I'm happy to announce that the Kettering Gaming Society will be hosting a Legacy tournament with a guaranteed prize of a Unlimited Black Lotus to first place, and a Unlimited Time Walk to second place on September 9, 2006. The tournament will be sanctioned Legacy format with a $20 entry fee. If more than 40 players register, we will award prizes to as much of the remainder of the top 8 as possible, but the Lotus and Time Walk are guaranteed for any number of particpants, 8 or 100. Rounds will be swiss and depend on the number of players registering. There will be a cut to top 8 after the final round.

What: Black Lotus, Time Walk Legacy Tournament
When: Noon, September 9th (Registration starts at 11am)
Where: International Room on the 5th Floor of Kettering University's Campus Center (1700 W. 3rd, Flint, MI 48504)

Directions: See Google Maps for your location to 1700 W. 3rd Ave, Flint, MI 48504. There is a parking lot in the rear of the dorms (on the same block as the Campus Center), accessible by side road on 3rd St. There will be signs posted and possibly people on hand to direct you.

There will be several dealers on hand that you can purchase cards from if need be, as well as side events if enough people are interested.

If you need more information, feel free to contact me on AIM, Yahoo, or MSN, or by email. My contact information is in my profile.

Let's make this the biggest Legacy event the midwest has seen yet! Hope to see everyone there!

Edit: added a map

I will be there.

Can you post a link to a Mapquest or Google map of the general area so folks like me don't have to open up another browser window, cut and paste info, and so on.  I'm lazy and I've only had one cup of coffee so far today.

Aw man, I think that's the end of the first week of classes.  I hope I can make it down.  I won't have a car, so I'll need to figure out some way to get from Ann Arbor to Flint.

Though, it's about damn time we had another big tourney.

In fact...I just might have to dig out Welder Survival.

*edit* Yeh, I think the only way I'll be able to make it is if someone drives me.  Also, that's my first week of college, so I'm not sure I want to leave the scene so soon.  We'll see.

Rich, would you miss this because you're too lazy/scared to hitchike?

Oh, and Chum will most certainly be there, at least 3 of us. It's nice that Pande is the week before, so all us Pande people can see what we really want to take to this place, and I really hope someone from Pande wins. Good luck to you all!

Amazingly, I am considering coming out to this event.  However, I am not willing to drive my ass all the way from Ann Arbor by myself.  Anyone from that area considering going and willing to carpool?

Also, that day is my 22nd birthday. Very Happy  Last year, I won a tournament the day after my birthday.

Chum is showing up in full force for this one. We've been putting lots of time and effort into testing and metagaming for the event. I hope everyone has been doing the same, because I really want to see the Pande folks do well (Chum and Predict, plus Dan and whoever else shows up.) We've been told that if 1/3 of the people who say they're showing show up, there will be a fairly large player pool (50+ players). This should put prizes in the Top 8's hands, which is nice. Good luck to everyone who decides to attend, and if any southeast Michigan players are having problems showing up, PM me and I'll see if we can work something out to get you up there.

Arg, some jokester decided to use my account to create stupid posts...

Anyways, before that took place, I was trying to post something.

Who is going to judge this tournament, and how many judges will there be?

Additionally, what REL is this thing going do be?  Do we need pre-prepared decklists?  Will there be forms available on site?

I talked to emidln.

He said he believes it's REL 2, but he left it up to the store owner and the judge running the event to decide.  Also, registration is required, and forms are available on site.  There will be 2-3 judges (including the head judge) on hand.

Assuming I hear back from FFY, I will be coming.

Should that fail, anyone else from the Ann Arbor area coming? (It never hurts to have a backup plan.)

Check with JDizzle, who is also coming from A^2.  If you guys don't have a ride, I still have seats open but you'd have to be ready early.

Well, FFY and crew are leaving from RIW, which leaves me ride-less.

As of 10.30 Friday night, I haven't heard back from Dan.

So unless I hear from him (or someone else *puppy eyes*), I might not make it.

DAN IS A GOD.

