About 55 people came to the final Eudemonia Power Vintage series for a Black Lotus. At least 7 or so travelled with the Dear Mr. Fantasy Caravan from Orange County (600 miles away) and a few San Diegans. Awesome!
Lists and additional coverage can be found at www.Eudemonia.net/p9 now or soon.

Brett Allen wins with UW Grunt Ninja Fish!

I had a round 1 bye due to splitting an earlier Eudemonia tourney with Webster, and I had plenty of time to scout/get a metagame breakdown for you!

The upper right/lower left are the main tables at Eudemonia.  The upper left is the newb corner (Sorry Stew! you are merely Unproven Noob as opposed to Proven Noob as this is just round 1.)  as this is the first time Eudemonia hit 40+ players.

I piloted SlapJack 2K6 (Bomberman with Bob)  to a 4-2 finish at 9th place. Sigh.  Webster face stomped me in a feature match. Dan also trounced me round 3 getting all the good cards flipping land/moxes to Bob while I got all the crappy cards.

Top 8 had 2 new faces and was:
Webster with Staxless Stax
Richard Luna with Pitch Long (Luna Style)
Mohammed Muhktar with UR Goblins!
Brett Allen with UW Grunt Fish
Mark Chalice with Bob TPS/r
Dan Messinio with UWB BobGruntMeddlingMageStifle.de c featuring Hide/Seek tech.
Dante Davalos with Oath
Erik Brown with Oath

Top 8 Matchups:
Erik Pwned Webster

Web is introduced to Erik's Bitches: Razia and Akroma.

Dante (left) got pwned by Luna (right)

Dan Pwned Mohammed

Dan was at 1, had 3 Swords in hand, plus backup Bob. Tense moments, good times. (Dan Swords his own Confidant during upkeep and revealed Brainstorm from Bob trigger. Whoot!  He had probably 50/50 chance of getting land or Mox but a Lotus was on the line.  Gotta play tight.

Brett Pwned Mark

Notice the Speech Bubble Balloons Brett brought for Meddling Mage so there will be no question as to which Mage said What. Awesome!

Top 4
Brett Pwned Erik
Dan Pwned Luna

Finals

Brett (right) Pwned Dan (left) (Dan's hand was shit game two and he just kept topdecking land/moxes. Game 1 was an actual game)

5-8 got 2 each of some sucky dual lands (think Savannah and friends)
3-4 got a Mana Drain each
2 got a Library
1 got a Black Lotus

Congrats Brett!

Random Highlights:

It is not "I" that suck Sir, but you.  I have all the permanents. I won the die roll.  It is I playing Combo Goldfishing against Staxboy who loses "Play or Draw" Die Roll.  Next time, pack Force of Will.

Michael Painter proxies are so un-pimp, that when he says "Your Mom!", he is talking to himself in the mirror.

Victor, sucking.  You can't aggro Goblins.  Goblins R Aggro.  Forests are Scrub (unless backed up by Oath)

WTF?!?
I can't play WHAT? Everything in my hand? An all my shit is tapped??? What does this say: Crucible of Words...read read read.  What is this? Strip Mine Read read read.  What about this? Cap. Read Read. Titan? Wow, 7/10 is pretty big.  Did you really have 8 mana for that thing?
Is it restricted?

These are always the best tournament reports because of the pictures.

Seriously, Type 1 people, BRING YOUR CAMERAS TO EVENTS TO TAKE PICTURES AND THEN POST THEM FOR TOURNAMENT REPORTS.

Great report, as always.

Seriously, best tournament reports because of the pics and I love the humor in the captions also. Grunt Fish wins this one. So is this a sign of things to come where Grunt kicks seriously Vintage booty?

Incidentally, I saw that dude's decklist before the tournament.  It was awesome.  4x Fyndhorn Elves, 4x Fyndhorn Elders. 2x Mana Flare was my favorite.  I'm pretty sure he played Ruby and Channel as his only restricted cards, 0 proxies.

I'll probably write a report soon.  Go Grunts!

