak, Roland is at the police station, and I will accompany him there as a witness whenever we decide on a common time. This time will be sometime this week. I will definitely keep everyone posted.

All the witnesses at the scene were questioned, and their bags examined, including me. I will probably be getting either 1 to 2 other witnesses that were also there at the scene to accompany Roland to the police station as well. Everyone keep their fingers crossed, and hopefully all will turn out well.

I just called Tommy Kolowith (TK) and informed him about JO and Roland, and told him to tell ALL the dealers @ waterbury about it.

Not sure how much has changed but here is a link to Roland's pimp stax deck on his art website.  Many very recognizable cards, hopefully the theif will be caught.

Good luck Roland.& Jacob

If you are reading this and you were the one who took the cards or you know who did-- return the cards. You'll get a reward for it and no questions will be asked. If you try to sell or trade these cards, you WILL be caught and you WILL be prosecuted. It's just not worth it.

UPDATE:  I just talked to TK.  Apparently he informed some people at waterbury, and now everyone there knows.

Question: Do people get their cards insured against situations like this? If you do, what are reasonable rates and what companies do you go through? It seems that unfortunately theft is pretty prevalent in our hobby.

Home Owners insurance will only cover about $1500 in collectables (most of the time). YOu need to get seperate insurance for your cards.

Does anyone here actually have their cards insured, though? If so, about how much does it cost? It seems like something everyone with a type 1 collection should consider. I know my type 1 deck alone, not counting any extra power or even personal stuff that I'm not playing with at the moment, is worth over $5k. If this about the same for everyone, insurance should be a strongly considered option.

According to my State Farm agent, you can get a "Personal Items" insurance.  They will insure your cards based on their value from an acceptable price guide (Scrye, I'd assume).  Six months ago, I was 1 meeting away from getting this done, and never followed through.  After hearing about Roland and Jacob with GenCon right around the corner you can assure I'm locating a copy of Scrye tonight and I'll be in there tomorrow getting my T1 stuff insured.  Seems worth it right now.

Scrye prices are so high that it's tempting to just throw your stuff down a gutter after you insure it.

What do you do about cards not in a price guide? I don't think Japanese Foils will be accurately reflected in any guide, or even Summer stuff.

*chuckles* (it didn't actually sound like an accusation, more like a finished ruling ;o)

Hello insurance fraud!

Regarding the Japanese foil stuff, I think the higher prices in the guide are about the only way you'd ever make up the difference on the rare/pimp stuff.  If you're getting overpaid on normal, english cards, then taking a hit value-wise on the foreign foils are something you'd have to live with.  I'm sure it balances out.

Or, you know, don't play with cards not in the guide?

Your insurance agent will be able to give you the answer on that one. What it seems like is that you'd give an estimate of what the foils are worth, back it up with some evidence and then they'd set an insurance rate on that. I don't know if you'd necessarily need a priceguide.

Could you just build an Ebay portfolio for the median price of foreign foils and the like? My insurance law knowlege is rather slim.

If the rates are reasonable, I think it'd be a really great idea to have cards insured. Some items cannot really be replaced - like really rare stuff, Summer Magic, etc - but at least you can be financially covered.

I know a little bit about art insurance, but I think that is a whole new ballgame as collectables are not as old, or expensive as most art.

I wanted to have my cards insured about a year ago.  The lady on the phone wasnt sure but she told me I actualyl had to have the cards appraised.

Seems to me it would be VERY easy to claim you have 5 black lotus then 2 years later WOOOPS!

Also, if you ever trade something away or sell it, make sure that your insurance policy covers the remaining stuff. If you have to present your insured goods everytime they change, for example when you have individual cards noted down as "most valuable" or something like that, it could become quite a hassle. Make sure with your insurance agent how the policy is actually going to work, and also if you are still covered when you're at a tournament. I could imagine that the extra security hazard isn't covered in a regular contract, so I'd make sure to point out that the cards will be in use in the public.