Im listening to this whole thing play out, it's quite amusing..  Anywho glad to see it appears to be working out, and I wouldn't be surprised if Richard is gunning for Demars. JK JK

Richard is gunning for Demars
You should have heard him on the phone.  Almost in tears after finding out he couldn't ride in the same car as FFY.

On the other hand, I was really bummed out when my wife told me she wasn't going.  Sausagefest Flint sucks.  Going out clubbing after the tourney would have been nice.

Well, I might as well post it.  41 people showed.  Top 8 was thus:

1. Ravager Affinity (Phil Cape)
2. Ravager Affinity (John Wilkerson)
3. UBW Fish (Me)
4. Goblins
5. UGW Threshold (cancerstix)
6. Goblins
7. RG Survival Advantage (nartman99)
8. Ravager Affinity

I'll write up a report tomorrow.  I'm dead tired.  Lists will be posted shortly.

2. Ravager Affinity (John Wilkerson)
3. UBW Fish (Me)
4. Goblins
5. UGW Threshold (cancerstix)
6. Ravager Affinity
7. Goblins w/green splash
8. RG Survival

Fixed.

I went 8-0 in games played (I conceded one game to Kilz88 to help his tiebreakers if he won out) in the first 4 rounds, ID'ed rounds 5 and 6, only to have my deck take a crap on me in top 8 versus Wilkerson.  Pande and RIW represented hardcore; placing 2 players each in the top 8.  Go us!  RIW took home the Lotus and the Walk.

I'm going to sleep now.  Maybe I'll put together a report if a find the inspiration somewhere between Statisics and Diff Eq homework...I actually took match notes this time.  I hope emidln picked up the T8 decklists from the H.J.  I'm not driving back out to Flint to get them.

I finished ninth!!! woot.

In fourth place after the fifth round, and a pair down.  Unfortunately I drew exactly zero Rituals of any sort after drawing DI cards the entire sixth and last round and ended up losing.  Worst draws evar.

However, on a good note my two teamates John Wilkerson and Phil Cape ended up drawing in the finals.

RIW rocks, and if you disagree, it is most likely you are just jealous.  jk

Anyways, it was a fun tourney, and I hope that you guys will consider throwing anohter one of these events.  It was a really good time.

Dan it was good hanging out with you again!  Props to everybody for showing up.

As it turns out, your sixth round opponent was the teammate of Nam Tran, which is why he refused the draw.  Lucky for Nam.

I enjoyed both of my matches against Wilkerson.  Beating him 2-0 in swiss was nice and it was only fair that he returned the favor in top 8.  Karma is sometimes more real than I like to admit.  I will definitely accept your team's offer to come test with you guys.  Thank you.  RIW is home of some of the best players in the state.  I look forward to many games of Legacy against the best RIW has to offer.  I ask only that you guys continue to come down to Pande once in a while.  I appreciate all the help I can get in developing a Legacy community in southeast MI.  Thusly, many thanks to John and Brandon for putting together the Lotus tourney.

As it turns out, I have a power tourney in the works for some time in January.  Top prize will be either Ancestral, Walk, Jet, or Saphire with second as a Beta blue dual or Library of Alexandria.  If Kettering holds another event, we will have to make sure more than 41 players show.  I want to see 75+ players at a Michigan Legacy event and I won't rest until it happens.

It was indeed very nice hanging out with all of you guy's.  I now know why you have the top Eternal rating in the state; you're a friggin Jedi.  How you got that UGw Threshold player (I forgot his name...Kyle?) to Stifle your fetchland, while you're piloting IGGy Pop, is beyond comprehension.  I must learn.

It was awesome to see CHUM in full force.  Team predict was also nicely represented though they were missing Urza_Insane.  One of the best things that happened at that tournament was Mastershake going hulk and shredding his shirt after losing another game to decks he should be beating...and then winning out and still placing in the top 16.

I believe MasterShake's loss was to resolved Chalice @ 2, Smokestack, Crucible, but I could be wrong. In fact, I believe he commented after the match that he didn't remember to put Terashi's Grasp in the sideboard against Chalice @ 2, which basically pwns his deck.