Looks like another second place finish for me.  I think that's the 4th vintage tournament that I've lost in the finals.  At least I had fun with a new untested deck and managed to walk away with some cash.  Grats to Brent on his win.  Wish I could have made it more interesting, but the draws just weren't there.  Bob was tired and decided to go into hiding the last round I guess Sad

I'll try to write more about my deck later when I have more time.  I will say though that bob is still good, and hide/seek definately earned it's spot over the day.  As for the grunt, his ability never really came into play as far as graveyard hate'n may opponant.  Most of the time he was stashing cards back into my deck for me, thu the 4/4 body was pretty critical in many matchups.  I'd be interested to here from Brent if his ability came into play for him.

for those interested here is my deck list:

4 dark confidant
4 meddling mage
4 juton grunt
4 brainstorm
4 force of will
4 stifle
4 hide/seek
3 swords to plowshares
2 misdirection
2 ninja of the deep hour
1 timewalk
1 ancestral recall

4 polluted delta
4 flouded strand
3 tundra
2 underground sea
1 volcanic island
1 island
1 swamp
1 plans
1 mox jet
1 mox pearl
1 mox sapphire
1 mox ruby
1 lotus pedal
1 black lotus

sd
4 kataki
3 true believer
2 sword of fire and ice
1 jitte
1 swords to plowshares
4 pithing needle

Unf. LSV still took games 2 and 3 off me. He's such a mize.

Great stuff again Jeff. Next vintage tournament in the area I will bring my digital, and this time, I mean it.

Gifts player #2
3-2 drop.
won against

Slaver, he muliganed both games, land screwed...
*
Gifts, Insteresting plays on his side, need not say more. Gifts is difficult to play.
*
Slaver,
Game 1
I capitalized on a misplayed yawg will.
Game 2
Hit with colossus once, crypt hit him twice, tendrils FTW after getting colossus bounced.
*
Lost against Staxless stax(ochoa) 2-1
Game 1
Him: Shop, Ingot, welder(forced)
Me: Land mox go
Him:  Crucible, Crop rotation, strip, mox, seal of cleansing my mox.
I concede.
Game 2
Him: chalice for 2
Me: mox, vault, island, tinker/colossus,
him: welder(forced)
me: beats.
Game 3,
Him Cap, pass
Me: vamp for b. wish (in hopes to maybe topdeck a hurkyls or rebuild, for a possible tendrils, no luck)
got me under a soft lock.

Lost Against Pitch long
Game 1
I ancestral, he responded with ancestral, then misdirected. Sad
Game 2
I won a counter war, leaving the game in my favor(gifts with enough Marna), 1 card in his hand, then he topdecked wheel of fortune for the win.

don't know if this constitutes a tourney report. But It's all I got.

I wouldn't have coceeded game 1 soo easily if he doesn't have an actual threat on the board, it looks like he had no hand at this point and you had say, 2-3 cards in hand.  Sure, he had crucible Strip lock, but you can still topdeck moxen/bounce and eventually FoW backup.

My mini-report:
Austin flakes on me, so I have SlapJack 2K6 up for grabs. I abandon "The Claw" and make 2K6 10 proxy legal after I get to Eudemonia.

With this sort of rush job, my sideboard only gets so-so. Had I say, 10 minutes to just kinda peruse my T1 playables binder, I might have reminded myself that I like Hide/Seek. It wouldn't have mattered as I faced Stax x3, Storm and Dan's UWB Fish.

Round 1: Bye. I scout, take pictures and smoke

Round 2: Michael Painter with Stax.
Game 1: he gets 5 free time walks with a couple of Tangle Wires and kills me eventually.
Game 2: I pwn him. I don't remember how, but I did. I think I combo game 2.
Game 3: Trinket Beats for the Win! My game plan was to hope he doesn't draw anything but Mana Sources for the next 5 turns.  It works.  He double chumps my Dimir Guildmage with his Welder Twins.

Round 3: Dan with UWB Fish: He gets early Bob, I get stuff, but he counters my TimeTwister pitching FoW to Fow. I think 4 Force, 4 Duress? and 4 Stifle is his only disruption. He later stifles a Trinket Mage CIP ability and I die. He had 2 more Stifles in hand. Deal with Bob or lose.
Game 2: He gets first turn Bob, reveals nothing but land and moxen and I draw nothing until I die.

Round 4: Brian something? Mono Red Stax with Jester's Scepters.
I combo off game 1.
Game 2: I combo off THROUGH CHALICE FOR 1 with my Dimir Guildmage. He takes it well.

Round 5: Feature Match versus Ochoa
Game 1: I think I am cool Forcing his first turn Crop Rotation. He then proceeds to smash my face in. (I had 3 Trinket Mages and 1 Guildmage smashing Face until Karn slows me down, Tinker gets Sundering Titan in on the action and I find out the hard was\y that Trinispheres can block Trinket Mages. D'oh!
Game 2: I go Tundra, Nothing Relevent, Nothing Relevent, go. Ochoa goes first turn Tinker for Sundering Titan to make my Tundra irrelevent, go. I topdeck Aether Spellbomb and play it with my Island. He Vampiric Tutors for Seal of Cleansing and takes out my Spellbomb. As I didn't conceed yet, he found time to activate his Jester's Cap that he already had in play. I scoop after giving him the satisfaction of looking through my deck deciding which 3 cards I really don't need anymore.

