- Requested decklist not be posted -

An interesting note: 4 members of team 61 (yeah, they're one better than you) showed up, 2 of them playing decks with 61 cards (the other 2 chickened out), who were the 1st and 2nd seeds after swiss. If anyone sees any mistakes in their decklist just PM me or post it in this thread. We will be having another Type 1 event in one month on Sunday, August 27th, 2006 at the same location. The prize this time will be an unlimited Ancestral Recall if we have at least 32 people, an unlimited mox if we have at least 20, and a Mana Drain if we have less than 20. The complete info on this tourney will be up in a few minutes. Hope to see everyone there!

I'm glad to hear that you guys had such a large turnout.  I hope this is a sign of things to come...

Edit: Apparently it is!

We had 2 people from Georgia and 2 people from Virginia come.

Technically I'm from South Carolina not Georgia but that's not a big deal.

I had a great time and really enjoyed my matches all day. Everybody was very easy going and it was good to see such a diverse field for a 20 person event. Congrats to Cody for taking home the Drain.

I am looking forward to the next one. Can we cut to Top 8 next time?

What was the rest of the metagame like?

It's good to finally see some NC Vintage tournaments get advertised on the internet.  If only I had checked the anouncement forum more often I would have been there...sorry.   Sad

Two of the guys on Team 61 were playing Grim Long, one was playing Drain Tendrils, one was playing Workshop Aggro, one was playing Control Slaver, and the other was playing Tog. There was another guy playing Grim Long. There was a few mono black decks, ichorid, 7/10, r/g beats and a few other random decks.

Here's what I remember:

Grim Long x3
Drain Tendrils
CS
Oath
Stax
Workshop Aggro
one more Workshop deck (the 7/10 probably)
Mono Black w/ blue splash
Underworld Dreams combo
Urb Power Artifact combo
Hide & Seek control
GR aggro
Suicide Black
Ichorid
Sullivan Solution
Tog

Missing a few but I think Grim Long was the only deck that was represented in multiples that I recall.

I was too exhausted after the tournament and car disaster of the previous day to make it to this, but I will be there next time.

Cullen:

Thanks for that! I really couldn't remember that many. There were two guys playing workshop aggro (Justin who got third and a Team 61er with dark confidants similar to Travis LaPlante's list). I think those were all of the decks... thanks for the good memory. For the next tournament I'll be sure to get all of the decklists from the store instead of just the top 4 so I can let everyone know what the field was like.

I also played against a Rector deck.

It was a really fun tournament, I hope we can get a few more players in for the next one.  I particularly appreciated Cullen and Hill making it, I know that it was a long drive.

I may do a mini-report and discuss my latest list if I find time.  My first game versus Cullen was pretty ridiculous.