I am out of top 8 contention (4 punk ass players were undefeated and decided to draw the last two rounds.)

Round 6: Matt Benjamin Litz Long (w/Duress)
Game 1: I Counter his first three tutors and beat down with Trinket Mages for the win.
Game 2: I side in 3 Meddling Mages and 2 Chalice of the Void. I get first turn Chalice for 0 via Trinket Mage, and then topdeck Chalice #2 for 1. I beat down with Trinket Mage and maybe Bob for a while and Matt just didn't draw anything cool (Unless you consider CRitual/DRitual/Mox/Mox/Will cool. Nothing that said Draw a card.

Props:
Eudemonia for having this series for the 2nd year in a row.  We don't need ALL 9 power pieces up for grabs at once (although that would be pretty cool), but just having a regular series is cool.
Ryan Reynolds and Co.: Judging these things, I am assuming for free.  It is nice having DCI Level 1 (or 2 in your case) Judges on hand to make our scene legit.
10 Proxies: For letting people be able to play with $2 cards like Tinker and $1000 cards like Black Lotus
The SoCal Crew for making it up here.

Slops:
SlapJack 2k6 for doing nothing game 2 round 3 vs Dan. (Dan's deck did just fine. Mine, nothing.

David, I am sorry I touched your spirit tokens, especially without asking. It was thoughtless and rude of me. I only have 24 of those 25 stupid Pro Tour guys and that bugs me on some childish level.

It's not a problem really; I just don't like having my match interrupted by something that can wait until later.

I noticed that a lot of people were interested in the U/R Goblins list and how it plays out. I myself took a chance and picked up the deck 10 hours before the tourney was to start after I decided to not play Pitch Long.

If anyone is interested I can write a small report/article about the deck and the changes that I would now make after I have played the deck.

From what I can tell you right now, the deck has good match-ups against Stax and Combo. Oath is a nightmare in game 1.

On a side note, I lost in top 8 due to a terrible misplay  Sad  As I can remember it, my opponent would have died to Dark Confidant and first tried to Stifle the ability so he would not have to reveal. I, at the point, totally blanked out, decided to hard cast FoW on it instead of the REB in my hand. After that, he used Swords to Plowshares on the Dark Confidant and gained 2 life. Revealed the Card and it was Brainstorm...Lol. O well, lesson learned.

Yea, my friend told me you did, but you also had no other sources for white mana. GGs though, I got pwned by Jotun Grunts.

Just noticed that there is a pic up above of the game state.  Check the pic, I had a lotus pedal left.  I was pretty sure I had 2 white sources.  I was pretty confident as I had nothing in my deck that could kill me except for like 2 forces and 1 SOFI.  and you would have needed 3 counters.  But part of me was still worried. Bob suicide would have sucked.  It was by for though the closest and most exciting round for me as we both made some good plays and some bad.  Momentum swung quite a bit.

Grunts for the win!!

Also I just submitted a pretty detailed deck summary and tournament report.  Hopefully it will get moved to the main fourm for review and comments.

This match was pretty cool to watch, and I did think I got the best pic (gamestate speaking) of the night.

That pic is from the turn that you casted Sword of Fire and Ice and I casted Daze on it to make you pay 1 so you could not equip it that same turn. Swords to Plow Shares turn came 2-3 turns after.

BTW, thank you Jeff for taking time to take pictures and writing the coolest reports EVAAAR!!!!

Wow, that's the first time I've seen someone else use the Pro Tour cards for tokens.  I use em in Oath too, but I also like creating a massive swarm of them using welder and pentivus.

What are those 2 really dark cards of Dante's in the Luna/Dante pic?

And as for unpimp proxies, sometimes its fun to have a totally pimped deck, but then proxy the most god awful proxies, like a peeled foil and the name written in yellow highlighter.

It's Dante on the left and Richard on the right.
Richard Luna uses Guild Signets for Mox Proxies with 90% of the card blacked out by sharpie.  I recently made a set of power using Wayfarer's Baubles, as they have a solid background (green) and a centrally located pic (whatever the Bauble pic is...).

Hmm, that sucks; maybe they'll dig them up.  Here's my U/W fish list... it's a little unpolished, but apparently good enough for a Lotus!

4 Force of Will
4 Brainstorm
3 Stifle
3 Daze
3 Swords to Plowshares
1 Echoing Truth
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
4 Meddling Mage
3 Ninja of the Deep Hours
3 Jotun Grunt
2 Stormscape Apprentice
1 Isamaru, Hound of Konda
1 Kataki, War's Wage
3 Null Rod
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Pearl
1 Black Lotus
4 Tundra
4 Flooded Strand
1 Polluted Delta
1 Windswept Heath
3 Island
1 Snow-Covered Plains
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine

SB:
2 Blue Elemental Blast
1 Hydroblast
2 Energy Flux
1 Repeal
2 Seal of Cleansing
2 Orim's Chant
1 Rule of Law
1 Exalted Angel
3 Umezawa's Jitte

The list is mainly based on doomhed's recent T8.  Mad props to him and Dxfiler for their awesome reports in this forum!  I hope to have a report of my own up soon.

If it wasn't clear in the original post, more Feature Match Coverage, and PICS can be found at www.Eudemonia.net/p9.
Eudemonia only sucks at posting Decklists (3 times this year), but were 100% competent last year (This is 2nd P9 series they held.  55 players for lotus! 30x55=1500 minus 5-7 round 1 bye/free entry.  Pretty cool.

Thanks for posting your decklist and do post a report! Congrats!

Here's the list I used this time:

4 chalice of the void
3 crucible of worlds
3 smokestack
3 sphere of resistance
2 triskelion
1 karn, silver golem
1 platinum angel
1 sundering titan
1 trinisphere

4 goblin welder
2 seal of cleansing
1 ancestral recall
1 crop rotation
1 demonic tutor
1 gorilla shaman
1 in the eye of chaos
1 tinker
1 vampiric tutor

2 darksteel ingot
1 black lotus
1 mana crypt
1 mana vault
1 mox emerald
1 mox jet
1 mox pearl
1 mox ruby
1 mox sapphire
1 sol ring

1 bazaar of baghdad
1 strip mine
1 tolarian academy
4 city of brass
4 mishra's workshop
3 gemstone mine
3 wasteland

SB:
4 tangle wire
2 tormod's crypt
1 ensnaring bridge
1 jester's cap
2 viashino heretic
1 balance
1 fastbond
1 ghostly prison
1 rule of law
1 seal of cleansing

[sarcasm]I'd like to note that I'll never have chalice maindeck anymore; they will be replaced by tangle wire because I never win the die roll and wire is much better than chalice on the draw. [/end sarcasm]

I wasn't expecting much aggro so I put the wires and balance in the sb. I wanted to try ghostly prison. It seemed like it would be good with tangle wire because they can't attack you very well. I never played against aggro though so I have no idea if the card is just complete garbage.

Fastbond in the sb was for the mirror and against other various matchups where you get a land striped every turn (worse than gat). Being able to break the symmetry of lands played per turn seemed good. Again, I didn't play against either of those matchups so I don't know if it's just a wasted sb slot.

I had decided to gun for the mirror and ritual-based decks for this tournament. The latter matchup being the reason why spheres were main. I decided to put in smokestacks because I felt at the time that if I were to have an accompanying lock component, smokestack would be better than tangle wire. I could have run 4 smokestack but I felt that having two trike or one trike and one duplicant would be better.

I'm not going to bother writing a tournament report because my brain is fried from too much magic from that weekend and I honestly don't remember much of what happened right after it did let alone 3 days afterwards.

The decklist seemed cramped when I was writing it down. I had to cut some of the 1-of's that I had run in previous tournaments to make room for the seals and the 6 slots for sphere/stack.

Unfortunately the Eudemonia series is over now and northern CA is lacking a t1 scene because of it. It was fun to reap the rewards of the series and I can say with certainty that I'll do it again next year. Hopefully everyone in the area doesn't have to wait until next February for more power tournaments.

Damn, so bummed I had to miss out...but family matters and life must come before a game..

Grats to brett for the win...grunts do seem to pwn face...I had shop aggro grunts (somewhat similar to probascos list minus confidants) all lined up to go, guess they will sit on the shelf collecting dust for a while until the next tourney I can actually make.

Great turnout (although that wasnt the first over 40 Jeff...and you should know better) but very glad to see it zoom over 50 players.

But I am sure we will see a few more power events before next years series david (assuming there will be another) Tony and I along with Banks and maybe some others are in the early stages of getting a Mox tourney together and I am sure Victor will try to swing a few more small events (with good prizes!!!) in the coming months. Rumor has it a number of shops are thinking about some T1 action as well, I know Jeff from Whos on First told me that he was thinking about a tourney again, and a few shops in Sacramento have mentioned the idea...so maybe pushing a few more buttons will get the ball rolling...the best way to set things in motion is to talk/mention/push/do things yourself, heh.

But keep on the lookout...even with things winding down a bit, we will try to get things up on the norcal boards when we know more (http://norcalmagic.proboards79.com)

I have a couple moxen I can put up for small tournaments if someone would like to organize them. I am not looking to make any money, just get close to ebay value and a nice afternoon of Magic.
